Rather than using a conventional fixed saddle, it splits the seating area into two independently moving sections that pivot around a virtual axis aligned with the rider’s hips.
The idea is to reduce pressure on the sit bones and sensitive soft tissue by allowing each side of the seat to follow the corresponding leg. It is an interesting piece of cycling hardware, but buyers should know that it remains a crowdfunded pre-order—not a universally compatible, lightweight replacement saddle.

How the vabsRider moves
The vabsRider is not a normal saddle mounted on a suspension seat post. Its two seat halves use a curved track and bearing mechanism, allowing them to move independently as the rider pedals.
ataraxyBSC describes the motion as rotation around a “virtual axis” across the rider’s pelvis. In practical terms, the left and right sections move with the rider’s lower-body motion instead of forcing the pelvis to remain on one stationary platform. The seat does not simply rise and fall on every pedal stroke, as a suspension post would.

The company’s stated goal is to move some of the load away from the sit bones and soft-tissue areas and toward the femurs. That could make the design appealing to commuters, recreational cyclists, and riders who struggle with pressure from conventional saddles.
Does it really reduce saddle pressure?
ataraxyBSC reports a 75%–80% reduction in measured saddle pressure compared with a traditional saddle. That headline number needs context.
The company’s published pressure-mapping test used one recreational male cyclist, a commuter-style bicycle, a pressure-sensitive mat, and two saddle comparisons. Testing took place on September 6, 2024. Because of the size of the pressure mat, the company tested one vabsRider seat half at a time.
That makes the result a useful early comparison, not proof that every rider will experience an 80% reduction in pain, numbness, or injury risk. Rider position, bike fit, flexibility, clothing, pedaling style, and anatomy can all change the result. The company itself notes that individual outcomes may differ.

For a broader assessment, independent testing would need to compare multiple riders, longer rides, different body types, and objective pressure data alongside reported comfort.

At 5 lb, the vabsRider is heavy compared with performance-oriented bicycle saddles. The first-generation design prioritizes strength, safety, and durability rather than racing weight. That is less important on a commuter or utility bike, but it is a significant trade-off for anyone replacing a lightweight road or gravel saddle.
Check compatibility before ordering
The vabsRider does not fit every bicycle. Before ordering, work through these checks:
- Measure the existing seat post. The bike must accept a 270-mm post in one of the listed diameters: 27.2, 30.9, or 31.6 mm.
- Check the seat-post markings. If the diameter is not visible, remove the post or have a bike shop confirm the measurement.
- Confirm the bike uses a conventional seat-post arrangement. The current model is not designed for every proprietary frame or seat-mount system.
- Check the post type. The vabsRider is incompatible with dropper posts and suspension seat posts.
- Check the rider weight. The suggested maximum is 100 kg / 220 lb.
- Choose the pad spacing. The standard gap is 50 mm; the supplied spacer expands it to 70 mm.
Most exercise bikes are also unlikely to accept it because they use a different seat-mounting system. A tailored adapter may be possible for a particular exercise-bike design, but the company says its custom seat post cannot be modified.

Security and everyday use
There is no dedicated anti-theft device included. The company says a conventional cable lock can be looped through the rails and the bicycle frame. That may be adequate for a quick stop, but the unusual seat assembly and exposed hardware could make replacement more complicated than replacing a standard saddle.
The design is more naturally suited to a commuter, upright city bike, or recreational bicycle than a weight-conscious race bike. Its size, mechanism, and 2.3-kg weight should be considered alongside the comfort claims.
Availability and pre-order risks
As of August 9, 2026, the vabsRider is being sold through Kickstarter and BackerKit as a crowdfunded pre-order. It is not an ordinary in-stock retail saddle with guaranteed immediate delivery.
