Yes. BYD’s China-market Su Rui sedan, launched in August 2012, had a dedicated remote that let a person outside the car start it and move it slowly forward or backward while steering left or right. BYD presented the system as a parking aid—not autonomous driving.
What the Su Rui remote could do
BYD described the Su Rui’s “Remote Driving Control” as a key-operated feature. From outside the vehicle, the operator could start the car, direct it forward or backward, and steer left or right at restricted speed. BYD had shown the technology in April 2012 on a car called the F3 Plus before using the Su Rui name for the China-market launch. BYD’s August 2012 launch announcement and its market-launch account describe the feature.
Why BYD said it was useful
BYD said remote control could help in a narrow parking space where the driver might struggle to open the door and get out after parking. The company also cited moving the car toward its owner in bad weather. Its launch account mentioned remote motor start with air conditioning to warm or cool the cabin. These were manufacturer-stated use cases, not independently demonstrated performance findings.
Reported range, speed and availability
A contemporary Autohome report published August 21, 2012 said the feature was fitted to three 1.5 TID versions of the Su Rui. It reported an operating range of about 10 meters with line of sight, and a maximum remote-driving speed of 2 km/h, citing dealer information for the speed figure. BYD’s launch releases do not state these limits, so they should be treated as specifications reported at the time—not assumed to apply to every Su Rui year or configuration.

Remote driving is not self-driving
The described system required a person to control the vehicle with a dedicated remote while outside it. The available descriptions support calling it remote driving or a low-speed parking aid; they do not establish unsupervised autonomous operation or the ability to drive on public roads at normal speeds.

Su Rui was BYD’s name for the Chinese-market sedan announced for launch on August 21, 2012. BYD described it as a family or midsize saloon with remote driving control. The feature should therefore be understood as equipment in a particular China-market model and period, rather than a general capability of BYD cars.
