Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe KYBURZ eRod is a minimalist, open electric roadster built around a direct, exposed driving experience—not a conventional sports car with a full cabin and layers of driver aids. In the cited Swiss type-approval record, the eRod Fun is classified as an electric L7e-A2 vehicle; “sports car” describes its character, not its regulatory class. Published figures differ by source and configuration, so its power, range and weight need to be read with their context.
What the eRod is—and what it is not
KYBURZ Switzerland AG is identified as the manufacturer in both its 2019 press release and the Swiss approval record. The eRod’s appeal is its stripped-back format: two seats, a low-slung stance and an exposed cockpit that makes the driver feel close to the road. It is better understood as a specialist electric roadster than as a mainstream enclosed car.

The Swiss record describes a particular eRod Fun configuration as electric, two-seat and L7e-A2. That is the classification in the cited Swiss record, not a guarantee of how an eRod would be classified or approved in another country. The record lists dimensions of 3,059 mm long, 1,614 mm wide and 1,235 mm high.
What the published specifications say
There is no single clean set of figures across the available sources. The manufacturer’s 2019 Fun specifications, the Swiss approval record and a 2019 road test report different values for some measures. They should not be merged into a universal specification.

| Measure | Published figure | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 45 kW | KYBURZ’s 2019 press release for the Fun; the manufacturer also lists 140 Nm of torque. KYBURZ, 2019. |
| Power | 15 kW | Swiss approval record for the cited eRod Fun configuration, with data as of 2026-08-01, presented by dauto.ch from ASTRA catalogue data. The sources do not establish a harmonized interpretation of the difference. Swiss type-approval record. |
| Maximum speed | 120 km/h | Listed by both the 2019 manufacturer release and the cited Swiss approval record, for their respective contexts. KYBURZ, 2019; approval record. |
| Range | 183 km | Manufacturer-stated figure for the Fun in the 2019 press release; not an independently verified road result. KYBURZ, 2019. |
| Range | 136 km tested; 100–130 km manufacturer figure | Auto Trends’ 2019 road test reported 136 km in its test and attributed a 100–130 km figure to the manufacturer. Test conditions and use differ from a standardized guarantee. Auto Trends, 2019. |

A Portuguese seller listing describes its individual 2019 demonstration vehicle as having an LFP 17 kWh battery, a 6.6 kW charger and a claimed 120 km real range. Those are details and claims for that vehicle, not general eRod specifications. erod.pt listing.
What it feels like behind the wheel
Auto Trends’ 2019 road test portrays the Fun as an unusually direct, open driving experience and notes the absence of conventional driver aids in the tested vehicle. That is an observation about the car in that test, not a definitive equipment list for every eRod. Anyone considering a specific vehicle should check its actual safety equipment and the requirements that apply where it will be driven.
The open cockpit is central to the experience, but it also means wind and debris are part of the equation. The road test recommends protective glasses. Treat them as a practical consideration for an exposed cockpit, not as an included accessory or a manufacturer endorsement of any particular eyewear.

Different versions and ways to buy
The 2019 road test discusses Basic, Fun and Race versions, but those descriptions are period-specific reporting, not evidence of a current lineup. It reports the Basic at 45 kW with a stated range of 55–70 km, and the Race at 150 kW/204 PS. KYBURZ’s 2019 release provides the detailed Fun figures above. The available sources do not establish current model-year specifications or present-day orderability.
KYBURZ’s press release dated 2019-02-01 described the eRod as available either complete or as a self-build kit, with a guided one-week workshop at the factory for kit builders. It also listed a Speedster disc screen, side panels, bucket seats, cup tyres, luggage and rack, and carbon wheel guards. This establishes what the manufacturer described historically, not what can be ordered now.
The same release listed historical Swiss prices including VAT: CHF 39,500 for the self-built version and CHF 42,500 for the factory-built version. Separately, erod.pt advertised one used demonstration vehicle for €28,900; the page describes it as manufactured in March 2019 and imported in April 2020, with fewer than 6,000 km when listed. That is one seller’s listing, not a current market price or a comparison with the historical Swiss figures.
Quick Recap
What to check before considering an eRod
- Approval and registration: verify the individual vehicle’s documents and whether its class permits the intended use in your jurisdiction.
- Actual configuration: confirm which version, battery, equipment and accessories the particular vehicle has rather than relying on period brochures or another seller’s listing.
- Range expectations: treat published range figures as source- and context-dependent, and ask for evidence relevant to the specific vehicle and your intended routes.
- Open-cockpit practicality: consider weather exposure, eye protection, passenger comfort and the lack of conventional driver aids reported in the road-tested car.
- Availability and support: confirm directly with a current seller or manufacturer representative whether vehicles, kits, workshops, parts and listed accessories are available in your market.
