Bugatti’s La Perle Rare is a one-off, customer-commissioned W16 Mistral, distinguished by a bespoke gold-and-white paint scheme rather than a standard trim or factory color option. The design pairs a warm, gold-infused upper body with warm white below, divided by carefully painted lines. Bugatti says the commission’s exterior involved weeks of paintwork and hundreds of hours of craftsmanship.
How the La Perle Rare commission began
Bugatti says the project began in August 2023, when its Manager of Sur Mesure and Individualization, Jascha Straub, met the client at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Straub developed a two-tone composition inspired by Bugatti’s hand-painted “Vagues de Lumière” finish and the way light moves across a car’s surfaces. The separation between the upper and lower body was intended to evoke the contrast between sky and ground. Bugatti’s La Perle Rare account describes the commission and its design process.
How Bugatti developed the gold-and-white paint
The color exploration began with a silver concept before shifting toward different whites, including warmer and cooler tones with metallic flakes. Bugatti says the final palette consists of two new bespoke colors: a warm, gold-infused hue across the upper surfaces and a refined warm white on the lower body.
The boundary between those colors is a defining feature, not a simple graphic added at the end. Bugatti describes hand-applied taping and masking, followed by weeks of careful painting under the design team’s supervision. Its account says the exterior required hundreds of hours of craftwork, without giving a more precise total.

Where the theme continues beyond the bodywork
The bespoke treatment extends to the diamond-cut alloy wheels, which Bugatti says received a specially curated paint mixture echoing the body’s gold and white. In the cabin, white-painted carbon components and coordinated door-panel materials carry the same jewel-like theme. These details describe this individual commission; they should not be read as standard equipment on every W16 Mistral.

Bugatti’s August 19, 2022 launch release described the W16 Mistral as an open-top roadster powered by the 1,600 PS version of its W16 engine, with design inspiration from the 1934 Type 57 Roadster Grand Raid. That release announced a planned run of 99 cars at €5 million net each and said the run was already sold out at the time. Those are historical launch figures, not current resale pricing or evidence of La Perle Rare’s individual price. Bugatti’s 2022 launch release provides that model context.

Bugatti’s W16 Mistral model page, last updated July 18, 2025, lists combined WLTP fuel consumption of 21.8 l/100 km and combined CO₂ emissions of 495 g/km. These are model-level figures, not results from a La Perle Rare-specific test. Bugatti’s model page gives the figures.
Production status has since moved beyond the original announcement: in a release dated July 16, 2026, Bugatti said a newly completed W16 Mistral marked the end of production. Bugatti’s end-of-production announcement is the later update on the model’s production.
