Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallThe BMW M3 Sport Evolution is the final, most powerful development of the original E30 M3, and recent auction results show that some examples have sold for more than a new BMW M5’s U.S. starting price. That is a comparison between individual collector-car sales and a manufacturer’s suggested retail price—not a universal valuation or a like-for-like price quote.
What makes the M3 Sport Evolution the ultimate E30?
BMW identifies the 1990 Sport Evolution as the final development stage of the first-generation M3. Its engine grew to 2.5 litres and produced 238 hp, according to BMW M; BMW Group Classic gives the output as 238 PS. BMW Group Classic also reports a 25 kg weight reduction. The Sport Evolution was a limited run of 600 cars, according to BMW.
BMW describes it as “Only 600 models of the BMW M3 Sport Evolution were made – making the most powerful series E30 of all time one of the rarest and therefore most coveted classic cars.” The 600 figure is original production, not the number of surviving cars.
How much have M3 Sport Evolutions sold for?
Recent RM Sotheby’s results demonstrate how far individual examples can vary. The cars sold in different countries and currencies, at different dates, and with different mileage, condition and provenance. They are useful reference points, not a representative market average.

| Example and sale | Reported result | What the cited details establish |
|---|---|---|
| Paris, 2026 | €207,000 | RM Sotheby’s reports mileage and some provenance context for this individual car; no shared condition grade is established. RM Sotheby’s sale record |
| Munich, 2025 | €325,625 | A separate auction result; the figure is not interchangeable with a current asking price or a general valuation. RM Sotheby’s sale record |
| Woodcote Park, 2026 | £404,375 | RM Sotheby’s reports mileage and service or provenance context for this individual car; no common condition grade is established. RM Sotheby’s sale record |
These results should not be converted into a single “worth” figure without accounting for the particular car and sale. Mileage, condition, provenance, documentation, location, currency and auction date all matter; the cited examples do not use a common condition-grading system.
Is it more expensive than a new BMW M5?
In headline terms, yes: two of the cited auction results exceed the listed starting price of a new M5. BMW USA lists the 2027 M5 Sedan at a $123,300 starting MSRP, retrieved in 2026. BMW says dealer pricing may differ, and taxes and fees are excluded. The Paris result of €207,000 and Munich result of €325,625 are both higher as nominal figures in their own currencies, while the Woodcote Park result was £404,375. These are not direct currency-adjusted comparisons, and the M5 figure is a U.S. MSRP—not a transaction price or a local-market comparison.

What to check before using an auction result as a valuation
- Match the car, not just the badge: verify that the vehicle is a genuine Sport Evolution and examine its documentation.
- Assess condition and history: inspect the specific car’s condition, mileage, provenance and service records; the cited sales do not offer a common grading scale.
- Keep market context attached: note the sale date, location and currency, and distinguish a completed auction result from an asking price.
- Do not infer scarcity from survival: BMW’s production figure is 600 built, not a verified surviving-car count.
