But the announced review does not establish that a factory has moved, and published racing agreements keep KTM and Tech3 together from 2027. They do not show that MotoGP spending or staffing is exempt from the wider efficiency drive.
What Bajaj’s control of KTM means
In November 2025, Bajaj completed its acquisition of sole control of Bajaj Auto International Holdings AG, increasing its stake from 49.9% to 100%. Bajaj Mobility AG—formerly PIERER Mobility AG—is the listed holding company above KTM AG in the group. The change put KTM under full Bajaj control through that ownership chain; it was not itself an announcement that production would move.
Bajaj Auto’s FY2025–26 annual report says it provided €880 million in equity and debt funding to address KTM’s liquidity challenges and support restructuring. Earlier, KTM AG and two subsidiaries had entered Austrian judicial restructuring proceedings with self-administration in November 2024. Bajaj Mobility’s H1 2025 report says those proceedings were completed in June 2025.
What KTM is changing—and what has been measured
The announced restructuring
On January 13, 2026, Bajaj Mobility announced a reduction of around 500 positions. At December 31, 2025, the company reported 3,794 employees; it said the planned reductions would predominantly affect salaried roles and middle management. The announcement describes a target, not confirmation that every position had been eliminated.

The wider efficiency program includes lower fixed costs, removal of a management layer, a simpler model and project portfolio, and optimization of the international site and leadership network. KTM CEO Gottfried Neumeister described the job reductions as “a difficult but necessary decision to lower our costs, slim down structures, and thereby place the company on a stable footing for the long term.”
Reported results are not the same as the full program
In its Q2 2026 update, Bajaj Mobility reported that overhead costs were €56.9 million lower year over year in that quarter. The company attributed approximately 25% of the improvement in its EBITDA margin to overhead-cost reduction. Those are company-reported quarterly comparisons, not a full-year savings figure or proof that the restructuring is complete.

Separately, Bajaj Mobility reported Q1 2026 motorcycle sales of 40,332 units, up 125.1% year over year. That sales comparison is a sign of operating movement, but it does not establish that KTM has met its longer-term turnaround goals.
Are KTM factories moving to India?
No specific factory transfer is established in the published announcements covered here. Bajaj Mobility has described optimization of the international site network, but its cited efficiency-program announcement does not identify a plant being moved, a receiving factory, or a transfer date.

The Austrian production record is distinct from a newly announced relocation. Production was suspended for most of the first half of 2025 amid liquidity constraints, then resumed on all four Austrian lines at the end of July, according to Bajaj Mobility’s H1 report. KTM had said the Mattighofen and Munderfing sites would remain the basis of its future success; that earlier assurance does not settle whether the later site-network review will lead to changes.
India was already part of KTM’s production network. In May 2025, Bajaj Auto described its joint-development program as developing and manufacturing KTM motorcycles in India for local sale and export through KTM’s network, with exports reaching 80 countries. That existing operation is not evidence that a new Austrian production line has been transferred to India.

Has Bajaj cut KTM’s MotoGP program?
The public commitments point to continuation, not withdrawal: MotoGP reported a renewed multi-year KTM–Tech3 partnership from 2027, including factory support and technical collaboration, and KTM is included in the manufacturers’ agreement covering 2027–2031.
Those agreements establish planned participation and partnership, not an unchanged racing budget. The published commitments do not say that every MotoGP cost or role is protected from KTM’s wider efficiency measures, and they do not quantify racing expenditure.
