There is no single best jet boat for every buyer. For a conventional sport-boat layout, compare Yamaha and Scarab by size, seating and payload; for a modular pontoon-style layout, consider the Sea-Doo Switch. The right choice depends on how many people and how much gear you carry, your towing and storage limits, and whether you can get authorized service nearby. The prices below are manufacturer-listed starting or published figures, not guaranteed dealer transaction prices.
Best jet boats to compare by buyer
These are useful starting points, not a performance ranking. Manufacturer specifications and prices help narrow the field, but they do not establish which boat handles, accelerates, or holds up best in real-world use.
Best for a compact pontoon-style layout: 2026 Sea-Doo Switch Compact 130 hp
The Switch Compact is a jet-propelled, pontoon-style boat rather than a conventional sport boat. BRP lists a U.S. starting price of $24,799 for the 2026 Compact 130 hp. Its published specifications include room for five riders, 29 U.S. gallons of fuel, 109 U.S. gallons of storage, and a dry weight of 1,674 pounds. BRP says the trailer is included in MSRP, while transport and preparation are not. The listed warranty is three years on engine and materials and 10 years on structure and hull. Best to compare for a smaller sport-boat footprint: Scarab 165 SE or 165 LX
Scarab’s comparison tool lists the 165 SE and LX at 15 feet 9 inches long, with a 7-foot-1-inch beam, 20-gallon fuel capacity, 850-pound maximum capacity and five-person capacity. Those limits make total passenger-and-gear weight especially important: a five-person rating does not mean five adults plus unrestricted equipment. Best to compare for more capacity in a sport-boat layout: Scarab 195 SE or 195 LX
The 195 SE and LX comparison lists a length of 18 feet 10 inches, an 8-foot beam, 31-gallon fuel capacity, 1,400-pound maximum capacity and eight-person capacity. Best to compare across a range of sport-boat sizes: Yamaha
Yamaha’s current U.S. sport-boat page lists starting figures by length: 18-foot models from $39,999, 20-foot models from $53,599, 22-foot models from $65,099 and 25-foot models from $84,999. Yamaha states that its 22-foot boats have a 10-passenger capacity and its 25-foot models have a 12-passenger capacity. The listed prices are for different model years and use different price bases. They are not directly equivalent, and none should be treated as an out-the-door quote.

A passenger count and a maximum weight capacity are different limits. For the Scarab examples, the weight limit includes people and gear; consult the exact boat’s capacity plate and account for every passenger, cooler, watersports item and other load. Specifications for one trim should not automatically be applied to another.

Choose by use, people and logistics
Start with how you will use the boat
Yamaha and Scarab list sport-boat lineups; Sea-Doo Switch uses a modular pontoon-style layout. Decide which seating and deck arrangement suits your passengers, activities and time on the water. The published sources identify product categories and specifications, but they do not establish that one layout performs better for a particular owner.
Match passenger count to payload
Estimate the number of people you usually carry and their combined weight, then add gear. Do not use passenger capacity alone as the go/no-go measure. Confirm the exact model’s capacity plate and selected equipment, and leave room within the stated limit for the way you actually load the boat.

Check towing, storage and launch access
Before choosing a length or layout, check the exact boat and trailer dimensions, combined towing weight, tow vehicle rating, storage height and launch-site access. Beam can matter for storage and access; the Scarab examples above are 7 feet 1 inch and 8 feet wide. Also consider bridge or tower clearance on your routes. The available figures do not provide comparable trailer dimensions or complete tow-ready weights for every option, so request them for the exact configuration rather than inferring them from dry boat weight.
Consider fuel and power without assuming economy
Published fuel capacity helps you compare tank size, not how far a boat will travel on a tank. Scarab’s cited 165 and 195 comparisons list 20- and 31-gallon capacities, respectively; the Switch Compact lists 29 U.S. gallons. No comparable fuel-consumption test is established for these models, so do not infer operating range or fuel cost from capacity alone. Ask for the exact engine configuration and plan around your expected use.

Yamaha’s figures are manufacturer-listed starting prices, Scarab’s are 2026 NAP figures, and BRP identifies the Switch price as a U.S. MSRP with the trailer included but transport and preparation excluded. - Choose a specific model year and trim, not just a brand or boat length.
- Ask a nearby authorized dealer for a written quote that identifies the boat, included trailer and equipment, transport, preparation, dealer fees, taxes and other charges.
- Confirm warranty coverage and service availability for that configuration and your location.
- If practical, arrange an in-person inspection or demonstration before committing; a listing page cannot substitute for seeing the specific boat and layout.
Check dealer and service access before buying
Nearby authorized support is part of choosing a boat, not an afterthought. Plan for wearable life jackets
The U.S. Coast Guard says recreational vessels must carry a U.S. Coast Guard-approved wearable PFD in good, serviceable condition and of an appropriate size for each person onboard. Check the label, wearer weight and chest size, intended activity and ready access.
