The Uniden R8 and Escort MAX 360c MKII are documented options for drivers dealing with blind-spot monitoring (BSM) alerts, but neither is proven to eliminate them. The right choice depends on your usual routes, local enforcement bands, the detector’s model-specific settings and firmware, and how much alert noise you will tolerate. Filtering can reduce nuisance alerts; aggressive filtering can also hide or delay legitimate radar warnings.
Why blind-spot monitoring triggers radar-detector alerts
A detector’s “false alert” often comes from a real radio-frequency signal that is not speed enforcement—not necessarily from a malfunction. BSM and lane-assistance systems can emit signals in K band, which overlaps with frequencies used by some enforcement radar. Signals vary by vehicle, so one car may trigger an alert while another does not. Other possible sources include retail door sensors, traffic-monitoring sensors, and some electronics in your own vehicle. Uniden describes these sources and alert behavior.
There is no established representative figure for how often BSM systems trigger alerts across drivers, vehicles, or regions. Treat an alert as information to assess, not proof that a police radar source is present—or proof that no enforcement source is present.
What filtering can—and cannot—do
K-band filtering and notches
Band filtering and frequency notches target signals or ranges associated with recurring nuisance alerts. They are model- and firmware-specific, and a narrow notch is not a universal BSM mute. Because legitimate K-band enforcement may occupy nearby frequencies, filtering too broadly—or increasing suppression without testing—can reduce detection or delay an alert.

- Everything You Need - The Cobra RAD 480i radar detector comes with a 12V vehicle power cord, suction cup car windshield mount, and a hook and loop fastener for dash mounting, for wherever the road takes you.
GPS learning and lockouts
GPS-based learning or lockouts are suited to recurring signals at fixed places, such as automatic doors. They are different from filtering emissions coming from moving vehicles: a location lockout cannot reliably solve a BSM alert that follows a car along the road.
Speed-based sensitivity
Speed-based sensitivity controls can adjust how the detector behaves as your driving speed changes. This is another setting to compare, not a guarantee that BSM alerts will disappear. Avoid disabling an entire band unless you have confirmed that it is not used for enforcement where you drive.

How the Uniden R8 and Escort MAX 360c MKII compare
| Feature | Uniden R8 | Escort MAX 360c MKII |
|---|---|---|
| Documented filtering controls | Uniden lists adjustable settings and K-band filtering controls; its support guidance identifies the R8 as compatible with custom K blocks. Uniden R8 product page and Uniden support guidance. | Escort lists false-alert filtering, and its support page describes K-notch behavior. Escort product page and Escort K-notch support page. |
| GPS and directional cues | Uniden lists GPS Auto Mute Memory, dual antennas, and directional arrows on the R8 product page. | The cited product and support pages establish false-alert filtering and notch support; they do not establish comparable GPS-learning or directional-feature details here. |
| Compatibility detail | Custom K blocks are supported on the R8, according to Uniden’s support guidance; consult the current manual for operation. | Escort lists MAX 360c MKII K Notch support at firmware 1.6. Verify the exact model and firmware before relying on the setting. |
| BSM rejection performance | Not independently established by the cited sources. | Not independently established by the cited sources. |
These documented controls make both models worth comparing for drivers who want filtering options. They do not establish a universal winner or prove either detector will completely suppress BSM alerts. Manufacturer feature descriptions are not independent performance tests.
How to choose based on your driving
- For recurring alerts at fixed locations: prioritize GPS learning or lockouts, which address stationary sources such as store doors.
- For alerts that appear around particular cars: look for supported, adjustable frequency filtering, but keep the setting narrow and verify what your exact detector supports.
- For alert context: consider directional information, alert relevance on your ordinary routes, speed-based controls, and how easily you can recognize and manage alerts.
- For long-term usability: check firmware support and the setup burden, not just the number of filtering features advertised.
- For local use: confirm detector legality and enforcement bands in the places where you drive. Those rules and frequencies vary by jurisdiction.
Quietness alone is a poor measure of quality. A detector that suppresses more alerts may also suppress useful information; what matters is whether it reduces nuisance signals without making legitimate alerts harder to notice.

How to set up filtering without overdoing it
For a recurring weak K-band alert on the Uniden R8
- Record the alert’s frequency and strength when it occurs. Do not assume every K-band alert is BSM.
- Check the current R8 manual and Uniden’s custom K-block guidance for the supported controls.
- Start with a weak custom K block for the recurring signal, as Uniden recommends, rather than immediately applying a broad suppression.
- Test the setting on your normal routes and watch for changes in alerts. Increase filtering only cautiously; legitimate local K-band radar can fall in the same range.
This is setup guidance, not a guarantee of detection performance. If the alert is not clearly recurring or its frequency is uncertain, avoid using a narrow block based on a guess.
For K Notch on the Escort MAX 360c MKII
- Confirm that the detector is the MAX 360c MKII and check its installed firmware. Escort’s support page lists K Notch for this model at firmware 1.6.
- Read Escort’s current K-notch instructions and confirm that the alert pattern matches the frequency range the notch addresses.
- Apply only the relevant notch, then observe the detector on familiar routes. Do not treat a notch as a blanket BSM filter or disable broader bands without checking local enforcement use.
Settings differ across models and can change with firmware. If a menu or option does not match these descriptions, use the current manual and manufacturer support for your exact unit rather than assuming another model’s instructions apply.

How to judge filtering claims and test results
Ask whether a claim describes a feature, a manufacturer’s setup recommendation, or an independent comparison. A feature listing tells you what controls a product offers; it does not show how often those controls reject BSM alerts in varied traffic and enforcement conditions.
Car and Driver’s 2026 comparison assigns 30 points to filtering and alert relevance. Its stated real-world alert route is 37.5 miles, driven three times on separate days, with seven detectors tested in specified operating modes. Those figures describe that publication’s test design—not a population statistic, a success rate, or a guarantee for your routes. See Car and Driver’s 2026 radar-detector comparison for its methodology and results.
