Wanneroo Raceway hosted its 100th Australian Touring Car Championship/Supercars championship race in 2025, becoming the first Australian circuit to reach that mark. The milestone did not bring Brodie Kostecki a home-track victory: he went into the separate 2026 Perth Super 440 still seeking his first win at Wanneroo, and left without one.
What Wanneroo’s 100th-race milestone meant
The milestone behind PerthNow’s June 2025 headline was the 100th championship race held at Wanneroo—not the championship’s 100th anniversary. The venue’s first event was in 1973. Supercars describes Wanneroo as the first circuit in ATCC/Supercars history to host 100 races.
The 2.4 km circuit runs clockwise. Supercars’ venue profile characterises it as difficult for drivers and engineers, with passing generally concentrated in the braking zones at Turns 6 and 7. Ahead of the 2026 round, Kostecki also described the layout as technical and unusually dependent on car setup.
Why Kostecki’s home-track record drew attention
Kostecki’s connection to the event is local: PerthNow’s 2025 preview identified him as a boy from Ballajura, and subsequent coverage has continued to describe him as a West Australian or hometown favourite. But his home-track record had not yet delivered a win when he returned in 2026.

- In 2022, he finished eighth and sixth.
- In 2023, he scored three podiums but did not win.
- In 2024, he recorded a 22nd place and a DNF.
- On his next visit, he finished fifth and seventh before placing 11th in a race affected by a track-limits penalty.
Those results are from Supercars’ preview published before the 2026 event. The series also noted that only three of Wanneroo’s first 100 races had been won by a West Australian; all three were Garth Tander victories in 2007.
What Kostecki said before the 2026 Perth round
After winning at Townsville, Kostecki told Supercars he had “never won on home soil” and said a Perth victory “would be really nice.” He also cautioned that Wanneroo was “a really odd place,” requiring “a different car to make speed around there.”

Kostecki’s weekend was disrupted early. Supercars reported that a collision with Kai Allen in the opening race left Kostecki beached at Turn 1. PerthNow later reported that fuel-rig trouble compromised his Sunday finale.
Matt Payne won the opening race and the Sunday finale, while Broc Feeney took the other race win. Kostecki did not win the round, so the home-soil victory he had hoped for remained elusive.

Attendance and the event’s wider significance
PerthNow reported 40,213 attendees across the 2026 event. The newspaper described that total as 15% higher than in 2025 and the event’s largest crowd since 2016. Those attendance figures and comparisons are attributed to PerthNow’s report.
Together, the two rounds mark distinct chapters in Wanneroo’s story: the 2025 race that made it the first ATCC/Supercars circuit to reach 100 championship races, and the 2026 home event in which Kostecki’s search for a first Wanneroo win continued.
