A receiver hitch that fits your vehicle is not the same part as the ball mount that slides into it—and the available manufacturer information does not verify a current list of complete vehicle-mounted hitches under $100. To shop safely on a budget, first confirm your vehicle’s towing limits and receiver fitment, then price the components your setup actually needs. The Draw-Tite ball mounts below are useful examples, not verified under-$100 buys.
What “towing hitch” means when you shop
Shoppers use “hitch” to mean different parts of a towing system. A receiver hitch is the vehicle-mounted assembly. A ball mount is a removable bar that fits into the receiver and holds the trailer ball. The trailer ball engages the trailer coupler.

That distinction matters when comparing prices. A low-cost ball mount is not a complete vehicle hitch, and buying one does not establish that your vehicle has a receiver or is approved to tow.

How to find an affordable hitch that fits
- Check the vehicle’s towing limits. Consult the owner’s manual for maximum towing capacity and any other vehicle-specific restrictions. The vehicle’s limit can be lower than a hitch or accessory rating.
- Look up a receiver by vehicle. Use the vehicle year, make, model, and, where required, trim or sub-model in the hitch maker’s fitment guide. CURT says its application guides use these details and describes custom-fit hitches as designs made for a specific vehicle application. See its selection guidance and trailer hitch information.
- Confirm the receiver opening. A ball mount must match the receiver’s size. The examples below fit different openings: Draw-Tite 2793 fits a 2-inch receiver; Draw-Tite 3594 fits a 1-1/4-inch receiver.
- Choose the ball mount and trailer ball for the trailer. Check receiver size, ball-hole diameter, ball compatibility, and the mount’s rise or drop. Select geometry for the actual vehicle-and-trailer combination rather than assuming a listed rise or drop suits every setup.
- Compare the complete cost and included parts. Check whether the listing includes the pin and clip, and account for any compatible ball, lock, or wiring your setup requires. Verify current price, fitment, and instructions on the seller’s and manufacturer’s pages before buying.
CURT describes multi-fit hitches as an alternative when a custom hitch is unavailable, but fitment and integration can differ. A broad hitch-class or receiver-size chart is not a substitute for checking the specific product application and the vehicle manual.

How to compare ratings without overestimating capacity
A component’s rating does not raise the towing limit of the vehicle or the rest of the system. CURT says capacity is limited by the lowest-rated component and directs owners to the vehicle manual for maximum towing capacity. Compare the vehicle, receiver, ball mount, trailer ball, and other applicable components; use the lowest relevant limit. Do not treat a ball mount’s listed capacity as permission for the vehicle to tow that amount.

The manufacturer figures in the table describe those specific ball mounts. They are not vehicle-specific towing approvals, and a higher figure is not automatically the better choice for your setup.
What to verify before paying
- Vehicle application: Confirm the receiver is listed for your exact vehicle details, not merely that its opening matches a ball mount.
- System limits: Check the owner’s manual and every component rating relevant to the intended load.
- Connection match: Confirm the ball mount’s receiver size and ball-hole diameter work with the receiver and trailer ball.
- Trailer level and clearance: Select rise or drop based on the actual setup; do not rely on a generic fit claim.
- Included hardware and instructions: Check the product listing for pin, clip, ball, and installation details. Resolve conflicting specifications with current manufacturer instructions before purchase.
- Total price: Compare the current cost of the compatible receiver and required accessories, not a ball mount’s price alone.
Can you get a complete vehicle hitch for under $100?
It may depend on the vehicle and current seller pricing, but the manufacturer material cited here does not establish a vehicle-specific receiver assembly currently available below that price. A reliable under-$100 shortlist needs a defined vehicle application and current listings tied to that fitment. Until those are checked, treat the Draw-Tite models as specification examples only—not as verified under-$100 recommendations.
