Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe best mono amplifier for your car is the one that delivers suitable RMS power at the impedance your subwoofer will actually present—and fits your vehicle and installation. Match the amp’s RMS rating at that load to the subwoofer’s RMS power handling; then check input compatibility, dimensions, cooling, and the model’s wiring requirements. The Pioneer GM-DX871 and JBL Club A600 have manufacturer-listed, load-specific power ratings that make them concrete options to compare.
How to choose a mono amplifier for a subwoofer
A mono, or monoblock, amplifier has one output channel and is commonly used to power a car subwoofer. Many models include controls for low-frequency tuning. Choose by matching the amp to your subwoofer and installation—not by the biggest peak or maximum-wattage figure on a product box.
- Find the subwoofer’s RMS power handling. Use the rating in its manual or manufacturer specifications, not its peak-power figure.
- Work out the final wired impedance. The subwoofer’s voice-coil configuration and wiring determine the load presented to the amp.
- Compare load-specific RMS ratings. Look up the amplifier’s RMS output at that exact impedance. Aim for output approximately equal to the subwoofer’s RMS handling, and confirm the amp supports the load.
- Check integration and installation. Confirm the available audio inputs, physical dimensions, ventilation, and the amplifier’s specified wiring, fuse, and grounding requirements.
Impedance options depend on the particular subwoofer and wiring plan. For example, Crutchfield says a single dual-voice-coil 2-ohm sub can be wired to 1 or 4 ohms, while a single dual-voice-coil 4-ohm sub can be wired to 2 or 8 ohms. These examples do not cover every configuration; verify the subwoofer manual and the amplifier’s minimum supported impedance before connecting the system. Crutchfield’s amplifier selection guide explains why power ratings change with impedance and why RMS matching matters.

Which of these models may suit your setup?
Pioneer GM-DX871: factory-stereo integration and multiple load ratings
Pioneer lists 300 W RMS at 4 ohms, 500 W at 2 ohms, and 800 W at 1 ohm. Its speaker-level input can help connect the amp to a factory stereo that lacks RCA outputs. Consider it only if the rating at your planned impedance fits your subwoofer’s RMS handling and the unit fits your mounting location.

- 400W RMS BASS POWER: Delivers 400W at 2 Ohms for deep, controlled bass in daily car audio and custom sound systems
- DEEP LOW-END RESPONSE: 8Hz-250Hz range delivers punch, depth and clarity for woofers and dedicated bass systems
- DIAL IN YOUR BASS: Parametric Bass Boost from 35-55Hz with up to +12dB lets you shape powerful, precise low-end response
- BUILT FOR BASS SYSTEMS: Aluminum housing supports heat dissipation and reliable performance for daily and custom audio builds
- PROTECTED FOR DAILY USE: Thermal and short-circuit protection help provide dependable operation in demanding audio builds
JBL Club A600: a 2- or 4-ohm match with flexible inputs
JBL lists 600 W RMS at 2 ohms and 350 W at 4 ohms. It offers both speaker-level and preamp inputs, plus a wired remote, phase switch, low-pass filter, and bass boost. JBL recommends 8-gauge power and ground leads; do not assume those requirements apply to a different amplifier.
Rockford Fosgate Power T750X1bd and Kicker CXA1200.1T: verify before matching
Crutchfield reports up to 750 W RMS at 1 ohm for the Rockford Fosgate model and up to 1,200 W RMS for the Kicker. The cited Kicker description does not attach its figure to a specific impedance, and neither retailer description replaces current manufacturer documentation. Confirm the exact output at your wired load before selecting either amp.

- Class D - Power loss is significantly reduced making the amplifier highly efficient. Excess energy is stored until it’s needed instead of being converted into heat. Reduction in size/weight, reduced power waste, smaller heat sink, compact circuitry
- 1 Ohm Stable - Able to continuously power loads of 1 Ohm without encountering difficulties such as overheating. Typically made to power up subwoofers that demand the heavier power load requirements to be able to perform the way they were made to
- To keep both your car and the stereo amp safe, this ZE1000.1 is equipped w/ thermal, overload and short circuit protection. Has been specially designed from the bottom up to provide safe and high quality sound in a sturdy form factor

Factory stereo inputs, fit, and electrical requirements
Match the inputs to your stereo
If the factory stereo does not provide RCA outputs, speaker-level inputs may allow an amplifier to take signal from the stereo’s speaker wiring. Pioneer lists this input on the GM-DX871, and JBL lists it on the Club A600. Check the vehicle and amplifier documentation to confirm the connection method is appropriate for your system.
Check the mounting location and airflow
Measure available space, including depth, and leave the clearance required for ventilation. Pioneer cautions that its fitment guidance is not guaranteed and tells buyers to verify dimensions. The PowerBass installation manual also calls for airflow clearance. An amp that fits physically but cannot shed heat is not a sound installation choice.

Follow the selected amp’s wiring instructions
Wire gauge, fuse, grounding, and mounting requirements vary by model. Use the amplifier’s own manual rather than copying a specification from another product. JBL recommends 8-gauge power and ground leads for the Club A600, but that is not a universal requirement for mono amplifiers.
Crutchfield describes a basic installation as running power from the vehicle battery and grounding to the chassis, and warns that incorrect work can damage the vehicle. The PowerBass manual advises disconnecting the negative battery lead before installation and checking for nearby fuel, brake, oil, and electrical lines. It also recommends an authorized dealer if you are unsure of your wiring or impedance skills. Follow the manual for the amplifier you choose; consult a qualified installer if the work is beyond your experience. Crutchfield’s installation guide and the PowerBass manual provide further installation guidance.
