There is no single best electric mountain bike across Specialized, Cannondale and Salsa. The right choice depends on terrain, how much assistance you want, suspension travel, fit and the exact build. Specialized’s US catalog covers full-power trail and all-mountain bikes as well as lighter-assist SL models; Cannondale’s Moterra range spans lighter, all-terrain and long-travel options; Salsa’s Moraine and Notch target electric all-mountain and enduro riding. The specifications and prices below come from manufacturer pages accessed in 2026, not independent tests.

How to choose among these electric mountain bikes

Start with the riding you expect to do, then compare the actual model and trim—not just the brand or family name. A bike intended for technical trail riding can differ substantially from a long-travel enduro build, even within one product family.

  • Terrain: Match downcountry, trail, all-mountain or enduro positioning to your usual routes. Manufacturer descriptions are intended-use guidance, not independent ride evaluations.
  • Assistance: Check whether the exact version is full-power or lighter-assist, and compare its motor system and published torque. Power and torque figures listed across a catalog may belong to different trims.
  • Battery: Watt-hours describe battery capacity, not a guaranteed distance. Actual range depends on factors such as terrain, rider and equipment weight, assist setting and conditions; the cited pages do not provide a common test for comparing range.
  • Suspension and build: Compare front and rear travel, frame material, drivetrain and brakes on the exact model. Family-level descriptions do not establish the parts on every build.
  • Fit and support: Confirm sizing and local dealer or service access. If possible, arrange a fit or demo before buying; Specialized’s catalog promotes test rides and its retailer network.
  • Price and region: Match currency, market, model identifier and trim. Web prices and stock change, and the pages cited here cover different regional markets.

At-a-glance: models and specifications

This table brings together the specific manufacturer listings available in the cited pages. It is not a controlled comparison: figures describe different trims and, in Cannondale’s case, distinct Moterra generations.

Model or family Manufacturer positioning Published specifications in the cited source Price shown at access
Specialized Turbo Levo and related families Levo R: lightweight full-power downcountry; Levo 4: full-power trail; Levo 4 EVO: full-power all-mountain; Levo 4 X: overland/adventure. Levo SL is super-light trail; Kenevo SL is super-light enduro. Across catalog listings: Levo 4 batteries of 840 Wh or 900 Wh; power entries of 810 W or 850 W; torque entries of 105 Nm or 111 Nm. SL listings show 320 Wh, 320 W and 50 Nm fields. These catalog figures are not one combined specification for a single bike. US catalog listings ranged from $4,999.99 for a Turbo Levo 4 Alloy to $12,999.99 for an S-Works Turbo Levo R.
Cannondale Moterra SL 2 Family positioning: light, fast and technical riding. Full-carbon frame; 150 mm rear travel and 160 mm Fox fork; Shimano EP801 motor; custom 601 Wh battery. Cannondale lists 85 Nm torque and more than 600 W maximum output. Shimano 12-speed drivetrain and Magura four-piston brakes. Not stated on the cited product page.
Cannondale Moterra Neo S4 A separate Moterra build; the family also includes all-terrain and long-travel variants. Alloy frame; 140 mm travel; Shimano Steps EP6 drive system; 504 Wh battery. Not stated on the cited product page.
Salsa Moraine Deore 12 Light electric all-mountain. 6061-T6 aluminum frame; 145 mm Split Pivot rear travel and 160 mm fork; Fazua Ride 60 system; 60 Nm; 430 Wh. Salsa publishes a 40-mile range estimate, without conditions established in the cited material. $5,199 USD shown at access.
Salsa Notch Electric enduro. Not stated on the cited catalog page. Not stated on the cited catalog page.

Specialized’s figures are catalog-level listings accessed in 2026, not a claim that every Levo 4 has the same motor, battery or travel. Cannondale’s family overview is an Italy-region page, while the cited product pages describe individual builds. Salsa’s Moraine price is a USD listing. Verify regional specifications, stock and current price with the manufacturer or dealer before comparing offers.

Specialized: choose between full-power and SL assistance

Specialized’s US electric mountain-bike catalog includes Turbo Levo R, Levo 4, Levo 4 EVO, Levo 4 X, Levo SL and Kenevo SL. The names cover markedly different riding intents, so “a Specialized Levo” is not a sufficiently precise comparison.

Full-power Turbo Levo models

The catalog positions the Levo R as lightweight full-power downcountry, the Levo 4 as versatile full-power trail, the Levo 4 EVO as full-power all-mountain for bigger terrain and descents, and the Levo 4 X as an overland or adventure model. Across Levo 4 listings, Specialized showed 840 Wh and 900 Wh battery options, 810 W or 850 W power entries, and 105 Nm or 111 Nm torque entries. The catalog also displayed rear-travel filters of 130 mm, 150 mm and 170 mm across its listings; these are not specifications for one shared build.

Lighter-assist SL models

The catalog describes the Turbo Levo SL as super-light trail and the Turbo Kenevo SL as super-light enduro. Its SL listings show fields of 320 Wh, 320 W and 50 Nm. Confirm the precise model and trim to determine which specification applies. Lighter-assist positioning may suit a rider who wants a different assistance character than a full-power model, but the catalog figures alone do not establish how a bike will feel on a particular ride.

Cannondale: distinguish Moterra SL, Moterra and Moterra LT

Cannondale’s family page positions Moterra SL for fast, flowy and technical riding, Moterra for powerful all-terrain riding and long rides, and Moterra LT for steep descents and rough terrain. These are manufacturer descriptions; they do not substitute for comparing suspension, geometry and components on a specific bike.

Moterra SL 2: carbon frame and 601 Wh battery

The cited Moterra SL 2 product page lists a full-carbon frame, 150 mm rear travel, a 160 mm Fox fork, Shimano EP801 motor and custom 601 Wh internal battery. Cannondale specifies 85 Nm torque and more than 600 W maximum output for its Cannondale-tuned motor. The listed build also includes Shimano 12-speed drivetrain components and Magura four-piston brakes. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured output or ride results.

Moterra Neo S4: a different build under the Moterra name

Notch: an enduro-oriented option

Salsa positions the Notch as an electric enduro platform. The cited catalog does not establish component-level specifications or pricing for a specific Notch build, so check the exact product listing rather than inferring its battery, motor or travel from the family label.

Which one is best for your riding?

  • For a full-power Specialized trail bike: Start with Turbo Levo 4 listings, then compare the exact battery, motor, travel and trim. Consider Levo 4 EVO if the intended use is more all-mountain and descent-focused.
  • For a lighter-assist Specialized: Compare Levo SL for trail use or Kenevo SL for enduro intent, and verify the exact version’s specifications.
  • For a technical-riding Cannondale: Moterra SL 2 is the specific cited build with a 601 Wh battery, 150 mm rear travel and 160 mm fork; assess its fit and equipment alongside its intended terrain.
  • For Salsa all-mountain: Moraine Deore 12 has a documented 430 Wh battery, 60 Nm Fazua system and 145 mm rear travel. Consider Salsa’s range statement only as an unqualified manufacturer estimate.
  • For enduro or rough descents: Compare Cannondale Moterra LT, Salsa Notch and Specialized Kenevo SL by exact build, suspension and local support. The family positioning identifies intended use, but it does not supply a like-for-like test verdict.

No common independent test or controlled range protocol is established for these models in the cited sources. The available evidence supports a specification-led shortlist, not an objective overall winner.
