Neither is objectively better: the Bugatti Tourbillon wins as a feat of vehicle engineering, while Jacob & Co.’s Bugatti Tourbillon watch wins as a miniature mechanical spectacle. They share a design concept, not a function—the watch’s sapphire V16 automaton is a display mechanism, not a working car engine.
What are we comparing?
The Bugatti Tourbillon is a hybrid hyper sports car designed to propel itself on the road. The Jacob & Co. Bugatti Tourbillon is a mechanical wristwatch that keeps time and stages an animated V16-inspired display. Comparing their raw specifications as if they performed the same job would miss the point.
Bugatti describes the watch as a collaboration with Jacob & Co., with its automaton inspired by the Tourbillon’s V16 architecture. That connection makes the watch a striking tribute, but not a functional scale replica of the car’s engine. Bugatti’s collaboration announcement explains the shared concept.
Where the car makes its case
A V16 at the center of a hybrid system
The Tourbillon combines an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16, developed with Cosworth’s help, with three electric motors: two on the front e-axle and one at the rear. Bugatti announced 1,000 hp from the combustion engine and 800 hp from the electric motors, for a claimed system output of 1,800 hp. The V16 configuration and displacement also appear on Bugatti’s technical sheet, marked June 2024.

Ambition is not the same as a tested result
Those output figures are Bugatti’s manufacturer claims, not independent test results. The launch announcement said prototypes were entering testing; the official sources cited here do not provide an independent comparative test statistic or establish independently tested road capability.
At the June 2024 launch, Bugatti announced plans for 250 cars, a net starting price of €3.8 million, and anticipated customer deliveries in 2026. Those were plans and expectations stated at launch, not confirmation that deliveries have taken place. Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac described the ambition behind the car this way: “So yes, it is crazy to build a new V16 engine, to integrate with a new battery pack and electric motors and to have a real Swiss-made watchmaker instrument cluster and 3D-printed suspension parts and a Crystal Glass center console. But it is what Ettore would have done, and it is what makes a Bugatti incomparable and timeless.” That is a statement of design intent, not independent proof of superiority. Where the watch makes its case
A complex movement and animated display
Jacob & Co.’s product page specifies a JCAM55 hand-wound movement with 557 components, an approximately 80-hour power reserve, and a 30-second flying tourbillon. Its sapphire V16 engine-block automaton supplies the visual link to the car, while the watch’s jumping-hour display adds another mechanical feature. The automaton is an animated watch complication, not a powertrain.
Edition and regional price
Jacob & Co. lists the standard model as a 150-piece edition. Its Japan-market product page displayed a suggested retail price of ¥67,881,000 including tax when accessed in 2026; that is a regional, page-specific figure and may change. See Jacob & Co. Japan’s product specifications.

If “better” means engineering a road-going hybrid around an extraordinary combustion engine, the car is the answer. If it means packing mechanical complexity and theatrical motion into a watch, Jacob & Co. has the stronger claim. The verdict depends on the achievement you value—not on a direct performance contest between a car and a timepiece.
