There is no single tire size or tire model that fits every Audi A3. Before shopping, check the tire placard on your car’s driver-door area and use your VIN to find the applicable owner’s manual. Then choose a tire category for your climate and driving priorities, and compare specific models only in the correct size and rating.
How to find tires that fit your Audi A3
Start with the vehicle, not a generic A3 size chart. Audi’s online manual portal lets owners select the applicable manual by VIN for Audi models from model year 2008 onward: Audi owner’s manual portal. Check that manual and the tire placard on your specific car before ordering.
Fitment can vary by model year, trim, wheel package, market, and load or speed rating. For example, Michelin’s Germany-market A3 Sportback lookup lists sizes including 205/55 R16, 225/45 R17, 225/40 R18, and 235/35 R19. Those are examples from that manufacturer lookup, not a universal list for every A3 or a recommendation for North American vehicles: Michelin Germany A3 Sportback lookup.
- Match the tire size printed on your placard or specified in the VIN-matched manual.
- Confirm the required load index and speed rating; do not assume a similar-looking tire is an acceptable substitute.
- Ask a tire professional to verify any proposed change in size or rating and whether it requires a different pressure.
- Check that the selected wheel and tire combination is compatible with your car’s configuration.
Audi’s US 2027 service reference search result surfaced 8Y examples including 225/45 R17 91H all-season, 225/40 R18 all-season or performance variants, and 235/35 R19 performance tires. Because the reference could not be retrieved directly and its figures are configuration-specific, treat these only as examples to verify—not as a substitute for the placard: Audi US 2027 service reference.

Choose a tire category for your climate and priorities
Audi describes three broad categories: all-season, winter, and ultra-high-performance summer tires. The right category depends on the conditions you regularly drive in—not simply the A3 badge. Audi’s category descriptions are guidance, not comparative tests of individual tire models: Audi of America tire guidance.
All-season tires for mixed conditions
All-season tires are a practical choice for drivers who want one set for varied conditions and do not regularly face sustained severe winter weather. Audi describes its high-performance all-season category as balancing comfort, handling, quietness, tread life, and some snow traction. That does not make an all-season tire equivalent to a dedicated winter tire in persistent cold, snow, or ice.

- PROTECTION FUNCTION:The Audi specific tire screw cap is suitable for all Audi models and can effectively protect the wheel screws from rusting, prevent dust from entering the screws, and affect the service life of the tires. Prevent rust from causing disassembly trouble.
- BEAUTIFUL:Decorate your car's exterior to prevent screws from leaking out, making your car stand out from the crowd.
- MATERIAL:This car tire screw protection cap is made of polypropylene material, which has excellent impact resistance and is not easy to break. Excellent high and low temperature resistance, even under harsh conditions such as rain, snow, and sunlight, it is not easy to fade or rust.
- SIMPLE INSTALLATION:When installing, simply clean the tire screws before installation to keep them clean, and then press the nut cover directly onto the bolt. Provide more protection for your wheel nuts. The extraction clip is easy to replace and disassemble, difficult to disassemble by hand, and has good anti-theft performance.
- PACKING DETAILS:You will receive 20 Audi screw protection caps, four anti-theft screw caps, and one extraction clip.
Winter tires for sustained cold and snow
Choose dedicated winter tires if your winters regularly bring cold temperatures, snow, or slush and you need traction in those conditions. Audi says its winter tire compounds are designed to remain pliable below 45°F, supporting grip in cold weather. That is Audi’s description of its winter category, not a claim that every winter tire performs identically or that a temperature alone determines when to change tires.
Summer tires for warm-weather performance
Ultra-high-performance summer tires are the category to consider when warm-weather handling and performance take priority. They are not a year-round answer where cold weather or snow is a regular concern. Confirm the exact tire’s operating guidance and the vehicle’s approved fitment before buying.

Compare specific models on the evidence that matters
Once you have the correct size and category, compare candidate tires in that exact size. Look for independent test data for the specific model and size when available; broad brand reputation or a manufacturer category description cannot establish which tire will stop or handle best on your A3.
- Wet braking and hydroplaning resistance: seek comparable wet-road test results. Audi discusses wet traction and water displacement in its category guidance, but those descriptions are not head-to-head results.
- Snow and cold performance: distinguish occasional light-snow capability from performance intended for sustained cold, snow, and ice.
- Comfort and noise: consider how the tire’s ride and road noise match your usual routes and expectations.
- Handling and tread life: weigh the trade-off between responsive feel and expected wear rather than assuming one tire excels at both.
- Total purchase value: compare installed price, warranty, local availability, and any road-hazard coverage. Audi describes tire-center installation and coverage; confirm current local eligibility and terms with the seller.
What Audi Original markings mean
Audi recommends Audi Original Tires, developed with leading tire manufacturers for Audi vehicles. Audi says to look for markings such as R0 or RE0, and AO on older vehicles. Audi of America states: “Audi always recommends utilizing Audi Original Tires identified by a marking on the sidewall.” This is the manufacturer’s recommendation; it does not establish that an Audi-marked tire is a universal winner over every non-Audi-marked alternative.

Use the right tire pressure for your configuration
Do not transfer a pressure figure from another A3, tire size, or online fitment result. Audi’s service reference lists different pressures for different sizes and configurations under normal-load conditions. Michelin’s Germany lookup also warns that pressure may need to change for an alternate size and that listed load or speed ratings may differ slightly from the vehicle’s original label. Follow the placard and applicable manual for your car and load conditions; have a qualified tire professional confirm any alternate-size setup.
When to replace the tires
Audi says tire tread is worn out as depth approaches 2/32 inch, and describes checking tread with a gauge or a quarter. Treat that as a tread-depth cue, not a complete condition assessment: have tires inspected for damage and aging as well as remaining tread.
