BRABUS has unveiled two open-top conversions of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 (W 465): the 800 Cabrio and the off-road-focused XL 800 Cabrio. Both are rated by BRABUS at 800 hp and 1,000 Nm, but the XL trades some of the standard car’s published acceleration and top speed for its distinct off-road positioning. Its design pairs high-gloss carbon-fiber details with a bespoke soft-top conversion that BRABUS says uses more than 500 custom-made components.
What is the BRABUS XL 800 Cabrio?
The XL 800 Cabrio is a BRABUS conversion based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 (W 465), not a separate factory Mercedes-Benz G-Class body style. BRABUS announced it on 24 November 2025 alongside the standard 800 Cabrio. The XL is presented as the more off-road-oriented of the two open-top models; the debut example was finished in Pale Brown and is listed at 210 cm (82.6 in) wide. BRABUS labels it “OFF-ROAD COUTURE,” a description that reflects the company’s positioning rather than an independent assessment.
BRABUS says converting the closed G 63 to a soft-top Cabrio required a complex system of more than 500 custom-made components. The company also says high-strength steel is used to achieve torsional rigidity at the level of the closed G 63. These are manufacturer descriptions of the conversion, not independent structural test results. BRABUS XL 800 Cabrio debut announcement

BRABUS specifies a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 equipped with two BRABUS-developed turbochargers. The engine is rated at 588 kW (800 hp) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft), with power delivered through a SPEEDSHIFT TCT nine-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels.

The soft-top conversion is a major part of the project: BRABUS describes more than 500 custom-made components and a high-strength-steel structure intended to maintain torsional rigidity comparable to the closed G 63. The debut materials also describe a carbon-fiber roof bow in the front roof segment and a body-integrated C-BOW steel roll bar with exposed-carbon finish for the standard 800 Cabrio. Those specific roof details are not attributed here to the XL, for which the cited XL materials do not confirm them.
