Toyota lists 33.5 inches of third-row legroom and 37.2 inches of headroom. Those dimensions can help screen the vehicle, but they cannot tell you how a particular child, teenager, or adult will fit. Hyundai confirms third-row seating for the Santa Fe Hybrid and lists available second-row captain’s chairs. Those chairs change the second-row arrangement, so check the exact vehicle’s seat count and how passengers will enter the third row. Hyundai’s retrieved official information does not establish cargo volume comparable to the Toyota or Kia figures above; don’t infer a cargo ranking from the available specifications.

Kia describes the Sorento Hybrid as a seven-passenger SUV with a standard third row. Kia Media lists 12.6 cubic feet behind the third row, 38.5–45.0 cubic feet behind the second row, and 75.5 cubic feet behind the first row under SAE measurements. Kia’s product page also reports up to 75.5 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded. The most relevant figure for a full passenger load is the space behind row three, but a cubic-foot measurement still cannot show whether your particular gear will fit. Kia’s EPA estimates vary by drivetrain: EX FWD is listed at 37/36/37 mpg city/highway/combined, while AWD versions are listed at 32/35/34 mpg. Compare the figure for the specific version you are considering rather than blending FWD and AWD numbers.
How to test whether a three-row hybrid has enough room
- Bring the people who will use the seats. Have likely third-row passengers sit there, then check their posture and comfort. A dimension alone does not establish fit for your family.
- Try your actual child seats. Install them in the intended second-row positions, then check whether the second row can still move and whether passengers can reach the third row. For captain’s chairs or a bench, test the exact configuration on the vehicle you would buy.
- Load your everyday cargo with all rows raised. Bring the stroller, bags, sports equipment, or other bulky items you routinely carry. Check the hatch opening and remaining space behind the third row, not only maximum cargo volume with seats folded.
- Repeat with the seats folded. If you occasionally haul larger items, see how the second and third rows fold and whether the resulting floor works for your needs.
- Compare the same drivetrain and trim level. Confirm FWD or AWD, the seating layout, and the equipment included on each actual vehicle. Fuel-economy estimates depend on configuration.
Choose by the trade-off that matters most
