There is no single Corvette model year that is reliably “best” across every generation, trim, and individual car. In ForCar’s complaint-rate analysis, 2014, 2010, and 2012 have the lowest rates among the mature model years it ranks. Consumer Reports offers a different kind of signal, rating 2020, 2021, and 2024 Corvettes favorably against other cars from their respective model years. These measures are not interchangeable—and neither can tell you whether a specific Corvette was maintained well or has an open recall.
Which Corvette years look strongest in the available data?
The clearest year-by-year comparison comes from ForCar’s analysis of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) owner complaints. Updated in September 2026, it covers 4,809 complaints for Corvette model years 1981–2026 and divides complaints by VIN production runs rather than ranking years by raw totals. Its figures are computed rates, not official NHTSA reliability scores.

These are ForCar’s calculations from NHTSA complaint records, not probabilities that a Corvette will fail. NHTSA complaints reflect problems owners chose to report; they do not capture every defect, repair cost, or ownership experience. Why do other reliability rankings disagree?
Different sources measure different things. ForCar adjusts complaints by production runs; CarComplaints uses its own ranking and identifies 2017 as the worst Corvette year by that method, with cracked rims its most reported problem. Consumer Reports uses subscriber survey responses and compares a vehicle with other cars from the same model year. It describes the 2020 and 2021 Corvettes as more reliable than their same-year peers, and the 2024 Corvette as much more reliable than its same-year peers. It says the 2025 Corvette is less reliable than other 2025 cars. Those are relative, survey-based assessments—not direct comparisons across all Corvette years or guarantees for a used car. Consumer Reports predicts the 2026 Corvette will be more reliable than the average new car, based on 2023–2025 models. Treat that as a forecast rather than a mature long-term record. How to use the year rankings when shopping
Use the rankings to shape a shortlist, not to choose a car sight unseen. When comparing candidates, consider the generation and exact trim or configuration, how mature the evidence is, recall completion, records, mileage, physical condition, and inspection results. The available comparisons do not establish a complete trim-level reliability ranking across every Corvette generation.
- Favor a well-documented individual car over a model-year reputation alone.
- Do not treat a higher raw complaint count as a higher failure rate unless the number of cars or production runs is accounted for.
- Compare cars with similar configurations and use histories where possible; complaint and survey data do not control for every difference in maintenance, mileage, or use.
Check recall status by VIN, including campaign 25V536
NHTSA recall campaign 25V536 covers certain 2023–2026 Corvettes equipped with a specified left-side radiator/fan combination. The August 25, 2025 recall letter says excess fuel may spill into the fuel-filler pocket and leak onto an ignition source, increasing fire risk. It identifies 23,656 potentially affected vehicles; that is not a count of fires or confirmed failures. The stated remedy is a dealer-installed shield at no charge. Coverage depends on the vehicle’s equipment and VIN, so verify whether the particular car is included and whether the remedy has been completed. NHTSA recall letter for campaign 25V536

For vehicles affected by this issue, Chevrolet’s interim guidance says to fully insert the fuel nozzle, stop when the pump shuts off rather than topping off, turn off the engine while fueling, and avoid visibly damaged or malfunctioning pumps. What to inspect before buying a used Corvette
- Check the VIN for open recalls. Use Chevrolet’s recall lookup and confirm with a dealer whether any required remedy has been completed.
- Review maintenance and repair records. Look for a consistent history and ask about unresolved symptoms, repeated repairs, or periods without documentation.
- Arrange an independent inspection. Prefer a trained technician or Corvette specialist who can assess the car’s condition and systems. - Include a diagnostic scan as one part of the inspection. A used-Corvette buying guide includes an OBD-II scan for stored fault codes.
