The system adds assisted-driving features; the available information does not establish that the Seagull can drive itself without an attentive driver.
What BYD added to the Seagull
The development is the China-market 2026 Seagull, launched on May 11, 2026. An earlier filing report in January showed an updated Seagull with optional roof-mounted LiDAR; the launch confirmed that LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B assistance would be offered on selected versions. CnEVPost reported the filing on January 9, 2026, followed by its launch report on May 11, 2026.
This sits within BYD’s broader DiPilot intelligent-driving assistance family, introduced in February 2025 in three configurations—DiPilot 600, 300 and 100—with different sensor arrangements. BYD lists capabilities including highway navigation assistance, lane keeping and changes, obstacle avoidance, automated parking and route-based navigation. Those are the company’s system descriptions, not independent proof of performance. BYD’s February 10, 2025 announcement called its goal making “high-level intelligent driving assistance” accessible to more consumers.
How much does the LiDAR Seagull cost?
CnEVPost reported a China-market guide-price range of 69,900 to 85,900 yuan for the 2026 Seagull lineup. The LiDAR-equipped God’s Eye B option is not available on the entry trim; it is offered on the 305-km Freedom Edition and 405-km Flying Edition.

The range figures are those reported at launch; the report does not state a test-cycle qualification beside them. The model’s reported maximum motor power is 55 kW. The Seagull’s 2025 sales—529,537 units, according to figures compiled from company reports and cited by CnEVPost—are model sales, not a tally of LiDAR-equipped cars or assistance-system adoption. What the driver-assistance system is claimed to do
BYD says the Seagull’s city navigation assistance can handle functions such as traffic-light recognition, roundabouts and detours. That describes assistance during a drive, not a demonstrated ability to complete a trip without human supervision. Neither BYD’s descriptions nor the launch report establishes that the vehicle is driverless or that an attentive driver can stop monitoring the road.

Feature descriptions and actual performance are different questions. The available reporting does not provide independent road-test validation of the Seagull’s LiDAR system, so buyers should treat the functions as manufacturer claims and consult the vehicle’s instructions and local rules before relying on them.
Is the $10,000 BYD Seagull sold outside China?
The roughly US$10,290 figure is CnEVPost’s conversion of the 69,900-yuan China-market entry price, not a US manufacturer’s suggested retail price. The launch details cited here establish China pricing and trim availability; they do not establish US availability or the price, name, equipment or launch timing of an export-market equivalent.

A separate BYD coverage announcement
On May 28, 2026, BYD said a one-year “Full Damage Coverage” guarantee would apply to new buyers and existing owners upgrading to God’s Eye – BYD Intelligent Driving System 5.0 in China. BYD described conditions tied to a legally liable accident during compliant Urban NOA use. This is a company policy pledge with stated conditions, not evidence that every Seagull purchase receives general insurance coverage. BYD’s announcement sets out the policy terms.
