When can you order the BMW iX5 and iX3 40 xDrive?
BMW iX5 60 xDrive
Electrive reported on 5 October 2026 that orders for the iX5 60 xDrive would open on 8 October 2026. BMW Group’s announcement of the new BMW X5 confirms that production of the electric model is planned to begin at Plant Spartanburg in December 2026, but does not confirm the reported order-opening date. Treat 8 October as a reported date unless BMW or a dealer confirms it directly.
BMW has not announced a price in the cited material. Electrive’s suggestion that the iX5 could cost more than €100,000 reflects other media reports, not confirmed BMW pricing.
BMW iX3 40 xDrive
Electrive reports that the iX3 40 xDrive is scheduled for production from February 2027. Its quoted starting price is €65,900 in Germany. The date and price are reported details, not a universal order schedule or price list; local availability and pricing may differ.

What is reported about the iX5 60 xDrive?
BMW describes the electric iX5 as using sixth-generation eDrive technology, an 800-volt architecture and Gen6 cylindrical battery cells. BMW gives a provisional WLTP range of 645–845 km, depending on equipment, and a provisional maximum charging rate of 460 kW. These are manufacturer figures, not independent road-test results, and the top of the range is not guaranteed for every configuration.
Electrive’s 5 October 2026 report lists 425 kW, 805 Nm, 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, a 210 km/h top speed and 141 kWh net battery capacity. It also reports up to 460 kW DC charging and a 10–80% charge in 23 minutes. BMW’s cited announcement independently supports the provisional range and peak charging figure, but not all of those detailed specifications.

The electric model joins the new X5 family alongside combustion-engine and plug-in hybrid versions. BMW says a hydrogen version is planned for a later date.
How does the iX3 40 xDrive compare with other iX3 versions?
The figures below are Germany-specific values reported by Electrive. BMW’s summer 2026 release separately gives specifications for the rear-wheel-drive iX3 40; it does not independently confirm the later-reported xDrive variant.

BMW’s summer 2026 figures for the rear-wheel-drive iX3 40 include an 82.6 kWh usable battery, up to 300 kW charging and 200 km/h top speed. Electrive reports the same 82.6 kWh usable capacity and up to 300 kW charging for the iX3 40 xDrive, alongside its 621 km maximum WLTP range. The xDrive version’s reported range is lower than the rear-wheel-drive model’s, while its added driven axle and higher output distinguish it; the figures are published specifications, not a like-for-like independent test.

BMW’s summer 2026 announcement describes new routines from July 2026. The assistant can suggest routines based on usage patterns, and drivers can set conditions and actions. BMW also describes assistant updates, but rollout depends on model and market. Electrive separately reports that an autumn 2026 update adds expanded entertainment and BMW Drive Challenge. These are distinct feature announcements, not a promise that every feature arrives together on every BMW.

BMW says German-language AI assistant capability began in the iX3 from mid-April 2026 production. Earlier vehicles in that series were due to receive it through a software update from late May; additional OS 9 and OS X models and markets were to follow during the second half of 2026. For a specific vehicle, BMW USA’s software update page directs owners to check availability using the VIN. The cited US support information does not establish availability in other regions.

What should buyers check before placing an order?
- Confirm the market’s order status. The iX5’s 8 October 2026 opening is reported by Electrive; BMW’s official statement confirms December production, not that exact order date.
- Ask for a local, configured price. The €65,900 iX3 40 xDrive figure is a reported German starting price. No iX5 price is confirmed in the cited sources.
- Compare range on the same basis. These range figures use the WLTP cycle and vary with model and equipment; they are not real-world guarantees.
- Check software eligibility by vehicle. OS X features and update timing depend on model and market, and an owner’s available update should be checked against the vehicle.
- Plan home charging locally. BMW USA says the iX3 can charge at home and identifies an optional hardwired 240V BMW Wallbox. Verify regional electrical compatibility and the applicable product listing rather than assuming US charging equipment applies elsewhere.
