Best Electric Pickup Trucks for Towing and Daily Driving: 2026 U.S. Guide

There is no single electric pickup that is best for both towing and daily driving. The right choice depends on your trailer’s loaded weight, how often and how far you tow, charging access on your routes, and what you need from the truck when it is not hitched. For a high published tow rating, the 2026 GMC Sierra EV is a candidate at up to 12,300 pounds with the Extended Range battery; for a smaller pickup format, the Rivian R1T is worth considering, but its 2025 owner guide gives very different limits depending on hitch type. Check the exact truck’s payload and towing documentation before deciding: tow rating alone does not establish that a particular truck-and-trailer combination is suitable.

This guide covers U.S. model-year and specification evidence available as of October 4, 2026. Range and towing figures vary by configuration, and EPA range is not a towing-range estimate.

How to choose an electric pickup for towing and daily driving

Start with how you will actually use the truck, not its largest advertised range or tow rating. A pickup that fits a daily commute may not suit a heavy trailer on a long route with sparse charging, and a high tow rating does not guarantee that the truck has enough payload left for passengers, cargo, and hitch weight.

  1. Get the trailer’s real loaded weight. Use its expected travel-ready weight, including water, equipment, and cargo, rather than its empty weight. Estimate tongue weight too.
  2. Check the exact truck’s limits. Confirm its tow rating for the selected trim, battery, equipment, and hitch arrangement. Compare trailer and tongue weight with the truck’s payload and cargo limits, counting occupants, bed cargo, accessories, and hitch hardware.
  3. Plan the route around towing, not the unloaded range label. Trailer shape and weight, speed, elevation, and weather all affect energy use. Map charging stops for the actual route and check whether a station’s layout lets you charge while hitched. Some sites may require disconnecting the trailer.
  4. Assess daily fit separately. Consider cab and bed needs, parking, home charging, equipment, and how much time the truck will spend towing versus commuting or hauling.

Rivian’s 2025 R1T owner guide says trailer load transfers to the vehicle and must be included in its cargo capacity. GMC likewise cautions that occupants, cargo, options, and accessories can reduce trailering capacity. Those are practical reasons to verify payload and hitch limits rather than treating maximum tow rating as a standalone pass/fail test. See the 2025 Rivian R1T owner guide and GMC’s 2026 Sierra EV announcement.

2026 range figures are configuration-specific

The U.S. Department of Energy and EPA’s 2026 Fuel Economy Guide lists multiple configurations rather than one definitive range for each truck. Its entries include Silverado EV versions from 283 to 493 miles, Sierra EV versions from 283 to 410 miles, and Rivian R1T versions from 258 to 420 miles. These are EPA configuration entries, not estimates of range while towing. Battery, drivetrain, wheel size, trim, and equipment affect which row applies; check the specific vehicle label and configuration.

Chevrolet Silverado EV, 2026 The 2026 Fuel Economy Guide has configuration entries from 283 to 493 miles. Chevrolet advertises up to 478 miles as a GM estimate for a specified max-range model; that is a different estimate and should not be conflated with the guide’s EPA entries. EPA guide; Chevrolet model page. A comparable, configuration-specific tow rating is not established by the cited Chevrolet material here. Confirm it in the exact trim’s official trailering information before comparing with another truck. Chevrolet lists an available Multi-Flex Midgate that can extend cargo length up to 10 feet 10 inches under stated conditions, and available Super Cruise with towing use subject to system limits. GMC Sierra EV, 2026 GMC lists EPA-estimated ranges of up to 283 miles for Elevation Standard Range and 410 miles for Elevation Extended Range. The AT4 Max Range’s up-to-478-mile figure is GM-estimated. The EPA guide has entries of 283, 385, and 410 miles for distinct configurations. GMC model page; EPA guide. Its pickup format may appeal to drivers who do not want a full-size truck, but the cited specifications do not establish a complete independent comparison of size, comfort, or parking ease against the larger pickups.
Ford F-150 Lightning, 2025 specifications Ford lists EPA-estimated range up to 320 miles depending on configuration. Ford specifications. Ford’s later EREV announcement concerns a generator-backed version announced with an estimated range exceeding 700 miles; it is not a range specification for the 2025 battery-electric Lightning. Ford 2025 model page; Ford EREV announcement.
Tesla Cybertruck Long Range The 2026 EPA guide lists a 335-mile entry for the Long Range configuration with 20-inch Cyber wheels. This does not establish range for other configurations. EPA guide. A current, trim-specific towing figure is not established by the cited material here, so it cannot be ranked fairly against the trucks above. The cited material is insufficient for a complete current comparison of its trims, charging, features, and availability.

What towing does to range and trip planning

Expect towing to reduce range, but do not apply one universal percentage to every electric pickup and trailer. Edmunds expert guidance republished by the Associated Press identifies the truck, trailer, elevation, weather, and speed as factors. It describes a historical test in which energy use was 27% higher and range was 27% lower; that result is an example, not a prediction for your vehicle or load. AP/Edmunds, February 15, 2023.

For occasional local towing, the key questions may be whether the truck can safely handle the loaded trailer and whether nearby charging fits your trips. For frequent long-distance towing, route spacing, charging time, trailer drop-off logistics, and the truck’s real payload become central. The published unloaded EPA range is useful for comparing official configuration estimates, but it does not answer how far that vehicle will travel on a specific towing trip.

  • Record the trailer’s loaded weight, tongue weight, and dimensions, plus your likely highway speed and route elevation.
  • Add passengers, bed cargo, accessories, and hitch equipment when checking payload and cargo limits.
  • Map charging stops on the actual route and check stall access and trailer rules; a cross-brand network comparison is not established by the cited specifications.
  • For hitch-dependent ratings, use only a hitch arrangement and equipment approved for the exact truck and trailer. A weight-distributing hitch is not a universal upgrade; compatibility and instructions matter.

Which truck fits which use?

Consider the Sierra EV if its rated capacity and features fit your trailer

Among the listed figures, GMC’s announced 12,300-pound maximum for a 2026 Sierra EV with Extended Range is the highest verified tow rating in this comparison. That number is not a blanket rating for every Sierra EV, and payload can constrain a real setup. Its bed outlets, eTrunk, and Midgate may also suit work or cargo needs, while the lack of Apple CarPlay may matter to some daily drivers.

Consider the Rivian R1T if its format and hitch-specific limit suit your trips

The R1T has a clearly stated distinction between its 11,000-pound rating with a weight-distributing hitch and 5,000 pounds with a standard hitch in the 2025 owner guide. That makes the hitch arrangement a decisive part of the comparison. Match your intended setup to the guide rather than assuming the higher figure applies automatically.

Consider the F-150 Lightning if you want an F-150-style daily truck

Ford’s 2025 figures combine a range estimate up to 320 miles with select configurations rated up to 10,000 pounds when equipped with the optional Max Trailer Tow Package. Other trims and packages have different limits, including the 8,500-pound Platinum maximum. Check the exact truck rather than relying on the model name alone.

Consider the Silverado EV for cargo flexibility, but verify its towing figure

The Silverado EV’s available Midgate can add bed-length flexibility, and its guide entries span a wide range of EPA values across configurations. The cited Chevrolet material here does not establish a tow rating suitable for a direct ranking, so obtain the exact trim’s trailering information before selecting it for a particular trailer.

Do not infer a Cybertruck towing winner from its range entry

The EPA guide’s 335-mile Long Range entry with 20-inch Cyber wheels is a configuration-specific range value. It does not by itself establish current trim-specific towing capacity or enough information for a complete daily-use comparison.

Questions to settle before you buy

  • What is the trailer’s fully loaded travel weight and tongue weight?
  • What are the specific truck’s payload, cargo, and tow limits with your selected trim, battery, wheels, options, passengers, and hitch?
  • How often will you tow, and how long are those trips compared with your routine commute?
  • Can you charge at home, and do available route stops work with a trailer attached or dropped?
  • Do you need an extended bed, bed power, a front storage compartment, particular driver-assistance features, or a specific phone integration?
  • Are the vehicle’s model year, inventory, equipment, and incentives current for your location and purchase date?

Ford’s 2025 Lightning specifications should not be mistaken for a later model-year lineup, and announced EREV figures should not be treated as specifications for a battery-electric model. Prices, inventory, tax rules, and state incentives change; verify them for your location and purchase date.
