The right choice depends on how much you haul or tow, the terrain you ride, and whether you prioritize work equipment, trail comfort, or a balance of both. The available manufacturer information supports a useful shortlist of representative models and families—not a verified roster of 25 current, distinct models—so this guide compares what can be substantiated rather than padding the list.
How to choose a utility ATV
Start with the jobs and terrain, then compare the exact trim—not just the model name. A machine intended for property work may emphasize cargo and towing, while a mixed-use quad may put more emphasis on trail handling. Manufacturer descriptions can help identify intended use, but claims about comfort or capability are not independent test results.
Match the ATV to the work
- Property work and hauling: Check front and rear rack limits, towing capacity, available accessories, and whether the machine’s dimensions suit your paths and storage.
- Mixed trail and work use: Consider power steering (EPS), suspension layout and travel, ground clearance, and weight. These affect handling and clearance, but the cited manufacturer pages do not provide comparable values across the models below.
- Traction and cargo needs: Compare the selectable drivetrain and differential behavior. A 6×6 is a distinct configuration, not simply another trim of a two- or four-wheel-drive ATV.
Compare the actual drivetrain and trim
Look for whether the ATV offers selectable 2WD and 4WD, a locking differential, reverse, and a manual, automatic, or CVT transmission. EPS may be standard on one version and optional or unavailable on another. Do not assume a feature listed for a model family applies to every trim.
Representative utility ATV models and families
The table uses US-market information from the cited manufacturer pages and announcements. Price figures are not directly comparable: Yamaha’s are launch MSRPs for 2025 models, while Can-Am’s are displayed starting prices for 2026 models. Manufacturer listing prices are not out-the-door quotes and may exclude destination, preparation, taxes, registration, and dealer charges.

Which published figures are most useful?
Honda’s capacities are distinct limits
For the 2026 Foreman Rubicon 4×4 EPS, Honda lists a 1,322-pound towing capacity, 99-pound front rack capacity, and 187-pound rear rack capacity. These describe different uses: towing capacity is not cargo capacity, and neither rack limit should be added to towing capacity to infer a total payload. Follow the owner’s manual and applicable load guidance for the specific ATV.
Price comparisons need a model-year label
The Yamaha figures above are 2025-model launch MSRPs announced in 2024; Can-Am’s figures are displayed starting prices for 2026 models on its US listing, accessed October 8, 2026. Treat both as reference points, not dealer quotes. Ask a local dealer for the exact trim, fees, freight and setup charges, taxes, and current availability.

What to verify before buying
- Choose the exact model year and trim. Ask the dealer to identify the full product name and included equipment on the quote.
- Check specifications in the maker’s page or owner’s manual. Confirm transmission, reverse, 2WD/4WD selection, differential operation, EPS, suspension, ground clearance, weight, towing limit, and each rack limit for that trim.
- Test fit the ATV to your routes. Check width, turning space, ground clearance, and storage against your trails, gates, trailer, and shed. The figures available here are not comprehensive enough for a cross-brand fit comparison.
- Get a written, local out-the-door quote. Confirm whether the advertised price includes freight or setup, and ask about taxes, registration, warranty terms, and dealer fees.
- Confirm rider preparation and local rules. Honda recommends riders be 16 or older, take a training course, and read the owner’s manual. That is Honda’s recommendation for its product, not a complete statement of local law; check the rules where you will ride.
How to read a “25 best” list
A count of 25 is only useful if it means 25 distinct, current products with model year, geography, and trim clearly identified. Counting colors, engine groupings, or optional packages as separate models can make a list look broader without giving buyers 25 meaningful choices. The official information cited here supports a representative comparison, but not 25 verified, currently available utility ATV models.
