Bugatti rates its quad-turbo W16 at 1,600 PS; automotive outlets commonly render that as 1,578 hp or bhp. Named for Ettore Bugatti’s favored horse, the car pairs bespoke bodywork and a highly tailored cabin with Bugatti’s existing mechanical platform.
How much horsepower does the Bugatti Brouillard have?
Bugatti specifies the quad-turbo W16 at 1,600 PS. Top Gear reports 1,578 bhp, while Car and Driver gives 1,578 hp. These are different unit presentations of the stated output, not evidence of separate engine versions. Bugatti’s August 2025 announcement and its August 2025 debut report use PS; the imperial-unit figures appear in Top Gear and Car and Driver.
The announced specification also describes the latest corresponding carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis. The cited coverage does not establish a confirmed torque figure, acceleration time, top speed, price, or independent performance-test result, so figures from related Bugatti models should not be treated as Brouillard specifications.
What is Programme Solitaire?
Programme Solitaire is Bugatti’s coachbuilding-inspired bespoke commission program, announced as an expansion beyond its Sur Mesure personalization offering. Rather than starting with a new powertrain and chassis, Solitaire commissions use existing Bugatti mechanical foundations and concentrate on individually tailored bodywork and interior details. Bugatti said at launch that it would produce no more than two Solitaire creations per year; that is the program’s announced annual limit, not a production run for Brouillard.

Brouillard is the inaugural commission, not a trim or a generally available model. Bugatti announced the car on 7 August 2025 and gave it a physical global debut at The Quail on 15 August 2025.
Why is it called Brouillard?
The name comes from Ettore Bugatti’s favored horse. According to Bugatti, Brouillard was known for opening his stable door using a mechanism Ettore had designed. The horse is more than a name: the car’s sculptural, muscular forms and equine cabin details translate that story into the design.

Bugatti’s design director Frank Heyl described the approach as “It’s heavily focused on sculptural surfaces and organic shapes, as the vision of a tendon underneath the skin.” The marque says the flowing, reflection-rich surfaces are intended to evoke the musculature of a trained horse, while functional elements—including cooling intakes, a fixed ducktail wing for aerodynamic balance, and a rear diffuser packaged around the exhaust—are integrated into the shape.
What makes the exterior and interior bespoke?
Exterior details
Bugatti lists a glass roof and green-tinted carbon fiber among the car’s defining materials. Its bodywork is shaped specifically for this commission, with the ducktail and diffuser incorporated into the overall design rather than presented as add-on styling pieces. Heyl summarized the craft challenge this way: “To make something look simple is actually incredibly complex.”

Cabin details
The cabin combines machined aluminum with custom-woven tartan fabrics sourced from Paris. Horse motifs are embroidered on the door panels and seat backs, and the seats are shaped for the owner. The gear selector is machined from a single block of aluminum; its glass insert contains a hand-crafted miniature horse sculpture.
How does Brouillard connect to Bugatti’s coachbuilding history?
Bugatti frames Solitaire as a revival of the early twentieth-century coachbuilding tradition, when specialist body makers and automotive companies collaborated on bodies. Its historical reference is Jean Bugatti’s in-house work on the Type 57 chassis, including the Galibier, Stelvio, Ventoux, and Atalante. Brouillard draws on that lineage as a modern bespoke commission; it is not a restored or re-bodied Type 57.

Hendrik Malinowski, Bugatti’s managing director, described the program’s intent at its launch: “The Programme Solitaire allows us to authentically explore the unique visions of our clients, giving us more flexibility to explore different interpretations of long-established Bugatti design elements.”

Yes. In a report dated 15 September 2026, Bugatti said Brouillard had been handed over to its commissioning owner at Chantilly Arts & Elegance. The car appeared in the Concours d’Élégance Concept Class and won “Best of Show Concept-cars, restomods & one-offs.” In the same report, Bugatti stated that type approval had not yet been granted at that time; that is the status reported on 15 September 2026, not a broader statement about its status at any later date. Bugatti’s handover and event report also quotes Malinowski: “Programme Solitaire is founded upon the beautiful principle that creating a Bugatti carries a story, a legacy and an emotional connection unlike any other.”

How many Bugatti Brouillard cars were made?
One: Brouillard is a one-off commission and the first Programme Solitaire creation. Bugatti reported its handover to its owner in September 2026, so it should not be described as a model available for ordinary purchase.
