Both are editorial rankings, not results from one shared test of identical configurations, so the better choice depends on what you need from a truck.
How the 2026 full-size trucks rank
The comparison below covers five U.S. half-ton pickups: Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and Toyota Tundra. KBB says its editors consider driving performance, technology, cargo space, fuel economy, build, and other factors after test driving and reviewing the trucks. MotorTrend publishes its own ranking and scores. Their different winners reflect different editorial judgments; the scores are not directly comparable across publishers.
| Truck | KBB rank and rating | KBB displayed starting price | KBB displayed combined economy | MotorTrend rank and rating | MotorTrend displayed starting price | MotorTrend displayed economy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ford F-150 | #1, 4.7/5 | $40,085 | 20 mpg | #2, 9.1/10 | $40,085 | Up to 19 city/25 highway mpg |
| Ram 1500 | #2, 4.5/5 | $47,120 | 20 mpg | #1, 9.5/10 | $44,820 | Up to 20 city/25 highway mpg |
| Chevrolet Silverado 1500 | 4.3/5; KBB shows a #3 marker | $45,495 | 19 mpg | #4, 8.4/10 | $38,645 | Up to 18 city/21 highway mpg |
| GMC Sierra 1500 | 4.3/5; KBB shows a #3 marker, while its card text calls it #4 | $46,595 | 16 mpg | #3, 8.8/10 | $40,440 | Up to 22 city/26 highway mpg |
| Toyota Tundra | #5, 4.1/5 | $45,355 | 20 mpg | #5, 8.0/10 | $43,455 | Up to 18 city/23 highway mpg |
Scores, prices, and economy figures are the values displayed on each publisher’s 2026 ranking page; they are not a controlled comparison of matching trims and powertrains. Economy figures may differ by configuration, and the publishers’ displayed values should not be treated as guaranteed results. KBB’s listing has an internal numbering inconsistency for the Silverado and Sierra, so its displayed ratings do not establish a unique third- and fourth-place order for those two trucks. See KBB’s full-size truck rankings and MotorTrend’s 2026 rankings.
Which 2026 full-size truck is rated best?
Choose the ranking that best matches the criteria you care about. KBB’s 2026 list places the F-150 first at 4.7/5; MotorTrend’s places the Ram 1500 first at 9.5/10. Those scores use separate editorial methods and different scales, so comparing the numbers themselves does not show that one truck is objectively better.
#1 Best Overall
- Revell Model Kit #14576, Skill Level 4, Contains 74-Parts, Recommended for ages 12 and up
- High-rise four-wheel-drive suspension. Detailed small-block Chevy V-8 engine.
- Old-school spoke “wagon” wheels with oversize off-road tires.

- Molded in white and clear with soft black tires. Paint and glue required(not included).
The rankings are most useful as a shortlist. Before deciding, compare the specific engine, cab, bed, trim, and equipment you would buy, then consider how each truck performs for your own priorities.
Which truck can tow the most?
Published maximum tow ratings are configuration-dependent ceilings, not promises for every truck sold under a model name. Ford says the exact F-150 towing capacity “varies significantly depending on vehicle configuration such as cab size, accessories and number of passengers.”
Rank #2
- Revell Model Kit #14590, Skill Level 4, Contains 57-Parts, Recommended for ages 12 and up

- Ford F-150: Ford lists up to 13,500 lb of towing for an available 3.5L EcoBoost V6 and 11,600 lb for the 3.5L PowerBoost hybrid. These are manufacturer maximums tied to configuration, not ratings for every F-150.
- GMC Sierra 1500: GMC advertises up to 13,300 lb of towing with its available 3.0L Duramax diesel, which it rates at 305 hp and 495 lb-ft. Actual capacity depends on configuration.
- Ram 1500: Ram’s 2026 towing guide lists a maximum of 11,610 lb for the standard-output 3.0L Hurricane I6 in the guide’s specified configuration. Its capacity table varies by engine, axle, cab, and bed.
These figures come from different manufacturer sources and do not establish a like-for-like comparison. A truck’s payload is also a separate limit: occupants, cargo, and trailer tongue weight all use payload capacity. Ram warns that trailer weight and payload ratings are mutually exclusive and that the truck’s ratings must not be exceeded.
Check the manufacturer’s chart for the exact configuration and the specific truck’s ratings before towing. Do not infer what a dealer-stock truck can safely tow from the model line’s headline maximum. Consult Ford’s 2026 F-150 page, Ram’s 2026 towing guide, and GMC’s Sierra comparison page.

How to choose among the five trucks
Start with your load and passengers
Work out what you will carry or tow, how many people will ride in the truck, and how often you expect to do each job. Payload can become the limiting factor even when a truck’s maximum trailer rating looks adequate, because people, cargo, and trailer tongue weight count against it.
Match the cab, bed, and engine to the job
Compare trucks with equivalent cab and bed layouts, drivetrain, and engine when weighing capability or economy. Bed length and volume, tie-downs, cargo systems, and tailgate design matter if you routinely carry tools or bulky loads. GMC highlights its Sierra MultiPro tailgate and publishes bed-volume comparisons against the F-150; check the dimensions and equipment of the exact trims you are considering.

For powertrain choices, Toyota’s 2026 Tundra page shows gas and hybrid families and trim-specific economy. GMC’s diesel option may merit a closer look if that powertrain and its advertised towing capability fit your requirements. Neither feature alone establishes that one model is the best choice for every buyer.
Test ride comfort, cabin layout, and trim equipment
Spend time in the front and rear seats, try the controls, and assess ride comfort and cabin noise on a route like the one you normally drive. KBB’s ranking discussion calls out Ram ride comfort and the Sierra’s spacious, upscale interior. Treat those as editorial observations to verify in the cab rather than guarantees about every trim.
Best Value
Off-road and premium versions can differ substantially in suspension, tires, ground clearance, protection, and price. Compare the equipment and cost of the specific trims rather than assuming a badge or trim name tells you how a truck will perform on your trails or at work.
Compare real prices and comparable fuel-economy figures
The ranking pages’ starting prices are useful entry points, not apples-to-apples transaction prices. Their displayed prices differ, and the pages may use different trim, destination, or price-display conventions. Compare similarly equipped versions, including destination and options, then check current local offers.
Likewise, do not merge the KBB and MotorTrend economy figures into one definitive comparison. Verify the EPA rating for the exact engine and configuration you are considering and compare like with like.

A single overall safety winner is not established by the available IIHS summary. It includes entries for some 2026 Tundra, Silverado 1500, and Sierra 1500 cab configurations, with results varying by test; it does not provide a complete, equivalent set of current rows for all five models. Check the current IIHS large-pickup results for the exact cab and test coverage before treating safety as a deciding factor.

Predicted reliability, owner surveys, recalls, and observed reliability over multiple years measure different things. Quick Recap
A practical shortlist checklist
- Write down your usual passengers, cargo, trailer, and work or recreation needs.
- Choose a cab, bed length, engine, and drivetrain that fit those needs.
- For towing, verify the exact configuration’s tow and payload ratings, then check the individual truck’s ratings and account for people, cargo, and tongue weight.
- Compare equivalent trims for cabin comfort, bed utility, safety equipment, and off-road or premium features.
- Check fuel economy for the same engine and configuration, and request current local prices for similarly equipped trucks.
- Review current model-year safety test coverage for the cab you plan to buy.
