The right choice depends on riding posture, ease of getting on and off, pedal position, suspension, tires, carrying needs, and whether you want electric assist. The models below illustrate distinct design priorities; the specifications are manufacturer claims, not results from comparative riding tests.
How to compare recumbent trikes
Start with your body, routes, and transport constraints rather than a maker’s “comfort” or “speed” label. Seat height and angle affect posture and access; pedal position changes the relationship between your legs and torso. Suspension and tire volume matter in the context of the surfaces you ride, but specifications alone cannot establish which trike will feel best to you.
- Access and visibility: Consider how easily you can sit down, stand up, and see traffic from the seat. Higher, more upright designs may appeal to riders prioritizing access and a raised view.
- Fit and riding position: Compare seat angle and pedal position together. A lower, flatter posture is a different setup from a higher seat with pedals positioned lower; neither is automatically more comfortable for every rider.
- Road surface: Check the suspension arrangement and tire volume against your usual routes. Comfort depends on the rider and surface as well as the hardware.
- Load: Compare the maker’s maximum payload with the combined rider and cargo load, and confirm luggage capacity separately where stated.
- Storage and transport: Distinguish a folding main frame from a folding seat, removable wheels, or a trike that separates into pieces. Check the actual dimensions against your vehicle and storage space.
- Assist and local rules: For an electric model, confirm the configured motor and battery, local legal classification, and the conditions behind any range figure.
A test ride, where available, is especially useful for judging seat comfort, steering, and fit—preferences that a specification sheet cannot settle.

Best fit by riding priority
For a flatter, performance-oriented posture: Scorpion fs 26
HP Velotechnik describes the Scorpion fs 26 as a full-suspension speed trike. Its flat seat and high pedal position make it a useful example for riders considering a sportier layout, while the integrated all-wheel suspension distinguishes it from the rigid-frame Gekko 26. “Speed” is the manufacturer’s positioning: the available specifications do not establish that it is faster than another trike in comparable riding conditions.
For a higher seat and more upright posture: Scorpion plus 26
The Scorpion plus 26 pairs a high, upright position with low pedals and an open frame. Those features may be worth considering if access and a raised view matter to you. They do not prove that the model will be more comfortable for every rider, so assess fit and entry in person if possible. Its stated payload is 150 kg (330 lb), and its stated luggage capacity is up to 63 kg (139 lb).

- Ergonomic recumbent seating design reduces strain and supports long, comfortable rides
- Electric assist system helps reduce effort and provides smooth riding support on various terrains
- Stable 3-wheel tadpole structure ensures better balance, safety, and riding control
- Durable frame construction designed for consistent daily use and long-term reliability
- Ideal for commuting, leisure riding, and light exercise with a relaxed riding posture
For a simpler raised-seat setup: Gekko 26
HP Velotechnik positions the Gekko 26 as an affordable starter trike. The product page lists a raised seat, rigid frame, fixed component specification, hydraulic disc brakes, adjustable boom, and a 150 kg (331 lb) maximum payload. Its seat backrest folds and its front wheels can be removed, but there is no main-frame folding hinge. A current price is not established here, so check a local dealer listing before comparing costs.
For upright electric assistance: Delta tx
The Delta tx is a distinct electric, upright design rather than a non-electric trike with assist as an optional afterthought: HP Velotechnik lists electric drive as standard. Other stated features include a low step-through, high and steplessly adjustable seat, voluminous tires on 20-inch wheels, and rear suspension. The company also lists an optional fully automatic gear shift.

In its 2025/2026 model-year announcement, HP Velotechnik introduced an under-seat steering option for the start of the 2026 cycling season. The maker says the rider’s hands sit alongside the body and that the right handlebar side folds away to ease access. It announced a starting price of €6,949 (with 19% VAT) or US$8,789 (excluding local sales tax if applicable). Those are dated announcement prices for that version, not guaranteed current dealer prices. HP Velotechnik called the steering system “an even more relaxed riding posture”; that is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independent comfort finding. See the 2025/2026 Delta tx announcement.
Electric range: read the conditions, not just the number
Range is not a fixed property of an e-trike. HP Velotechnik’s Delta tx page describes range conditions in terms of assist mode, flat terrain, a specified speed and temperature, system weight, battery, and gearing. A figure under those conditions should not be treated as a promise for hilly routes, different weather, another load, or a different setup. Check the exact configuration and test assumptions on the Delta tx product page before estimating whether it suits your trips.

Check the model and market before buying
Prices, component configurations, and availability can vary by model year and market. Confirm the current specification with a dealer, particularly payload, included equipment, electric system, and transport dimensions. The Catrike site provides model, feature, dealer, and electric-trike navigation, while TerraTrike identifies Spyder in its Performance category and Rogue in its Leisure category. The detailed specifications available for those pages are not sufficient here to rank them fairly against the HP Velotechnik examples. Start with the makers’ pages for Catrike, TerraTrike Performance, and TerraTrike Leisure, then compare current, similarly configured models.
