BMW Motorrad unveiled the Concept RR on 23 May 2025 as a “preview of the next generation of BMW RR superbikes.” It signals the direction BMW may take its RR line, but the announcement does not confirm a sixth-generation S 1000 RR or M 1000 RR, a production date, or a final production specification.
What BMW revealed
BMW introduced the Concept RR at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este as a racing-to-road technology and design statement. BMW says the concept is based on the water-cooled inline-four engine used by its FIM Superbike World Championship machine. The company says that engine delivers more than 230 hp (169 kW). The company also says the concept uses electronic systems from the WSBK M 1000 RR, including engine management, traction control, and engine braking. Is the Concept RR going into production?
BMW has called it a preview of a future generation, but its announcement does not say which retail model will inherit the concept’s design or components. It provides no production date, final model name, price, final specification, or market-by-market launch information. The reveal therefore supports describing the Concept RR as a signal of BMW’s future RR direction—not as a confirmed production motorcycle.
BMW’s wording does not establish that the concept is specifically a sixth-generation S 1000 RR or M 1000 RR. Those names may be used as reader shorthand or as an inference about the future, but BMW has not confirmed either designation in the cited announcement.

How it differs from the production S 1000 RR
The Concept RR and the S 1000 RR product page describe different things: a concept preview and a production motorcycle. BMW’s global archive lists the Concept RR announcement from May 2025 separately from an October 2024 press kit for the S 1000 RR and M 1000 RR. That distinction matters because specifications or equipment listed for a production model should not be assigned to the concept—or assumed to carry over to a future bike. BMW Group archive

The available information does not support declaring either bike faster or better on track. The concept’s styling, BMW’s engineering aims, and the WSBK-derived engine basis are not substitutes for comparable independent road or track testing.
How BMW frames racing technology for road bikes
BMW presents the Concept RR as an example of knowledge moving from professional racing—especially WSBK—into series development. In a BMW interview, lead designer Matthias Kottman describes that as part of the company’s approach. What is confirmed—and what remains open
- Confirmed: BMW unveiled the Concept RR on 23 May 2025 and called it a preview of a future generation of RR superbikes.
- Disclosed by BMW: The concept is based on a WSBK machine’s water-cooled inline-four, which BMW says makes more than 230 hp (169 kW), and uses WSBK M 1000 RR electronic systems.
- Not established by the announcement: A sixth-generation model designation, retail model name, production date, price, final road-bike output, or which concept features will reach production.
BMW also announced a Concept RR LTD jacket made with MEINDL, limited to 50 numbered pieces; its interview page says all 50 were handmade in Germany.
