BMW’s checked official M lineup does not list an M9, and the company’s announced electric M generation for 2027 has not been associated with that name.
What does the reported BMW M9 trademark tell us?
The reported filing indicates that BMW sought protection for the M9 mark in the Philippines. A secondary report lists Bayerische Motoren Werke AG as the applicant, 16 August 2021 as the filing date, application number 42021519336, and International Classification 12, covering motor cars and parts or accessories. That is evidence of a name application in one jurisdiction—not evidence of a production decision, a prototype, or a launch plan. The filing details come from secondary reporting rather than a live official registry record, so the mark’s current legal status has not been established.
Is the BMW M9 a real, announced model?

BMW Group has announced that fully electric BMW M models will begin a new chapter in 2027, using Neue Klasse technology. The company describes four electric motors, a performance-optimised high-voltage battery, and M-specific driving dynamics control—but it does not call that program an M9. BMW M GmbH Managing Director Franciscus van Meel described the upcoming electric M generation this way: “The next generation of models are setting a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment. With the latest generation of Neue Klasse technology, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use.” BMW’s statement concerns the next electric M generation generally, not an M9.

Does the filing mean BMW is making a supercar?
No. The reported application concerns a name and a vehicle-related classification; it does not establish what kind of vehicle, if any, BMW might build under that name. Calling an M9 a supercar, halo car, or forthcoming production model goes beyond the confirmed information. CGI images and fan concepts are not evidence of BMW’s plans.
BMW has discussed material choices for its M cars, including natural fibres. BMW Group says natural fibres emit around 40 percent less CO₂e during production than carbon fibre, and notes BMW M’s experience with their durability, production, and integration since 2019. What would confirm an M9?
- An official BMW Group or BMW M vehicle announcement identifying the model.
- A primary trademark-registry record to establish the application’s current legal status—something the reported filing details alone cannot confirm.
Until BMW makes a model announcement, the most accurate description is “unconfirmed”: BMW reportedly applied for the M9 name in the Philippines in 2021, but has not confirmed an M9 car.
