Its examples include 2022–2024 Miatas and BRZs, 2022–2024 GR86s and 2024 Mustangs. Listing prices change and can vary substantially by location and condition.

Ford Mustang: compare the exact engine and trim
Car and Driver includes 2024 Mustang examples in its used ranking and describes the range as including turbo-four and V-8 powertrains. Whether a particular Mustang is under $30,000 depends on local market, mileage and trim; do not assume the ranking makes every example affordable.
Older Chevrolet Corvette: performance with more age-related risk
Edmunds’ guide, republished by the Associated Press, names 2008–2013 C6 Corvettes among performance buys under $25,000 and says the V-8 can make up to 430 horsepower. It also stresses checking maintenance records. Treat this as a higher-age, condition-sensitive possibility, not a blanket recommendation based on the model name.

How to compare the cars you find
- Seating and daily use: Decide whether two seats are enough or whether a small 2+2 layout and rear cargo area are useful. Check cabin fit, trunk space and ride comfort, especially if you plan to commute.
- Driving character: Compare the roadster’s small-car feel with coupe handling or the power of a larger car. On a test drive, assess acceleration, cornering and braking within legal limits.
- Condition and history: Weigh mileage alongside maintenance records, signs of neglect and any performance modifications. A model’s reputation or ranking score cannot establish that an individual car is mechanically sound.
- Full purchase cost: Compare local asking prices alongside mileage, trim, condition, taxes, fees and likely repair needs. Published ranking averages are reference points, not a substitute for that calculation.
- Ownership costs: Get insurance quotes and consider tire and brake needs. If a certified pre-owned (CPO) car costs more, decide whether its inspection and warranty coverage justify the difference; confirm the specific vehicle’s coverage and terms.
What to check before buying
Kelley Blue Book advises avoiding very high-mileage or heavily modified cars and recommends having a mechanic or inspection service assess a non-CPO vehicle. An independent pre-purchase inspection can help identify issues that a short drive or a clean-looking listing will not reveal.
- Review the records. Look for maintenance history and investigate gaps or signs of deferred work. For an older C6 Corvette in particular, Edmunds emphasizes the importance of maintenance records.
- Inspect the car’s condition. Ask about modifications and check for signs of neglect. Do not infer sound mechanical condition from a ranking, model reputation or seller description.
- Test it as you would use it. Evaluate acceleration, cornering and braking safely and within legal limits. If it will be a daily driver, try uneven pavement and assess driving position, clutch and gearbox smoothness, and predictable brake operation.
- Confirm the deal. Compare the asking price with other local examples of the same year and trim, then account for condition, taxes, fees and expected repairs before deciding whether it fits your budget.
For context rather than as a promise of results, Car and Driver describes the 2024 GR86 this way: “The 2024 Toyota GR86 turns every day into an autocross day thanks to its playful chassis and easy-to-slide rear-wheel drive antics.” That is the publication’s editorial characterization, not a measured test result.
