The M10, 555 hp and “Progressive Activity Sedan” point to three different chapters of BMW history—not one future model. BMW’s New Class began with the 1500 in 1961; the 555-hp figure belongs to a 2011 X6 M; and the sedan phrase is a reported development label associated with the 5 Series Gran Turismo project. BMW’s current future-facing program is Neue Klasse, now in production with the iX3.
What is the BMW M10 engine?
The M10 is associated with the four-cylinder engine used in BMW’s New Class era, but BMW’s historical account of the 1500 does not identify that engine by the M10 designation. It describes the 1500 as a mid-size, sporty four-door with an overhead-cam inline-four. BMW says the car was rated at 80 hp and had a reported top speed of 93 mph. The company places the New Class’s beginning with the 1500 in 1961 and identifies later 1800, 1600, 2000 and 2000tii models in the line. BMW’s New Class history
That source supports the New Class context and the 1500’s basic specifications, but not a detailed account of the M10’s development or engineering. Those details should not be inferred from the history page alone.
Which BMW had 555 hp?
The 555-hp figure belongs to the BMW X6 M—not a 5 Series or a current BMW model. In November 2011 media information, BMW specified the X6 M’s 4,395 cc engine at 408 kW/555 hp at 6,000 rpm. It is a dated factory specification for that X6 M. It should not be treated as a current output figure or as evidence that the other concepts in this article shared its powertrain.
What was the BMW Progressive Activity Sedan?
“Progressive Activity Sedan” is a reported development label associated with the project that became the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. BMW’s 2009 press kit does not use PAS as the formal model name. The product concept emphasized passenger room and a variable cargo area alongside comfort and performance. That combination distinguishes the GT project from a conventional sedan, but the available BMW press-kit wording does not establish “Progressive Activity Sedan” as an official model name.
How does BMW’s current future direction differ?
BMW’s Neue Klasse is a model-generation program, not another name for the M10, the X6 M’s 555-hp specification or the 5 Series Gran Turismo project. BMW says the series-production iX3 debuted in September 2025 as the first Neue Klasse model, with the i3 due to follow in 2026. In its 2024 overview, BMW described the initial high-volume lineup as a Sports Activity Vehicle and a sedan in the current 3 Series segment. It also said at least six models were planned to begin launching within the first 24 months of production. Where future BMW M vehicles fit
BMW M’s June 2026 article presents the M Concept Neue Klasse as a preview of future electric M design and technology. BMW USA says the concept itself is not for sale and that the first M vehicles featuring Neue Klasse technology are planned for 2027. That announced M step is distinct from the iX3’s production debut. The useful connection is historical rather than mechanical: each reference reflects a different way BMW explored its identity—through the New Class, an M performance SUV-coupé and a sedan/GT/SAV blend. Neue Klasse is a separate current strategy focused on a new model generation and electrification; the available sources do not establish a direct engineering lineage from the 5 Series Gran Turismo to Neue Klasse vehicles.
