For the 2026 U.S. model year, the list of traditional minivans with available all-wheel drive is short: the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica. The Sienna uses a hybrid powertrain and offers AWD on more trim levels, while the Pacifica pairs AWD with a gasoline V6 and provides the most flexible second-row seating.
The right choice depends on whether you value fuel economy and broad AWD availability or interior storage, seating flexibility and stronger conventional-engine performance.
Best AWD minivans for 2026
| Rank | Model | Best for | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2026 Toyota Sienna AWD | Fuel economy, hybrid efficiency and broad trim availability | Less powerful-feeling than the Pacifica and no Pacifica-style second-row Stow ’n Go |
| 2 | 2026 Chrysler Pacifica AWD | Seating flexibility, cargo storage and V6 performance | Substantially lower fuel economy; AWD is limited to gasoline models |
1. 2026 Toyota Sienna AWD: Best overall
The 2026 Toyota Sienna is the strongest all-around choice for families that want an AWD minivan without giving up hybrid fuel economy. Every 2026 Sienna uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid system producing 245 net combined horsepower.
Toyota’s AWD system does not use a conventional mechanical driveshaft to power the rear wheels. Instead, a separate electric motor drives the rear axle when needed. That arrangement reduces mechanical complexity and allows the system to vary torque distribution according to driving conditions.

- 【Easy disassembly of CV axle joint】Using the Axle Popper Forks Ball Joint Press Kit, you can quickly and easily loosen the half-axle wheeled vehicle from the front drive axle without damaging the axle's complex sliding hammer puller kit and pry bar.
- 【Suitable for your needs】The fork-shaped end allows you to apply uniform pressure on both sides of the half shaft to ensure a safe release different from the pry bar and the sliding hammer; the two-piece CV shaft ejection tool kit ensures that it is suitable for most FWD vehicles . Which Sienna trims have AWD?
| Trim | AWD availability |
|---|---|
| LE | Optional |
| XLE | Optional |
| XSE | Optional |
| Limited | Optional |
| Woodland Edition | Standard |
| Platinum | Standard |
This gives the Sienna the widest AWD selection in the 2026 minivan class. The LE, XLE, XSE and Limited can be ordered with either front- or all-wheel drive. AWD comes standard on the Woodland Edition and Platinum.
2026 Sienna fuel economy and pricing
Toyota lists the Sienna at a manufacturer-estimated 36 mpg combined with FWD and 35 mpg combined with AWD. Exact ratings can vary by trim and wheel combination. Toyota’s consumer listings currently show some AWD configurations at 36 city/36 highway mpg, while the Woodland Edition and Platinum are displayed at up to 35 city/36 highway mpg. Check the EPA label and window sticker for the specific vehicle.
| Sienna trim | Current listed starting MSRP* |
|---|---|
| LE | $40,820 |
| XLE | $45,520 |
| XSE | $48,745 |
| Limited | $51,505 |

Which Sienna AWD trim should you buy?
- LE AWD: The lowest-cost route into a hybrid AWD minivan. It is also the practical choice for buyers who want an eight-passenger configuration.
- XLE AWD: A sensible family upgrade with additional convenience equipment without moving into luxury-trim pricing.
- Woodland Edition: The best fit for rough-weather use and light outdoor travel. AWD is standard, and the trim includes increased ground clearance, a tow hitch and a 3,500-pound towing capacity.
- Platinum AWD: The luxury option, with standard AWD and features including a head-up display and panoramic-view monitor.
Sienna AWD drawbacks
The Sienna’s hybrid system prioritizes efficiency rather than brisk acceleration. Its 245-hp output is lower than the Pacifica’s 287-hp V6, and the Sienna can feel less forceful when fully loaded. Its second-row seats also are not designed to fold into the floor like the Pacifica’s Stow ’n Go seats. That matters if you frequently carry bulky cargo and passengers at the same time.

2. 2026 Chrysler Pacifica AWD: Best for interior flexibility
The 2026 Chrysler Pacifica AWD is the better choice when cabin versatility matters more than fuel consumption. It uses a 3.6-liter V6 producing 287 horsepower, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Unlike the Sienna, the Pacifica’s AWD option is tied to the gasoline powertrain. Do not treat it as a hybrid AWD minivan: the 2026 Pacifica AWD lineup does not combine AWD with the plug-in-hybrid powertrain.
Which Pacifica trims have AWD?
| Trim | AWD availability | Current listed price |
|---|---|---|
| Select | Available | $47,790 |
| Limited | Available | $52,950 |
| Pinnacle | Available | $59,440 |
There is no 2026 Pacifica LX AWD. The figures above are current listed AWD prices from Cars.com and can vary with regional pricing, destination charges and equipment. Chrysler’s official site lists the 2026 FWD Pacifica Select, Limited and Pinnacle at lower starting prices, with AWD selected separately in the configurator.
Pacifica AWD fuel economy
Chrysler lists the Pacifica at up to 19 city/28 highway mpg with FWD. The AWD version is rated at a manufacturer-estimated 17 city/25 highway mpg. That is a major operating-cost difference compared with the Sienna’s roughly 35 mpg combined AWD rating.

Why buy a Pacifica AWD?
The Pacifica’s biggest advantage is its seating and cargo system:
- Seating for up to eight, depending on configuration
- Standard third-row Stow ’n Go seating
- Second-row Stow ’n Go on Select and Limited trims
- Up to 140.5 cubic feet of maximum interior cargo volume
- Up to 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row
The second-row seats fold into underfloor compartments on the Select and Limited, creating a flat loading area without removing heavy seats. The Pinnacle does not offer the same second-row Stow ’n Go arrangement, so verify the exact seating configuration before buying.
Which Pacifica AWD trim should you buy?
- Select AWD: The value pick and the least expensive Pacifica AWD. It also retains second-row Stow ’n Go.
- Limited AWD: The best balance of comfort equipment, convenience features and storage flexibility.
- Pinnacle AWD: The most heavily equipped version, but it is not the automatic choice for buyers who specifically want second-row Stow ’n Go.

The 2026 Chrysler Voyager is a separate, lower-priced model and is not interchangeable with the Pacifica. Chrysler’s 2026 AWD minivan trims are the Pacifica Select, Limited and Pinnacle.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does AWD improve braking on snow and ice?
No. AWD can help a minivan accelerate from a slippery stop by sending power to wheels with available traction, but it does not inherently shorten braking distances. Winter or all-weather tires remain critical, and AWD does not compensate for worn or inappropriate tires.
AWD also does not turn either minivan into a serious off-road vehicle. It is most useful for wet roads, snow-covered streets, gravel and steep driveways—not for deep mud, extreme trails or rock crawling.

How to choose the right 2026 AWD minivan
- Estimate your annual mileage. At high mileage, the Sienna’s roughly 35 mpg combined AWD rating can make its fuel advantage significant.
- Check how many seats you need. Both models can seat up to eight, but availability depends on the exact configuration.
- Test the second-row storage system. Choose the Pacifica Select or Limited if folding second-row seats into the floor is a priority.
- Compare the actual window stickers. Sienna AWD pricing varies by trim, while advertised starting prices commonly represent FWD versions.
- Buy appropriate tires. AWD is an acceleration aid, not a substitute for winter traction and safe braking.
