There is no single best turbo kit for every 5.3 LS build. The right choice depends first on the exact vehicle and model year, then on whether you want a hot-side foundation, a twin-turbo package, or a more complete system. These listings are not automatically interchangeable, and a kit may still need a turbo, fuel-system parts, tuning, or fabrication before the vehicle can run.
Compare the kits by application and what they include
The products below serve different builds. A hot-side kit is not a complete turbo system, an upgrade kit assumes you already own specified parts, and a seller’s power claims apply only to the combinations it describes.
| Product | Stated fitment and layout | Included parts or work | Important exclusions or restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|
| Top Street Performance 1999–2013 GM LS Truck T4 Hot Parts Turbo Kit | 1999–2013 GM LS-based trucks and SUVs with 4.8L, 5.3L, or 6.0L Vortec engines; T4 hot-side | Cast-iron manifolds, four-bolt T4 flange, 2.5-inch two-piece crossover with flex joint, 44mm V-band wastegate flange, and 3-inch downpipe | Hot-side only. Turbocharger, wastegate, cold-side tubing, and intercooler are separate unless bundled. The listing advises checking California emissions compliance where applicable. |
| Speed Engineering 2007–2013 Silverado/Sierra Twin Turbo Kit | 2007–2013 2WD or 4WD Silverado and Sierra applications with 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, or 6.2L engines; twin-turbo | Twin-turbo kit; the product page does not establish every component in the package description summarized here. | Fuel system and tuning are not included. Electric fans are required. The seller states there is no drivetrain warranty and labels the product race-only. |
| On3 Performance T6 upgrade | For customers who already own On3’s T4 GM truck kit; an upgrade rather than a stand-alone system | Additional gate and downpipe work is described. | Some applications require a cold-side upgrade. Confirm the existing kit and application requirements with the seller. |
| Trick Turbo Stage 3 | 1999–2013 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L LS engines | Listing names an intercooler, wastegate, blow-off valve, crossover, downpipe, cold piping, and oil lines. | Pricing starts without a turbo. The seller labels the product off-road use only and says it is not intended for highway use. |
Fitment descriptions and package details are seller statements from product pages accessed October 8, 2026. Prices and stock were not established here, and product configurations or terms can change. Check the current listing and confirm the exact package before ordering.
Which type of kit fits your build?
Choose a hot-side kit if you are assembling the rest of the system
The Top Street Performance kit is the clearest match among these examples for a 1999–2013 GM LS truck or SUV when you want the exhaust-side plumbing and are prepared to source the remaining components. Its T4 flange and listed manifold, crossover, and downpipe dimensions describe the hot side—not a ready-to-run turbo system. Verify clearance and fitment for the specific vehicle, drivetrain, and engine configuration before purchase.

Consider the twin-turbo package only for the stated Silverado/Sierra years
Speed Engineering lists its twin-turbo kit for 2007–2013 Silverado and Sierra models, in both 2WD and 4WD, with the engine options shown in the table. The required electric fans and the lack of included fuel system and tuning affect the rest of the build. The seller’s race-only designation is also a significant limitation, not a minor package detail.
Treat an upgrade kit as dependent on the existing kit
On3’s T6 offering is expressly an upgrade for an owner of the vendor’s T4 GM truck kit. It should not be compared with a complete stand-alone package without accounting for the parts already on the vehicle and the additional gate, downpipe, or possible cold-side work described by the seller.

Check the full component list on a more inclusive listing
Trick Turbo’s Stage 3 listing names substantially more system components than a hot-side-only offering, including an intercooler and cold piping. However, it starts without a turbo, and the seller’s off-road-only notice rules it out for buyers seeking a kit represented as highway-use equipment. “More included” does not mean complete or street-legal.
What else should you plan for besides the kit?
A turbo kit listing does not by itself establish that the vehicle has everything needed for a safe, functioning build. Speed Engineering explicitly says its kit does not include a fuel system or tuning; Top Street Performance’s hot-side listing excludes key turbo and charge-air components unless they are bundled. Before buying, identify what the exact package supplies and what the rest of your build must provide.

- Fuel delivery and calibration: Confirm the fuel-system parts and engine tuning required for your engine, turbo configuration, and intended use. The cited material does not specify a universal injector, pump, or calibration requirement for every 5.3L build.
- Turbo and charge-air components: Check whether the turbocharger, wastegate, blow-off valve, intercooler, cold-side piping, and oil plumbing are included. Do not infer inclusion from the phrase “turbo kit.”
- Vehicle-specific fitment: Verify year, make, model, engine, 2WD or 4WD configuration, and swap clearances. A product listing’s broad engine range does not guarantee fit in every chassis or modified setup.
- Installation work: Ask what fabrication, fan changes, gate or downpipe work, and other modifications are needed for your particular application. The Speed Engineering kit requires electric fans; On3 describes additional gate and downpipe work for its upgrade.
- Warranty and use: Read the seller’s warranty terms and use restrictions alongside the parts list. Speed Engineering states that its kit has no drivetrain warranty; its race-only notice and Trick Turbo’s off-road-only notice should be treated as material conditions.
How to interpret the advertised power figures
Speed Engineering reports the following results from its own dyno combinations. The product page does not state a publication year for these figures. They are vendor-reported examples—not independent, standardized comparisons, guarantees, or predictions for a 5.3L engine.
| Vendor-reported combination | Reported result | What the figure does—and does not—show |
|---|---|---|
| Stock 6.0L LQ4 with a 224 camshaft | 495 rear-wheel horsepower at 5 psi | A result reported for that 6.0L and camshaft combination; it does not establish output for a 5.3L. |
| 4.8L with a 224 cam swap | 710 rear-wheel horsepower at 18 psi | A result reported for that 4.8L combination, not a prediction for another engine or build. |
| Built 6.0L with heads and cam | 750 rear-wheel horsepower at 15 psi; 800 rear-wheel horsepower at 18 psi | Two vendor-reported results for a built 6.0L combination. They are not directly comparable with other products or configurations. |
Boost pressure alone does not make these combinations equivalent. Engine displacement and build, supporting parts, setup, and test conditions differ; the cited product page does not provide a standardized test across the listed kits. Use the figures as examples of what the seller reports for those specific combinations, not as a target or promise for your engine.

Are these kits legal for street use?
The seller notices identify important restrictions, but they do not decide the law for every vehicle and location. Speed Engineering calls its twin-turbo kit “a RACE ONLY product manufactured and sold for installation on vehicles to be used solely for competition purposes.” Trick Turbo states: “This product is for off-road use only!!! !!! Not intended for highway use!!!” Do not treat either listing as street-use approval. Top Street Performance advises buyers to verify California emissions compliance where applicable. Check current emissions and road-use rules for your jurisdiction and the specific vehicle before purchasing or installing a kit.
