The best V8 sedan for most enthusiasts is the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing. It is the rare current sedan that combines a 668-hp supercharged V8, rear-wheel drive, a standard six-speed manual, usable rear seats, and serious track capability without starting in the $120,000-plus range. The BMW M5 is the better all-weather and long-distance choice, the Mercedes-Benz S 580 is the best quiet-luxury daily driver, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is the quickest strict sedan in the sourced comparison, and the Bentley Flying Spur Speed is the ultra-luxury answer.
This guide covers the U.S. market as of August 9, 2026, separating current new cars from discontinued used choices. It also separates conventional four-door sedans from five-door liftbacks such as the Audi RS 7 and Porsche Panamera.
Quick picks: the best V8 sedans
| Buyer priority | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Best overall driver’s sedan | Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing | Supercharged V8, rear-wheel drive, manual transmission, excellent chassis, and the strongest balance of price and involvement. |
| Best under $100,000 new | Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing | Its $98,900 starting MSRP is below the other serious new strict-sedan choices, before options and destination. |
| Best all-weather performance sedan | BMW M5 | 717-hp plug-in-hybrid powertrain, M xDrive all-wheel drive, rear-drive mode, and exceptional acceleration. |
| Best luxury daily driver | Mercedes-Benz S 580 4MATIC | Quiet V8 power, a comfortable ride, generous rear-seat space, and no need to regularly charge a plug-in hybrid. |
| Fastest tested strict sedan | Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance | Car and Driver recorded 2.6 seconds to 60 mph, although it costs $189,800 before options and weighs about 5,831 pounds. |
| Best ultra-luxury sedan | Bentley Flying Spur Speed | 771 bhp, a claimed 191-mph top speed, exceptional materials, and chauffeur-grade rear-seat comfort. |
| Best naturally aspirated V8 | Used Lexus IS 500 | Linear, high-revving 5.0-liter V8 character with a simpler powertrain than today’s V8 plug-in hybrids. |
| Best used manual sleeper | Used Chevrolet SS | A discreet full-size sedan with an LS3 V8, rear-wheel drive, and an available six-speed manual. |
| Best used straight-line muscle sedan | Used Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat | 717 to 807 hp, a spacious cabin, and extraordinary acceleration, but substantial abuse and running-cost risks. |
“Best” here is an editorial judgment based on the buyer’s priorities, not a claim that one car is superior in every measurable category. A 791-hp AMG S 63 is faster than a Blackwing, for example, but the Cadillac is lighter, more communicative, available with a manual, and much less expensive.
What counts as a V8 sedan?
This list uses two categories. A strict sedan has four doors and a conventional trunk: the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing, BMW M5, Mercedes-Benz S 580, Mercedes-AMG S 63, Bentley Flying Spur, Lexus IS 500, Chevrolet SS, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300C qualify.

- 2 Modes of Operation: There are two ways to operate the 12V electric stroller, which can be operated by the child himself by manipulating the steering wheel and foot pedal. If the child can not drive, the parents can control the direction and speed by remote control
- 3-Speed & Smooth Start: The remote control provides 3-speed adjustment and manual operation provides 2-speed adjustment to ensure the safety of children, while equipped with a smooth start design to ensure the safety of your kids. The maximum speed can reach 3Mph
- Realistic Experience: The power wheel car comes with bright headlights and realistic taillights that look like real models, built-in music, voltage display, USB and AUX connectors, volume control, TF card slot and speakers, along with a widened seat and adjustable seat belt design to ensure a safe and comfortable experience for children
- Rechargeable & Durable: The battery type is 12V, the time required for charging is 8-12 hours, and it can run for 1-2 hours when fully charged, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
- Age and Weight Capacity: This children's car has a maximum weight capacity of 55Lbs, suitable for children from 3 to 5 years old, with excellent reliability of use
A sedan-like four-door performance car may have a sloping rear roof and a liftback hatch. The Audi RS 7 and Porsche Panamera are excellent alternatives, but both are five-door liftbacks rather than conventional trunk sedans. The Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and BMW M8 Gran Coupe belong in the same broader group. They are included below so that a body-style technicality does not hide relevant choices, but they are not mixed silently into the strict-sedan rankings.
The market date matters. In the United States, the new V8 sedan field is now very small. The Lexus IS 500, Chrysler 300C, and old V8 Dodge Charger are used or remaining-inventory recommendations rather than normal 2026 new-car choices.
Current new V8 sedans in the U.S.
Prices below are manufacturer-listed U.S. starting MSRPs unless otherwise stated. Destination charges, options, taxes, dealer markups, and limited availability can materially increase the actual purchase price. Hybrid horsepower figures are combined system outputs, not necessarily combustion-engine output alone.
| Model | Powertrain | Drive and transmission | Performance | Price and practicality |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing | 6.2-liter supercharged V8; 668 hp, 659 lb-ft | RWD; six-speed manual standard, 10-speed automatic optional | Cadillac estimates 3.4 seconds to 60 mph; Car and Driver tested 3.5 seconds automatic and 3.6 seconds manual | From $98,900; five seats; 11.9-cu-ft trunk |
| BMW M5 | 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 plus electric motor; 717-hp system output | M xDrive AWD with 2WD capability; eight-speed automatic | BMW estimates 3.4 seconds; Car and Driver recorded 3.0 seconds and a 10.9-second quarter-mile | Approximately $123,300 for the current listed model; about 25 miles of claimed electric range; 17-cu-ft trunk |
| Mercedes-Benz S 580 4MATIC | 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with mild-hybrid assistance; 496 hp, 516 lb-ft | AWD; nine-speed automatic | Mercedes estimates 4.3 seconds to 60 mph | $130,700; 17/27 mpg city/highway; 12.8-cu-ft trunk; 43.8 inches of rear legroom |
| Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance | Handcrafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 plus rear electric motor; 791 hp, 1,055 lb-ft | AWD; AMG nine-speed automatic | Mercedes estimates 3.0 seconds; Car and Driver recorded 2.6 seconds | $189,800; approximately 5,831 pounds; about 16 miles of EPA electric range; 10.7-cu-ft trunk |
| Bentley Flying Spur | 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 plus electric motor; 671 bhp high-performance hybrid | AWD; eight-speed dual-clutch automatic | Bentley claims 3.8 seconds to 60 mph and 168 mph | Car and Driver lists roughly $254,850–$347,850 for 2026 variants, depending on specification |
| Bentley Flying Spur Speed | Ultra Performance Hybrid V8; 771 bhp, 738 lb-ft | AWD; eight-speed dual-clutch automatic | Bentley claims 3.3 seconds and 191 mph; Car and Driver tested 3.0 seconds | Highly option-dependent; bespoke versions can exceed published base figures |
Official and independent acceleration figures are not directly interchangeable. Launch-control settings, tires, weather, test surfaces, fuel, vehicle options, and rollout conventions all affect the result. Manufacturer claims are useful for comparison, while instrumented tests show what a particular example achieved under particular conditions.

The CT5-V Blackwing is the best V8 sedan for the enthusiast who wants the engine and chassis to remain the central experience. Its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 produces 668 hp and 659 lb-ft, drives the rear wheels, and can be paired with either a standard six-speed manual or an optional 10-speed automatic. Cadillac quotes a 3.4-second 0–60 time; Car and Driver recorded 3.5 seconds for an automatic and 3.6 seconds for a manual example.
Its advantage is not merely the horsepower figure. The Blackwing combines a responsive supercharged engine, a playful rear-drive balance, Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo brakes, and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. It can commute comfortably, carry four adults in reasonable comfort, and handle track work without becoming a single-purpose toy. The 11.9-cu-ft trunk and five-seat layout help it function as an everyday car.
It is also the only current mainstream-market sedan in this group with a standard manual transmission. That makes it the clear answer for drivers who value clutch-and-shifter involvement more than the quickest launch. The automatic is quicker from a stop and may be more convenient in traffic, but the manual provides a more interactive experience.
Car and Driver rated the 2026 Blackwing 10/10 and placed it on the 2026 10Best list for the fifth consecutive year. Its principal weaknesses are the less upscale interior, merely adequate rear-seat space, poor fuel economy, and limited availability. Carbon-ceramic brakes, track tires, carbon-fiber packages, and other options can also push the price far beyond the $98,900 starting MSRP.
Choose it if: you want a manual, rear-wheel drive, track capability, V8 sound, and the most engaging current sedan.
Avoid it if: you need all-wheel drive for frequent snow, demand S-Class-quality materials, or prioritize the fastest possible 0–60 time over steering feel and weight.
See Cadillac’s CT5-V Blackwing specifications and Car and Driver’s independent review.
2. BMW M5: best all-weather performance sedan
The current M5 takes a fundamentally different approach. Its twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 works with an electric motor for a 717-hp system output, and M xDrive all-wheel drive can be configured for rear-drive behavior. BMW quotes 3.4 seconds to 60 mph; Car and Driver recorded 3.0 seconds, a 10.9-second quarter-mile, and approximately 25 miles of electric range.
The M5 is the better choice for a driver who faces rain or snow, takes frequent long trips, wants a larger trunk, and appreciates rapid hybrid-assisted launches. BMW lists a 17-cu-ft trunk, considerably more than the Blackwing’s 11.9 cubic feet. The ability to complete short trips electrically can also reduce engine use when the battery is charged.
The trade-off is mass. BMW lists the current M5 at roughly 5,390 pounds, making it far heavier than older M5 generations and less delicate than the Cadillac. Its steering is less communicative, and the plug-in-hybrid system adds weight, hardware, and long-term complexity. It remains very fast when the battery is depleted, but the car’s behavior and launch performance can change when the battery is not at its preferred state of charge.
BMW says the M5 automatically maintains an energy buffer so the system can preserve maximum power capability under most conditions. That does not make the battery irrelevant: prospective owners should consider whether they can charge at home and whether they want a car that combines high-performance V8 ownership with high-voltage hybrid hardware.
Choose it if: you want maximum all-weather pace, all-wheel-drive security, long-distance comfort, electric commuting capability, and a modern cabin.

3. Mercedes-Benz S 580 4MATIC: best luxury daily driver
The S 580 is the right V8 sedan when refinement matters more than track aggression. Its 496-hp, 516-lb-ft 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 uses mild-hybrid assistance and sends power through a nine-speed automatic to all four wheels. Mercedes estimates 4.3 seconds to 60 mph, which is already abundant performance for normal road use.
Its priorities are quietness, ride quality, isolation, and rear-seat comfort. AIRMATIC suspension and long-wheelbase proportions make it better suited to highway travel and executive use than the firmer, more focused Blackwing. Mercedes lists 43.8 inches of rear legroom and a 12.8-cu-ft trunk. Unlike the M5, S 63, and current Flying Spur variants, the S 580’s mild-hybrid system does not require routine external charging.
Recommended Free Tools
The S 580 is still an expensive and technically complex luxury car. Air suspension, advanced electronics, adaptive systems, and extensive cabin equipment can make out-of-warranty repairs costly. Its steering and handling are not intended to rival the Cadillac or BMW; it is a luxury sedan first and a sports sedan second.
Choose it if: you want a V8-powered daily driver that emphasizes calm, comfort, rear-seat room, and effortless speed.
Avoid it if: you want a manual transmission, playful rear-drive handling, or the lowest possible ownership complexity.
See the S 580 at Mercedes-Benz USA.
4. Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance: best maximum-performance luxury sedan
The AMG S 63 applies a 791-hp, 1,055-lb-ft plug-in-hybrid powertrain to the S-Class formula. Mercedes quotes 3.0 seconds to 60 mph, while Car and Driver recorded 2.6 seconds. That makes it the quickest strict sedan in the sourced comparison, although the Bentley Flying Spur Speed also achieved 3.0 seconds in independent testing.

Its performance is remarkable for a car with a genuinely luxurious cabin and substantial rear-seat space. All-wheel drive, rear-axle steering, adaptive suspension, and the rear electric motor help manage the car’s size. The plug-in system can also make short local trips quieter and less fuel-intensive when charged.
But the S 63 weighs approximately 5,831 pounds and starts at $189,800 before options. It is brutally fast rather than delicate, and its 10.7-cu-ft trunk is small relative to the car’s exterior dimensions. The separate electric drive system, high-output V8, cooling systems, battery, and luxury electronics create a more complicated ownership proposition than the Blackwing.
Choose it if: you want near-supercar acceleration without giving up S-Class comfort, technology, or rear-seat luxury.
Avoid it if: you want a lightweight sports sedan, a conventional V8 powertrain, or a sensible cost-to-performance ratio.

5. Bentley Flying Spur Speed: best ultra-luxury V8 sedan
The Flying Spur Speed is for buyers who want Bentley craftsmanship, rear-seat luxury, and sports-car acceleration in one four-door car. Its Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain produces 771 bhp and 738 lb-ft, sends power to all four wheels, and uses an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. Bentley claims 3.3 seconds to 60 mph and a 191-mph top speed; Car and Driver tested 3.0 seconds.
Rear-wheel steering, torque vectoring, active anti-roll technology, and adaptive suspension make the Flying Spur more agile than its size suggests. Its strongest advantage over the German performance sedans is not another tenth of a second: it is the quality of the materials, the breadth of personalization, and the sense of occasion for occupants in both rows.
The cost is substantial. Car and Driver lists approximately $254,850 to $347,850 for 2026 Flying Spur variants, and bespoke options can raise the final figure further. Maintenance, tires, brakes, insurance, and customized trim are in a different financial category from the Cadillac. Car and Driver also noted occasional stumbling during the electric-to-engine handoff in its test car, an example of why a buyer should evaluate the hybrid system rather than assuming every transition will be seamless.

Best V8 sedan by use case
Best manual V8 sedan: Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing
The Blackwing is the only current new choice here with a standard manual. Its six-speed gearbox gives it an advantage that horsepower tables cannot capture. The used Chevrolet SS is the other important choice: 2015–2017 examples offered a six-speed manual with a naturally aspirated LS3 V8. Manual buyers should inspect clutch wear, synchro behavior, differential noise, driveline lash, and evidence of repeated track or drag-strip launches.
Best naturally aspirated V8 sedan: Lexus IS 500
The Lexus IS 500 is the best answer for a buyer who values a traditional, linear V8 over maximum acceleration. Its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 makes 472 hp and 395 lb-ft, drives the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic, and reached 60 mph in 4.3 seconds in Car and Driver testing. Car and Driver cites EPA estimates of 17/25 mpg city/highway.
It is not a current normal 2026 new-car choice. The 2025 brochure describes the IS 500, while Lexus’s 2026 IS range is IS 350-only with a 311-hp V6. Shop 2022–2025 examples, with 2025 cars especially relevant as the final model-year vehicles before the V8 disappeared from the lineup. Expect a small rear seat and roughly 11 cubic feet of trunk space, along with older infotainment and active-safety technology than newer German rivals.
Lexus’s 2026 lineup announcement confirms why the IS 500 belongs in the used section, while the 2025 Lexus brochure documents the V8 model.
Best winter V8 sedan: BMW M5
The M5’s standard M xDrive all-wheel drive and ability to select rear-drive behavior make it the strongest new choice for wet and snowy climates. However, AWD does not eliminate the need for appropriate winter tires. The CT5-V Blackwing can be used in winter with proper tires, but its rear-wheel-drive layout demands more care on snow and ice. The S 580 and S 63 also provide AWD, while the Lexus IS 500, Chevrolet SS, Charger Hellcat, and Chrysler 300C are rear-drive cars.
Best V8 sedan for rear-seat passengers: Mercedes-Benz S 580 or Bentley Flying Spur
The S-Class is the practical luxury choice, with 43.8 inches of rear legroom and a quieter, more comfort-focused cabin than the performance sedans. The Bentley is the more lavish choice, with richer materials and greater personalization, but the financial commitment is far higher. The CT5-V Blackwing’s rear seat is usable but not expansive, and the M5 prioritizes performance hardware and trunk space over limousine-like rear accommodations.
Fastest V8 sedan: Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance in independent testing
Car and Driver recorded 2.6 seconds to 60 mph for the AMG S 63. The BMW M5 reached 3.0 seconds, the Bentley Flying Spur Speed reached 3.0 seconds, the Audi RS 7 reached 2.9 seconds but is a liftback, and the CT5-V Blackwing reached 3.5 seconds in automatic form and 3.6 seconds with the manual. These results should not be treated as a universal laboratory ranking because test conditions and equipment differ.
Best value used V8 sedan: Chevrolet SS or Chrysler 300C
The Chevrolet SS is the better value-oriented driver’s car. It has a 415-hp naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LS3, rear-wheel drive, an available manual, a 16-cu-ft trunk, and a discreet appearance. Car and Driver recorded 4.5 seconds to 60 mph in a manual example. The 2017 model year was the last.
The 2023 Chrysler 300C is the better choice for a buyer who wants a large, comfortable American sedan with a muscular V8. Its 6.4-liter Hemi produces 485 hp and 475 lb-ft, and Car and Driver recorded 4.4 seconds to 60 mph. Production ended after 2023, with approximately 2,000 U.S. cars and 200 Canadian cars reported in Car and Driver coverage. Its platform and interior are old, and its standard all-season tires do not fully exploit the engine’s output.

The used Charger Hellcat remains the answer for outrageous power and usable rear-seat and trunk space. Standard Hellcat models produce 717 hp; Redeye versions produce 797 hp, and Jailbreak versions reach up to 807 hp. All use a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, rear-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic. Car and Driver tested a Hellcat Redeye at 3.5 seconds to 60 mph and an 11.5-second quarter-mile.
Do not confuse the current gasoline Charger with a V8 sedan. The new gasoline Charger uses a twin-turbocharged inline-six, while the previous V8 Charger and Challenger programs ended after the 2023 model year. The old Charger is therefore a used-car recommendation.
Used V8 sedans worth shopping
Lexus IS 500: the sensible naturally aspirated choice
- Target years: 2022–2025.
- Engine: naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8.
- Output: 472 hp and 395 lb-ft.
- Transmission: eight-speed automatic only.
- Strengths: linear throttle response, high-rpm character, rear-wheel drive, and a powertrain with less hybrid complexity than newer rivals.
- Weaknesses: small rear seat and trunk, dated infotainment, no manual, and potentially firm pricing for clean final-year examples.
The IS 500 is not as fast or track-focused as the Blackwing, but it offers a more traditional V8 experience than the current hybrid super-sedans. A clean, unmodified example with complete service records is more important than simply finding the lowest odometer reading.
Chevrolet SS: the sleeper and manual bargain
- Target years: 2014–2017 overall; 2015–2017 for the manual.
- Engine: naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LS3 V8.
- Output: 415 hp and 415 lb-ft.
- Transmission: six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
- Strengths: full-size practicality, understated styling, 16-cu-ft trunk, and factory manual availability.
- Weaknesses: old infotainment and safety technology, scarce clean manuals, and a high risk of modifications or hard use as the cars age.
Inspect the clutch, gearbox, differential, cooling system, suspension, and underbody. A clean stock car with records is worth more consideration than a superficially cheaper example with aftermarket tuning or uncertain history.

Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat: the muscle-sedan choice
- Target years: 2015–2023; 2021–2023 Redeye and Jailbreak cars offer the highest outputs.
- Engine: supercharged 6.2-liter V8.
- Output: 717 hp standard, 797 hp Redeye, up to 807 hp Jailbreak.
- Transmission: eight-speed automatic.
- Strengths: huge straight-line performance, four-door practicality, and a broad used-market selection.
- Weaknesses: expensive tires, poor fuel economy, dated interior, weaker steering feel, and a serious risk of racing, theft, collision, or modification history.
A pre-purchase inspection should look for overheating, supercharger problems, drivetrain abuse, evidence of drag-strip use, bent suspension components, uneven tire wear, and accident repairs. Verify that the vehicle was not rebuilt after theft or collision damage.
2023 Chrysler 300C: the relaxed American V8
- Engine: 6.4-liter Hemi V8.
- Output: 485 hp and 475 lb-ft.
- Transmission and drive: eight-speed automatic, rear-wheel drive.
- Performance: 4.4 seconds to 60 mph in Car and Driver testing.
- Production: final model year was 2023; limited production makes condition and pricing especially important.
The 300C is appealing because it delivers a large, comfortable traditional sedan at a potentially lower cost than current European performance cars. It is not as sophisticated in braking, handling, cabin technology, or suspension control as the Blackwing or M5. Buy it for its relaxed American character, not because it is a modern sports sedan benchmark.
Used Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing: perhaps the smartest high-end purchase
A lightly used 2022–2025 CT5-V Blackwing deserves consideration alongside a new car. The core formula is unchanged: 668-hp supercharged V8, rear-wheel drive, standard six-speed manual, optional 10-speed automatic, Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo brakes, and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Because year-to-year changes are limited, a well-maintained used example can provide the same essential experience without paying for a new-car allocation or every option.
Check clutch and tire wear on manual cars, brake condition on cars equipped with carbon-ceramic hardware, alignment and underbody damage, cooling-system performance, and any evidence of track use. Do not assume a low-mileage performance car was lightly used; service records and an independent inspection matter more than the odometer alone.

Audi RS 7 Performance
The RS 7 is a five-door Sportback liftback, not a four-door trunk sedan. It uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 621 hp and 627 lb-ft, with Audi estimating 3.3 seconds to 60 mph. Audi lists a starting MSRP of $130,700, while Car and Driver tested one at 2.9 seconds. Its hatchback opening provides more flexible cargo access than a conventional sedan, and its all-wheel-drive performance makes it a compelling alternative for buyers who do not require a traditional trunk.
Porsche Panamera
The Panamera is also a five-door liftback, although Porsche and many reviewers call it a sport sedan. The 2026 range includes the V8-powered GTS, Turbo E-Hybrid, and Turbo S E-Hybrid. Porsche lists the 2026 Turbo E-Hybrid at $207,900 with a twin-turbo V8 plus electric motor. It belongs in the broader four-door performance category rather than the strict trunk-sedan ranking.
See Porsche’s Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid.
Which V8 architecture should you choose?
Naturally aspirated V8
Naturally aspirated engines deliver a linear relationship between throttle movement and power, with no turbocharger or supercharger boost building in the background. Their character generally becomes more urgent as revs rise. The Lexus IS 500 and Chevrolet SS are the key used examples. They are not necessarily the quickest, but they suit buyers who value response, sound, and mechanical simplicity over peak torque.
Supercharged V8
Superchargers provide strong, immediate torque and a distinctive intake and exhaust character. The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing and Charger Hellcat use this approach. It suits buyers who want traditional American performance and instant response without turbo lag. Fuel consumption and tire wear remain significant concerns.
Twin-turbo V8
Twin-turbo engines deliver substantial midrange torque and high output from relatively compact displacement. The BMW M5, S 580, AMG S 63, Audi RS 7, and Flying Spur use twin-turbo V8s. They are ideal for effortless acceleration, but turbochargers, cooling systems, emissions equipment, and related electronics add hardware that should be considered in long-term ownership.
V8 plug-in hybrid
The BMW M5, AMG S 63, Bentley Flying Spur, and Porsche Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid pair a V8 with electric drive. The electric motor provides instant launch response and can enable quiet short trips, while the V8 supplies sustained high-speed performance. The disadvantages are additional mass, greater system complexity, charging requirements, and the need to interpret combined system output correctly.
A depleted battery does not make the BMW M5 unusable. BMW says the car maintains an energy buffer and can preserve maximum system-power capability under most conditions. However, owners should expect the car’s mass, fuel use, and launch behavior to matter more when the battery is not in its preferred state of charge. Ask whether you have home charging, whether your trips fit within the available electric range, and whether you want V8 sound or the fastest possible system acceleration.

Fuel and charging
High-output supercharged and turbocharged V8s generally require premium gasoline, but buyers should confirm the exact requirement in the owner’s manual or official specifications. Cadillac explicitly specifies premium fuel for the CT5-V Blackwing’s quoted output. The S 580 is listed at 17/27 mpg city/highway; fuel economy for the performance models will be heavily affected by driving style, tire choice, temperature, and how often a hybrid is charged.
Plug-in hybrids make the most sense when the owner can charge at home or work and regularly drives trips within the car’s electric range. If charging is inconvenient, do not buy one solely for its advertised electric capability. You will still be operating a heavy, high-output V8 sedan, and depleted-battery fuel consumption can be substantial.
Tires
Performance tires are a major ownership expense. The Blackwing, M5, AMG S 63, Bentley, and Hellcat can use wide, staggered ultra-high-performance tires that are expensive, vulnerable to potholes, and short-lived under enthusiastic driving. Check tread depth, date codes, inside-edge wear, and whether all four tires match the required specification. Include an imminent tire replacement in the purchase budget.
Steel versus carbon-ceramic brakes
Carbon-ceramic brakes can reduce unsprung mass and resist fade during repeated track use, but replacement rotors can be extremely expensive. For a street-only buyer, standard steel brakes may offer a better ownership balance. On a used car, identify which brake system is fitted, inspect rotor and pad condition, and obtain a replacement-cost estimate before buying. Do not assume a carbon-ceramic option is automatically an advantage.

Used V8 sedan inspection checklist
Before buying any used V8 sedan, complete these steps:
- Get the 17-character VIN. Do not rely only on a dealer’s stock number or online advertisement.
- Run the VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup. NHTSA says the tool identifies unrepaired recalls, which are generally repaired free of charge by the manufacturer’s dealer network.
- Review title and accident history. Look for salvage, rebuilt, flood, theft-recovery, and repeated auction records.
- Demand service records. Oil changes, cooling-system work, transmission service, differential service, brake replacement, and hybrid inspections matter more than a clean presentation.
- Have an independent specialist inspect the car. A dealer’s sales inspection is not a substitute for an independent pre-purchase inspection.
- Scan for stored and pending fault codes. This is particularly important for turbochargers, hybrid systems, adaptive suspension, air suspension, emissions hardware, and electronic differentials.
- Inspect the tires and wheels. Check for mismatched tires, inner-edge wear, bent wheels, pothole damage, and track-oriented compounds used on the street.
- Check brakes carefully. Identify steel versus carbon-ceramic components and price replacements before completing the purchase.
- Test the car cold and hot. Watch for rough starting, overheating, warning lights, transmission hesitation, reverse-gear delay, driveline noise, and hybrid-system irregularities.
- Look for modifications. Tuners, aftermarket downpipes, pulley changes, drag-racing tires, lowered suspension, and wiring changes can increase risk and complicate warranty claims.
Use NHTSA’s recall lookup before purchase, then confirm that any open work has actually been completed.
Special-edition CT5-V Blackwings
Cadillac announced a 26-unit 2026 CT5-V Blackwing F1 Collector Series with a modified supercharged V8 producing 685 hp and 673 lb-ft. It is exclusively paired with the six-speed manual and Precision Package. Its extreme rarity makes it a collector exception, not a normal shopping recommendation.
Cadillac’s Curated by Cadillac program offers limited 2026 Blackwings with bespoke customization at an announced approximate $158,000 MSRP including destination, before taxes, title, and dealer fees. It retains the regular 668-hp powertrain. That figure should not be confused with the standard Blackwing’s $98,900 starting MSRP.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best V8 sedan overall?
The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is the best overall choice for most enthusiasts. It combines a 668-hp supercharged V8, rear-wheel drive, a standard six-speed manual, strong track capability, usable rear seats, and a lower starting price than the BMW M5, Mercedes-AMG S 63, and Bentley Flying Spur. The BMW M5 is a better fit if all-weather traction and hybrid-assisted acceleration matter more than weight and steering feel.

What is the best V8 sedan under $100,000?
Among current U.S. new strict sedans, the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is the clear choice, with a $98,900 starting MSRP before destination, options, taxes, and dealer pricing. Buyers on a genuinely lower budget should look at used cars such as the Chevrolet SS, Lexus IS 500, Chrysler 300C, or older V8 Charger rather than assuming a new Blackwing will remain below $100,000 after options.
Which V8 sedans have a manual transmission?
The current Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing has a standard six-speed manual. In the used market, the Chevrolet SS was available with a six-speed manual from 2015 through 2017. The Lexus IS 500, BMW M5, Mercedes S-Class V8 models, Bentley Flying Spur, Charger Hellcat, and Chrysler 300C are automatic-only.
What is the fastest V8 sedan?
In the sourced independent testing, the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is the quickest strict sedan at 2.6 seconds to 60 mph according to Car and Driver. The BMW M5 and Bentley Flying Spur Speed each recorded 3.0 seconds, while the Audi RS 7 recorded 2.9 seconds but is a five-door liftback rather than a conventional sedan.
Is the Lexus IS 500 still available new in 2026?
Not as a normal 2026 U.S. model. The 2025 Lexus brochure lists the 472-hp IS 500, while Lexus’s 2026 IS lineup is IS 350-only with a 311-hp V6. The IS 500 is therefore best treated as a used or remaining-inventory recommendation.
Are the Audi RS 7 and Porsche Panamera sedans?
They are commonly described as sport sedans, but technically both are five-door liftbacks. They offer sedan-like seating and performance with a hatchback cargo opening. This guide lists them as four-door performance alternatives rather than conventional trunk sedans.
Which V8 sedan has the lowest ownership risk?
No modern high-performance luxury sedan can honestly be guaranteed to have low ownership costs. The Lexus IS 500 and Chevrolet SS have simpler powertrain architectures than current V8 plug-in hybrids, but age, maintenance history, previous modifications, tires, brakes, electronics, and suspension condition are decisive. A professional inspection is more reliable than a broad badge-based reliability claim.
Are V8 plug-in-hybrid sedans worth considering?
They are worth considering if you can charge regularly and want instant electric launch response, quiet short trips, and very high combined output. They add weight, hardware, and long-term complexity, however. If your priority is a traditional V8 sound and mechanical feel, the CT5-V Blackwing, Lexus IS 500, or Chevrolet SS is a better match.
The Bottom Line
The bottom line
Choose the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing if you want the most complete enthusiast package and a manual transmission. Choose the BMW M5 for all-weather speed, long-distance usability, and hybrid-assisted acceleration. Choose the Mercedes-Benz S 580 for quiet luxury and rear-seat comfort, or the AMG S 63 if maximum acceleration matters more than weight and price. The Bentley Flying Spur Speed is the luxury-and-exclusivity choice.
