BMW announced a production run of just 50 Skytop roadsters, each powered by a 625 hp V8. When BMW announced the decision on 11 October 2024, it said all 50 cars had already been reserved—a statement about reservations at that time, not confirmation that the cars were later built or delivered.
BMW Skytop production and availability
BMW first showed the car as the BMW Concept Skytop at the 2024 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como. BMW said the positive response to the concept prompted it to approve a strictly limited series of 50 cars.
In its 11 October 2024 announcement, BMW said all 50 examples had found future owners. That confirms the cars were reserved when the production decision was announced; the available BMW material does not establish whether production was completed or customers took delivery.

These are figures BMW published for the announced car. The acceleration claim is approximate, and BMW’s stated output is reproduced in its own units rather than converted to another horsepower convention.

Design: BMW 507 and Z8 influences
BMW presents the Skytop as an open-top, two-seat roadster connected to the marque’s roadster history, specifically citing the BMW 507 and BMW Z8. The company describes the bonnet’s arrow shape, shark-nose front and tapering rear as design references to the Z8.
BMW’s UK release also points to a pronounced line running from the bonnet to an aluminium bar on the boot lid, door-shoulder winglets that replace conventional handles, and specially detailed alloy wheels. These are BMW’s descriptions of the design, not independent assessments.

Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Group Head of Design, said: “The BMW Skytop is a truly exotic design and offers a combination of driving dynamics and elegance at the highest level.” The comment is BMW’s promotional description, not a road-test verdict.
