In the latest monthly figures covered here, BYD ranked fourth overall in August 2026. Those positions use different periods and should not be treated as interchangeable.

The 2025 result answers whether BYD was among Brazil’s top 10 brands for a completed year: it was. The August 2026 figure is a monthly snapshot, not a full-year ranking. The year-end industry context is also available in Fenabrave’s December 2025 registration bulletin.
What the rankings measure
Overall market: retail plus direct sales
BYD’s August report says its fourth-place overall ranking includes retail and direct sales. “Registrations” is the more precise description of the reported count: it refers to vehicle registrations, rather than every possible measure of sales activity.
Retail: sales through dealerships to individual buyers
The retail result is narrower. BYD defines retail ranking as sales to individual buyers at dealerships; it is not the same as total registrations across retail and direct channels. BYD’s explanation of the retail measure describes that distinction. Calling BYD Brazil’s top-selling automaker without naming the retail-only scope would overstate what this ranking shows.

Annual and monthly figures are not like-for-like
The 2025 seventh-place result covers non-commercial light vehicles over a full calendar year. The fourth-place result covers one month in 2026 and is described as an overall-market ranking. A sound comparison needs the same period, vehicle scope, sales channel, and measure; monthly positions can change and do not establish an annual outcome.
The Dolphin Mini’s place in the August result
BYD’s August report says the Dolphin Mini recorded 8,299 registrations and ranked fourth among all models that month. That model result is distinct from BYD’s brand-level fourth-place overall ranking: one compares individual models, the other compares brands. The figures identify a model associated with BYD’s market position, but do not by themselves explain the reasons for that position.

What registration rankings can—and cannot—tell you
Registrations and market share show how a brand placed by the reported market measures. They do not, on their own, establish vehicle quality, customer satisfaction, profitability, or long-term durability. Fenabrave’s year-end bulletin provides independent industry registration context; the cited monthly ranking and figures above come from BYD Brasil’s company-authored report.
BYD executive Alexandre Baldy characterized the August result as progress toward the company’s target of entering Brazil’s overall-market top three by 2028, saying it arrived two years ahead of the company’s plan. That is the executive’s account of BYD’s target and progress, not an independent assessment of future rankings.
