The 2025 Lexus RX is the best Lexus for most U.S. buyers. It offers the broadest balance of premium comfort, everyday SUV usefulness, and powertrain choice. The compact NX is the better fit for urban drivers, the TX is the family pick for usable three-row seating, and the GX is the clear winner for serious off-road driving.
This ranking covers the U.S. 2025 model year and is editorial and use-case based, not the result of hands-on testing. The right choice depends more on whether you need a third row, trail hardware, a sedan body, or enthusiast performance than on the order alone.
2025 Lexus models ranked at a glance
| Rank | Model | Best for | Why it ranks here |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Lexus RX | Most luxury-SUV buyers | The broadest combination of comfort, utility, and powertrain choice. |
| 2 | Lexus NX | Compact-SUV shoppers | Smaller and easier to maneuver than the RX while offering gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in-hybrid choices. |
| 3 | Lexus TX | Families needing three rows | The clearest Lexus answer for usable three-row passenger space. |
| 4 | Lexus GX | Off-road driving and towing | The most capable trail-oriented Lexus SUV, although its hardware is more specialized for daily commuting. |
| 5 | Lexus ES | Traditional luxury-sedan buyers | A comfort-focused sedan alternative for shoppers who do not need SUV cargo flexibility. |
| 6 | Lexus IS 500 | V8 performance | A rare naturally aspirated V8 sedan with strong enthusiast appeal. |
| 7 | Lexus LC 500 and LC 500h | Grand touring and design | The most special-occasion Lexus, but not the most practical or affordable choice. |
| 8 | Lexus LX | Flagship luxury and off-road capability | Impressive equipment and status, but more SUV than most buyers need. |
| 9 | Lexus LS | Full-size flagship-sedan buyers | A traditional luxury sedan for a narrow audience in an SUV-dominated market. |
| 10 | Lexus RC and RC F | Coupe enthusiasts and collectors | A specialist end-of-cycle purchase because both nameplates end after the 2025 model year. |
This is an editorial, use-case-based ranking for the U.S. 2025 model year, not a hands-on test or a claim that the first-ranked Lexus is best for every driver. The ranking weighs versatility first, then gives each specialist model credit for the job it is designed to do. Pricing, incentives, inventory, equipment, and availability can vary by dealer, state, trim, and production timing.

The 2025 Lexus RX is the best overall Lexus because it has the least specialized mission. It is a premium SUV with enough passenger and cargo usefulness for ordinary family life, a more manageable footprint than the largest Lexus SUVs, and three distinct powertrain directions: the gasoline RX 350, hybrid RX 350h, and plug-in-hybrid RX 450h+.
The RX 450h+ is listed with an EPA-estimated 37 miles of all-electric range. That figure is not a promise of real-world range in every climate or driving condition, but it gives buyers who can charge regularly a meaningful alternative to both a conventional gasoline SUV and a non-plug-in hybrid. The RX range also offers upscale equipment such as an available 14-inch touchscreen and premium interior features.
The RX ranks ahead of the NX because it is a more broadly useful size for small families and long-distance travel. It ranks ahead of the TX because it is easier to live with when three rows are unnecessary. It ranks ahead of the GX because most owners will spend more time on pavement than on trails.
Main tradeoff: The RX is not the right Lexus for serious off-road hardware or a genuine third row. Choose the GX for trail capability and the TX for family seating.

Best for: Urban drivers, downsizers, efficiency-minded buyers, and shoppers who want a smaller luxury SUV.
The NX gives buyers much of the RX formula in a more compact package. Its four available powertrain paths are the NX 250, NX 350, NX 350h, and NX 450h+. That range includes gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in-hybrid choices, which is unusually useful for shoppers who want to choose their operating priorities without changing vehicle classes.
Standard or available equipment includes a 9.8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, parking assist with automatic braking, and a power rear door. Those features make the NX a sensible daily driver for people who value easy technology and a smaller exterior footprint.
The 2025 NX is also the model in this comparison with an IIHS Top Safety Pick designation under the institute’s 2025 criteria. That is a meaningful safety credential, but it should not be interpreted as proof that every Lexus has the same crash-test result, that every trim has identical equipment, or that an award eliminates the need to check current test data.
Main tradeoff: The NX’s smaller body and cabin are less suitable than the RX or TX for several adults, bulky cargo, or frequent long-distance family trips. If you are choosing between the NX and RX, measure the rear seat and cargo area with your actual passengers and gear rather than assuming the difference is only cosmetic.
3. 2025 Lexus TX: Best Lexus for three-row families
Best for: Families, carpooling, road trips, and buyers who need usable third-row seating.
The TX is Lexus’s dedicated three-row family SUV. Lexus describes the 2025 TX as accommodating up to seven passengers and offers three main powertrain directions: the TX 350, TX 500h F SPORT Performance, and TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid.

The TX 350 uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine rated at 275 horsepower. The TX 500h F SPORT Performance is rated at 366 net combined horsepower. The TX 550h+ has a manufacturer-estimated 33 miles of pure-electric driving. That estimate comes from the manufacturer and should not be compared directly with the RX 450h+’s EPA estimate as though the testing standards were identical.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The TX ranks third because it solves a specific problem better than the RX or NX: carrying a larger family without treating the third row as an emergency-only perch. Its larger size is also the reason it falls behind those models for buyers who do not need the extra seating.
For plug-in-hybrid shoppers, the TX 550h+ makes the most sense when home or workplace charging is convenient and daily driving often fits within its electric range. Buyers who do not plan to charge should compare the conventional and hybrid versions instead of paying for plug-in capability they will rarely use.
Main tradeoff: The TX is larger and less maneuverable than the RX and NX. Its family-first design is an advantage for passenger duty but unnecessary bulk for a couple or solo commuter.
4. 2025 Lexus GX: Best Lexus for off-road driving
Best for: Trail driving, overlanding, towing, outdoor recreation, and buyers who want traditional off-road architecture with a luxury interior.
The GX ranks fourth overall but first for serious off-road use. That distinction matters: it is not less capable than the RX, NX, or TX. It is simply more specialized. The GX uses Lexus’s GA-F ladder-frame platform, has full-time four-wheel-drive hardware, and is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 producing 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque.
Depending on configuration, towing capacity is listed above 9,000 pounds. Buyers should verify the exact rating for the selected grade and equipment rather than applying the maximum figure to every GX.
The 2025 GX is offered in six grades: Premium, Premium+, Luxury, Luxury+, Overtrail, and Overtrail+. Lexus says the Overtrail grades receive a standard one-inch suspension lift for 2025. Those grades are the logical direction for buyers whose priorities include ground clearance and trail equipment. Premium or Premium+ are more rational starting points for a GX that will spend most of its time commuting, carrying family members, and towing occasionally.
Main tradeoff: The body-on-frame, off-road-oriented design is likely to feel less carlike and less efficient than the RX or NX on paved roads. If you rarely leave pavement and do not need the GX’s towing or trail hardware, the RX is probably a better daily-use purchase.
Accessory note: Outdoor use makes interior protection particularly practical. Lexus lists 2025 Lexus GX all-weather floor liners, but buyers must verify the model year, seating configuration, and fastener compatibility before ordering. The liners are designed for the applicable model and model year, must be secured with their fasteners, and should not be stacked over another liner or mat. Live marketplace stock, price, and listing eligibility should be checked separately.
For trail and cargo planning, Lexus also documents categories such as roof racks, recovery kits, compressors, coolers, cargo cases, and other outdoor equipment through its Genuine Accessories and Associated Accessory Products information. Lexus GX accessories should be matched to the exact roof configuration, load limits, and intended use; a generic product should not be assumed to fit every 2025 GX.

5. 2025 Lexus ES: Best traditional luxury-sedan value proposition
Best for: Buyers who prefer a quiet, conventional luxury sedan and do not need SUV cargo flexibility.
The ES remains part of the 2025 U.S. Lexus lineup, including hybrid availability. It is the sensible sedan alternative for buyers who value a lower driving position, a traditional trunk, and a comfort-oriented ownership brief over the cargo height and flexible loading of an SUV.

The ES ranks below the four leading SUVs largely because the broader market has shifted toward crossover and SUV utility. That is not a criticism of the ES’s mission. A driver who primarily carries one or two people and prefers a sedan may find the ES more satisfying than an RX, particularly if a conventional trunk and sedan ride are more important than maximum cargo versatility.
Main tradeoff: The ES cannot provide a third row, SUV-style cargo access, or the GX’s trail and towing hardware. It is a focused comfort sedan, not an all-purpose family vehicle.
6. 2025 Lexus IS 500: Best V8 performance sedan
Best for: Enthusiasts who want a compact luxury sedan with a naturally aspirated V8.
The IS 500 F SPORT Performance is the standout performance sedan in the 2025 Lexus range. Its naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 produces 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. Lexus pairs it with rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic transmission.
The IS 500 earns this ranking because of its character, not because it is the most rational Lexus. A naturally aspirated V8 delivers a different ownership experience from the turbocharged and electrified powertrains found elsewhere in the lineup, and the compact sedan body makes it more engaging for buyers who prioritize driving over passenger and cargo capacity.
Main tradeoff: The smaller cabin and sedan body are less practical than the RX or TX. It is also a specialist choice for people who actively want V8 performance; buyers who prioritize efficiency, quiet commuting, or family utility should look elsewhere in the lineup.
7. 2025 Lexus LC 500 and LC 500h: Best grand-tourer
Best for: Buyers seeking a distinctive coupe or convertible for style, long-distance touring, and special-occasion driving.
The LC is arguably the most emotionally distinctive Lexus. The 2025 lineup includes the LC 500, LC 500h, and LC 500 Convertible. Lexus announced additional structural bracing and other updates for 2025, and a Bespoke Build option allows customers to customize selected performance and appearance equipment.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe LC earns a high specialist ranking because it delivers something the SUVs and sedans do not: a dramatic, low-slung grand-touring experience with coupe or convertible body styles. It is a choice made as much for design and occasion as for transportation.

- WOOD CAR FRESHENERS: Drift car air fresheners are made to uproot your typical air freshener. We've combined sophisticated, functional design with real, designer and luxury grade scents.
- MADE IN THE USA: Our wood freshener is made right here in the USA from sustainably sourced wood, and magnetized to fit perfectly on your car visor with our metal clip. Our Teak scent has notes of teakwood, amber and cedar atlas.
- LONG LASTING: Crafted with our natural essential and fragrance oil blends to deliver a great scent free of harmful chemicals all day. Looks good, smells good, all good.
- SIMPLE DESIGN: Attach metal clip to visor so the ledge faces down when closed. Open one side of bag until scent dissipates and freshener doesn't have any visible oil on surface. Attach the scent block to the clip, it will magnetically snap in, make sure there is no overhang on either side of the clip.
- Enjoy fresh scent for up to 30 days with each freshener. Actual scent duration will vary based on ambient temperature and conditions inside the vehicle.
Main tradeoff: The two-door layout, limited rear-seat utility, cargo constraints, and likely higher ownership cost make the LC a poor default recommendation. It is best as a second or special-use vehicle, not as the answer for a buyer who needs easy rear-seat access or maximum practicality.
8. 2025 Lexus LX: Best flagship luxury SUV
Best for: Buyers who want maximum Lexus SUV prestige, premium appointments, and serious off-road capability.
The LX is the flagship SUV, but that does not make it the best Lexus for most shoppers. It combines luxury positioning with traditional off-road capability, and the 2025 LX 700h Overtrail material documents equipment including front and rear locking differentials, 33-inch all-terrain tires, a front skid plate, and a 2,400-watt AC inverter.
Recommended Free Tools
Those features make the LX a compelling answer for a buyer who specifically wants flagship presence and premium off-road equipment in the same vehicle. They also explain its low overall ranking: most buyers can obtain the relevant everyday utility more efficiently with an RX or TX, or obtain the core trail mission with a GX.
Main tradeoff: The LX’s size, price, and specialized equipment are difficult to justify if the vehicle will mainly handle commuting, school runs, and shopping. Compare it with the GX if capability matters, and with the RX or TX if daily usability matters more.
9. 2025 Lexus LS: Best traditional flagship sedan
Best for: Buyers who specifically want a full-size flagship sedan.
The LS remains part of the 2025 Lexus lineup, including an LS 500h hybrid variant. It provides the traditional flagship-sedan formula: a large, formal cabin, a lower driving position than an SUV, and a focus on quiet luxury rather than trail capability or maximum cargo flexibility.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The LS ranks ninth because it serves a narrower audience than the RX, NX, TX, or ES. The shift toward SUVs has reduced the practical appeal of a large sedan for many buyers, even though a sedan remains the right format for shoppers who prefer its proportions, ride position, and conventional trunk.
Main tradeoff: The LS lacks SUV cargo flexibility and a higher seating position. Buyers who want flagship luxury but prefer an SUV should compare it with the LX; buyers who simply want a comfortable Lexus sedan should also consider the ES.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.10. 2025 Lexus RC and RC F: Specialist end-of-cycle choice
Best for: Buyers who specifically want a Lexus coupe and accept discontinued-nameplate status.
The RC and RC F deserve a special mention rather than a mainstream recommendation. Lexus announced that both nameplates would be discontinued at the conclusion of the 2025 model year. The RC F was offered as a Final Edition, which may make these cars especially relevant to collectors and enthusiasts who want a closing chapter in Lexus coupe history.
Best Value
- A special combination of leather, white florals, cool metallics, and fresh, powdery musk.
- FRESHEN YOUR LIFE. Make your car Invisibly Fresh with LITTLE TREES Vent Wrap – an air freshener that blends in with a scent that stands out
- INVISIBLY FRESH AIR FRESHENER. The slim design allows air to flow freely while providing a consistent, pleasant scent
- DISCREET DESIGN BLENDS INTO CAR VENTS. Slides onto an auto vent blade for a seamless and hidden look; notice the scent, not the air freshener
- STEDISCENT TECHNOLOGY. With up to 20 days of steady fragrance per Vent Wrap, a 4-pack provides up to 80 days of fragrance
The end-of-cycle status does not make an RC or RC F a bad car. It does mean buyers should think more carefully about remaining inventory, future model continuity, parts planning, resale behavior, and whether they want a vehicle that no longer has a continuing nameplate in the lineup.
Main tradeoff: Availability will become more dependent on remaining stock, and the ownership decision is more specialized than choosing a continuing model such as the RX, NX, TX, or GX.
How to choose the right 2025 Lexus
- Choose the RX if you want the safest general recommendation. It balances luxury-SUV comfort, everyday utility, and gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in-hybrid powertrains.
- Choose the NX if exterior size matters. It is the better fit for urban parking, downsizing, or buyers who want a compact SUV without giving up hybrid and plug-in-hybrid options.
- Choose the TX if you regularly use three rows. Do not buy the larger SUV merely for an occasional third-row need; do buy it if family, carpool, or road-trip passengers use that row often.
- Choose the GX if trails, towing, or overlanding are central. Its ladder-frame platform and available Overtrail equipment justify the compromise for the right owner.
- Choose the ES or LS if you specifically prefer sedans. The ES is the more broadly sensible traditional sedan; the LS is the full-size flagship choice.
- Choose the IS 500 if the V8 is the reason you are shopping. Its value is in its engine character and performance-sedan identity, not maximum practicality.
- Choose the LC if design and grand touring matter more than utility. It is the emotional, special-occasion choice.
- Choose the RC or RC F only after accepting the discontinuation. Remaining inventory and enthusiast appeal may be advantages, but the nameplate’s future is no longer the same as that of the core Lexus range.
Hybrid or plug-in hybrid: which Lexus approach makes sense?
The 2025 Lexus range gives buyers several electrification levels. A conventional hybrid, such as the RX 350h or NX 350h, does not require the owner to plan charging stops or install charging equipment. A plug-in hybrid, such as the RX 450h+ or TX 550h+, can cover some driving electrically, but its usefulness depends more heavily on regular access to charging.
Do not treat electric-range numbers as interchangeable. The RX 450h+ figure is an EPA estimate, while the TX 550h+ figure in the supplied 2025 material is a manufacturer estimate. Temperature, speed, terrain, payload, tire condition, and climate-control use can all affect real-world results. Confirm the latest official rating and local availability before signing a purchase agreement.

Reliability and safety context
Lexus has strong brand-level dependability evidence. J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study ranked Lexus highest among premium brands for the third consecutive year, reporting 140 problems per 100 vehicles. This is three-year dependability research at the brand level. It is useful context, but it is not a guarantee about any individual 2025 model, trim, or vehicle.
For safety, the IIHS 2025 award information lists the Lexus NX as a Top Safety Pick. Awards and ratings can vary by model, model year, trim, headlights, restraint equipment, and test criteria. Check the current results for the exact vehicle under consideration, and compare standard versus optional driver-assistance equipment rather than assuming that one model’s award applies across the entire Lexus lineup.
What to verify before buying
- Model year and market: This ranking applies to the U.S. 2025 model year. Global lineups and equipment can differ.
- Trim-specific equipment: Confirm all-wheel drive, seating configuration, safety features, towing equipment, and included technology on the exact vehicle.
- Electric range and charging: Distinguish EPA estimates from manufacturer estimates and determine whether you can charge consistently.
- Towing: For the GX, verify the rating for the specific grade and configuration rather than relying on the maximum figure.
- Safety results: Recheck current IIHS information and the exact configuration before purchase.
- Live transaction details: MSRP, incentives, dealer inventory, and availability change. They are not used here to claim that one Lexus is the cheapest to buy.
- Accessories: Confirm model year, seating layout, fastener locations, roof configuration, and load limits. Do not assume a generic marketplace listing is a genuine Lexus accessory.
