For U.S. shoppers, the 2026 Ford Maverick with the 2.5L hybrid is the clearly verified front-wheel-drive (FWD) pickup in the manufacturer sources reviewed. Ford also offers all-wheel drive (AWD) with that hybrid, but the available alternatives covered here are not additional confirmed FWD trucks: Nissan lists the Frontier as 4×2 or 4×4, while Honda identifies the Ridgeline as AWD.
What counts as a front-wheel-drive pickup?
FWD means the engine sends power to the front wheels. AWD is a different drivetrain configuration. A manufacturer’s “4×2” label should not automatically be treated as FWD: it identifies a two-wheel-drive configuration, but does not, by itself, establish which wheels receive power.
That distinction matters when comparing trucks. Among the 2026 U.S. manufacturer pages reviewed, Ford explicitly identifies the Maverick 2.5L hybrid as FWD. The sources do not establish a broader field of FWD pickups, so this is a focused guide rather than a ranked list.
2026 Ford Maverick hybrid: the verified FWD choice
Ford lists the 2026 Maverick 2.5L hybrid as FWD and says AWD is available. If you want front-wheel drive specifically, confirm that the vehicle’s window sticker or build sheet identifies the FWD configuration; the model name alone is not enough to distinguish it from an AWD Maverick.

Towing: standard rating versus the 4K Tow Package
Ford gives the Maverick a standard tow rating of 2,000 pounds. The maximum rises to 4,000 pounds when equipped with the available 4K Tow Package. That higher figure is package-dependent, not the standard rating for every Maverick. Check the exact truck’s equipment and Ford’s towing guidance before choosing a trailer, and account for the loaded trailer and the vehicle’s limits rather than relying on the headline maximum.
Bed dimensions and cargo fit
Ford lists one 4-foot-5-inch bed, 33.3 cubic feet of cargo volume, and 42.6 inches between the wheel wells for the 2026 Maverick. The wheel-well measurement can help assess whether bulky items or accessories will fit, while the volume and bed length give a sense of the bed’s dimensions. These are cargo-space measurements, not payload ratings; consult the specific vehicle’s door-jamb label and documentation for payload capacity.

A bed cover may help protect cargo, but dimensions alone do not verify that a particular cover fits. Confirm model-year and configuration fitment with the manufacturer or seller before buying a Ford Maverick bed cover or other bed accessory.

These figures describe a different drivetrain category and are not a like-for-like comparison with the Maverick. Nissan 2026 Frontier |
| Honda Ridgeline | AWD | 280 horsepower and up to 5,000 pounds of towing, as stated on Honda’s 2026 Ridgeline page. It is not identified there as FWD. Honda 2026 Ridgeline |

What to verify before choosing a Maverick
- Drivetrain: Confirm that the exact 2.5L hybrid build is FWD if front-wheel drive is a requirement; choose the available AWD version only if that is what you want.
- Towing: Match the truck’s actual equipment to your trailer. The 4,000-pound maximum requires the available 4K Tow Package; do not assume it applies to a standard build.
- Payload: Find the rating for the individual truck on its label and in its documentation. The bed’s volume and dimensions do not establish payload.
- Cargo fit: Compare the bed’s length and width between the wheel wells with the shape and dimensions of what you carry. Verify accessory fitment for the exact model year and configuration.
- Build and price: Review the current Ford listing and the vehicle’s build sheet before purchase; availability, specifications, and pricing can change.
