Wat betekent BMW’s plan van 20% precies?
BMW Group kondigde de plannen aan tijdens zijn Capital Market Day op 30 september 2026. Het bedrijf wil tegen medio 2027 het aantal divisies en de bijbehorende managementfuncties met 20% verminderen. Daarnaast verwacht BMW een vergelijkbare vermindering op lagere organisatieniveaus.

Het percentage slaat dus niet op het totale personeelsbestand. BMW noemt in de aankondiging geen absoluut aantal functies, geen uitsplitsing naar vrijwillig vertrek en geen verdeling per land. Het personeelsprogramma maakt volgens het bedrijf deel uit van een in juli met de ondernemingsraad afgesproken structuurprogramma, met daarnaast een vrijwillige vertrekregeling en eenvoudiger processen. Waar wil BMW efficiënter worden?
De personeels- en managementaanpassingen zijn onderdeel van een bredere aanpak om de concurrentiepositie en winstgevendheid te versterken. BMW noemt verschillende ingrepen, maar publiceert geen afzonderlijke eurobesparingen waarmee hun financiële opbrengst onderling te vergelijken is.

Structuur en processen
Minder divisies en managementfuncties moeten samengaan met vereenvoudigde processen en snellere besluitvorming. BMW zegt dat het programma ook lagere organisatieniveaus raakt; het maakt niet bekend hoeveel functies dat concreet betreft.
AI en automatisering
BMW wil AI inzetten in onder meer ontwikkeling, inkoop, productie, verkoop en marketing, en aftersales. Voor voertuigontwikkeling noemt het bedrijf AI-agenten die kunnen helpen bij technische eisen, testen en vrijgave, grote hoeveelheden informatie sneller analyseren en routinetaken automatiseren. Dit zijn beoogde toepassingen: BMW koppelt er in de aankondiging geen gerealiseerde besparing of meetbaar resultaat aan.

Producten, productie en waardeketen
Ook wil BMW de productportfolio gerichter maken, modellen en productie sterker per regio organiseren en de efficiëntie door de hele waardeketen verbeteren. De aankondiging specificeert niet welke modellen, fabrieken of leveranciers hierdoor veranderen, noch wat de financiële opbrengst per maatregel zou zijn.
De winstdoelen zijn ambities, geen gerealiseerde besparingen
BMW noemt voor de Automotive-segmentmarge een doel van 3–5% voor 2028 en een doel van 8–10% aan het begin van het volgende decennium. Het gaat om toekomstige bedrijfsdoelen, niet om marges die al zijn behaald of om garanties dat de nieuwe maatregelen ze zullen opleveren. BMW Group PressClub Global

In een eerdere aanpassing van zijn prognose voor 2026 zei BMW dat het kostenbesparingen zou intensiveren en dat de effecten in de komende jaren zichtbaar moesten worden. Het bedrijf voorzag daarbij ook een eenmalige negatieve invloed op de winst in de tweede helft van 2026. De officiële aankondiging maakt niet duidelijk of de plannen gevolgen hebben voor consumenten. BMW kwantificeert geen effecten op autoprijzen, functies of uitrusting, service of levertijden. Daardoor is de belofte uit de titel — kosten besparen zonder dat bestuurders het merken — op basis van deze informatie niet te bevestigen.

BMW-bestuursvoorzitter Milan Nedeljković omschreef het doel als volgt: “Tegelijkertijd verbeteren we onze structuren en kostenbasis om het hoofd te kunnen bieden aan de steeds hevigere concurrentie die deze sector de komende jaren zal kenmerken.” De uitspraak verwoordt de inzet van BMW, maar zegt niet wat klanten uiteindelijk zullen merken.
