Neither bike is a universal daily-use winner. The better choice depends on the exact variant and model year, your commute, and how each feels on a test ride. TVS lists more peak power for the Apache RTR 160 2V, while Bajaj lists a larger tank for the Pulsar 150; neither figure by itself settles comfort, fuel economy or value.
Version matching matters especially now: Bajaj announced a substantially updated Pulsar 150 on 24 August 2026. Compare the motorcycle actually offered by your dealer—not an older specification page—with the Apache variant you are considering.

First, match the model year and variant
Bajaj Auto announced an all-new Pulsar 150 on 24 August 2026, with a new engine and gearbox, monoshock suspension, a 5-inch TFT console, Crawl Tech and Google Maps navigation. Bajaj described its price as an introductory ex-showroom Delhi price. The announcement does not establish that every dealer has the updated bike in stock or that every current specification-page figure applies to it. Ask the dealer to identify the model year and exact variant in the quotation, and verify the specifications of that motorcycle. Bajaj Auto’s announcement

How the published specifications compare
| Daily-use factor | Bajaj Pulsar 150 | TVS Apache RTR 160 2V | What it means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine and listed output | 149.50 cc; 14 PS at 8,500 rpm and 13.25 Nm at 6,500 rpm, according to Bajaj’s cited specification page. | 159.7 cc; TVS lists 16.04 PS and 13.85 Nm in Sport mode, and 13.32 PS and 12.7 Nm in Urban/Rain modes. | TVS lists higher peak output in Sport mode. Output depends on the Apache’s selected mode; peak figures alone do not establish which bike is easier or more comfortable in traffic. |
| Fuel tank | 15 L, as listed on Bajaj’s cited specification page. | 12 L, as listed on TVS’s cited RTR 160 2V page. | The Pulsar has the larger listed capacity. Tank size alone does not establish riding range without comparable fuel-consumption figures. |
| Listed weight and seat height | 148 kg for the single-disc version and 150 kg for the twin-disc version; dimensions vary by version. | 137–139 kg by variant; TVS lists a 790 mm saddle height. | The cited Apache variants are lighter on paper. Try the actual bike: listed weight and seat height cannot tell you how easy it is to balance, manoeuvre or reach the ground. |
| Brakes and equipment | Bajaj lists single-disc and twin-disc versions, with equipment such as console and USB features varying by variant. | TVS lists braking and ABS configurations by variant. | Compare the exact brake and ABS setup, rather than relying on the model name alone. Check that the equipment listed is on the bike you are quoted. |
| Price references | Bajaj’s pages show differing Delhi ex-showroom price references; they are not a confirmed quote for a particular bike or city. | TVS’s model listing displayed a Delhi ex-showroom starting price of ₹1,20,420 at access; it is not an on-road total. | Get current, same-city quotations for matching variants. Registration, road tax, insurance and dealer charges affect the amount payable. |

What matters most in a daily commute
Stop-start riding and low-speed control
Engine output figures do not show how either motorcycle responds in your commute. In a test ride, pay attention to balance at walking pace, throttle response when pulling away, and how the clutch and gears feel in repeated starts and stops. If possible, ride the exact variant you would buy.

Fit, comfort and passenger use
Check whether you can place your feet confidently when stopped, whether the riding position feels comfortable, and how the seat works for your typical trip. If you regularly carry a passenger, assess passenger space and comfort together. Published dimensions and weight are useful for narrowing a choice, but they cannot substitute for trying the bike.

Modes and features
TVS lists Sport, Urban and Rain modes for the relevant Apache variant, with different output figures by mode. Its owner manual also documents mode-dependent limits for its ride-mode variant. Treat the selectable modes as a feature to understand on the specific bike, not as proof of better everyday fuel economy or comfort.

Price: compare matching local quotations
Displayed prices are not directly comparable unless they refer to the same date basis, city and type of charge. Bajaj’s August 2026 announcement gave an introductory price of INR 115,233 ex-showroom Delhi for the new Pulsar 150. Bajaj’s price page displayed a different ex-showroom Delhi figure at access, and its general product page showed another starting reference. TVS’s model listing displayed ₹1,20,420 onwards ex-showroom Delhi for the Apache RTR 160 2V at access. These figures are manufacturer page or announcement references—not current, matching on-road offers.
Request written quotations for the same city and the precise variants under consideration. Ask each dealer to show the ex-showroom price, registration and road tax, insurance, and any dealer charges separately. TVS also says a complimentary XPOD helmet is included in selected states; confirm current eligibility and availability locally rather than treating it as a nationwide inclusion. Mileage, reliability and ownership costs
The cited manufacturer information does not provide a comparable real-world commuter mileage test for the exact current versions. It also does not establish a reliability or maintenance-cost winner, or which brand has better service in your area. Do not infer range from tank capacity or treat a single owner’s fuel-economy report as a guaranteed result for your route.
For a more useful ownership comparison, ask local owners about their routes and riding conditions, and request the current scheduled-maintenance details from each dealer. Treat informal mileage reports as route- and rider-specific, not as a controlled comparison. Check nearby service access and parts availability in your own area.
A practical way to choose
- Identify the bikes: Get the model year and exact variant for each, especially whether the Pulsar offered is the all-new model announced on 24 August 2026.
- Match the equipment: Compare the actual brake and ABS setup, dimensions, weight and included features—not just the model names.
- Compare written prices: Obtain same-city on-road quotations and check which charges and offers are included.
- Ride both: On a safe route, assess low-speed balance, stop-start response, clutch and gear feel, seat comfort, reach to the ground and braking confidence. Include a passenger if that reflects your regular use and it is practical to do so.
- Make the decision against your commute: Give priority to the bike that fits your body, route and local service options. Use the specification differences as context, not as a substitute for that assessment.
Both manufacturers provide routes to local dealers and price information: Bajaj prices and dealer information and TVS price listing.
