Bad News: The Yamaha FJR1300 Is Gone in the U.S.—But Not Worldwide

The Yamaha FJR1300 is gone from the U.S. after 2024 and ended in Japan with the 2022 anniversary model, but official 2026 listings prove it is not globally dead.

The Yamaha FJR1300 is effectively finished as a new motorcycle in the United States, but it has not gone “six feet under” worldwide. Yamaha’s U.S. lineup ends with the 2024 FJR1300ES, and Japan ended domestic FJR1300A/AS production with the 2022 20th Anniversary Edition. However, Yamaha still lists a 2026 FJR1300 ES in Canada and a 2026 FJR1300AE in Australia.

As of August 11, 2026, the most accurate description is not “globally discontinued.” The FJR1300 has become a regional, limited-availability legacy model—one of the last large-displacement, shaft-drive sport-tourers still appearing in selected Yamaha markets.

The short version: what happened to the FJR1300?

Market What Yamaha’s information shows
United States 2024 FJR1300ES is the last listed model year; Yamaha did not offer it in the U.S. for 2025.
Japan Domestic FJR1300A/AS production ended with the 2022 20th Anniversary Edition.
Canada Yamaha lists a 2026 FJR1300 ES as a limited-quantity offering.
Australia Yamaha lists a MY26 FJR1300AE with a ride-away price of A$34,949.

That regional split matters. A U.S. rider searching for a new FJR1300 will find that the model has disappeared from Yamaha’s current American touring lineup. A rider in Canada or Australia may still find a factory-listed 2026 motorcycle, subject to local inventory and availability.

None of those facts establishes one universal factory production-ending date for every export market. They do establish that the FJR1300’s status now depends heavily on where you live.

2024 was the last U.S. model year

Yamaha’s U.S. model page identifies the motorcycle as the 2024 FJR1300ES and lists a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $18,299. Yamaha’s U.S. touring lineup places it under “2024 // TOURING,” while the rest of the displayed touring range consists of newer model-year products.

Yamaha’s remaining 2025 model announcements stated that the FJR1300ES would no longer be offered in the U.S. market for 2025. In practical terms, 2024 is the final U.S.-listed model year—not necessarily a documented final production date for every FJR made for every country.

That distinction is important for shoppers. “Discontinued in the U.S.” means Yamaha stopped presenting the FJR as part of its new-bike offering there. It does not mean every unsold 2024 motorcycle instantly became unsupported, nor does it prove that production ended globally on December 31, 2024.

Japan ended domestic production with the 20th Anniversary Edition

Japan’s timeline is clearer. In a December 20, 2021 announcement, Yamaha Motor said the FJR1300AS/A 20th Anniversary Edition would launch on February 10, 2022, and that domestic-market FJR1300AS/A production would end with that model.

The anniversary edition marked two decades of the platform in its original major market. Yamaha says the FJR1300 debuted in Europe in 2001, combining long-distance high-speed ability, comfort, and agile handling in a package that helped establish the modern sport-touring category.

The Japanese-market AS was the more highly equipped version, with Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift, electronically adjustable suspension, and LED cornering lights. The A and AS designations should not be casually treated as identical to every FJR1300 sold elsewhere, since equipment and model names vary by market.

The important exception: Canada and Australia still list 2026 models

Yamaha Canada’s official touring information lists a 2026 FJR1300 ES with a starting price of C$22,949, including freight and PDI. The Canadian page describes it as a limited-quantity offering and highlights electronic suspension, an adjustable windscreen, shaft drive, the 1,298cc four-cylinder engine, and color-matched hard luggage.

Yamaha Australia lists a MY26 FJR1300AE with a ride-away price of A$34,949. Its equipment list includes electronic suspension, cruise control, traction control, adaptive LED lighting, an electronically adjustable windscreen, a 25-liter fuel tank, six-speed transmission, and shaft final drive.

“Listed for 2026” still does not mean unlimited production or guaranteed dealer stock. Canada’s explicit “limited quantities” language is a warning not to interpret the listing as evidence of a long-term commitment. It simply means the FJR remains an official current offering in those markets at the time of publication.

Why the FJR1300 mattered

The FJR was never just a large motorcycle with luggage attached. It represented a particular version of sport touring: substantial engine performance, serious wind protection, integrated hard cases, a long-distance riding position, cruise control, and shaft-drive convenience.

The U.S. FJR1300ES used a 1,298cc liquid-cooled, DOHC, 16-valve inline-four with fuel injection and Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle. Power went through a six-speed transmission to a shaft final drive. The ES also included electronically adjustable suspension and ABS, putting modern touring equipment around an engine and chassis concept that had evolved over a very long production life.

For the 2024 U.S. model, Yamaha listed a 6.6-gallon fuel capacity, a 60.8-inch wheelbase, and a wet weight of 642 pounds for the standard version or 644 pounds for the California version. The listed seat-height range was 31.7 to 32.5 inches.

Australia’s MY26 specifications list a 25-liter tank and a wet weight of 292 kilograms. Those figures should not be directly blended with the U.S. specifications: market equipment, measuring conventions, and model-year configurations can produce differences. When comparing listings, always label the market and year.

Why did Yamaha withdraw it?

The available official material confirms what Yamaha did, but not one universal reason why it did it. The FJR’s age makes emissions rules, market homologation, inventory planning, and the cost of updating a mature platform plausible considerations, but the reviewed sources do not identify a single confirmed corporate explanation.

That means claims such as “Yamaha killed it because of emissions regulations” should be presented as speculation unless supported by a direct Yamaha statement for the specific market. The defensible conclusion is narrower: Yamaha has progressively withdrawn the FJR from important markets while retaining it in selected countries.

What this means for current and used-bike owners

A motorcycle leaving a new-bike catalog does not become mechanically obsolete overnight. The FJR1300 has a large installed owner base, and Yamaha’s U.S. parts store continues to show FJR-specific components and accessories. Examples include a touring windshield, tank pad, top-case mount, top-case backrest pad, replacement side-case components, replacement side-case inner bags, and a 2024 FJR1300ES parts diagram.

Yamaha’s genuine-parts information also directs owners toward dealerships, certified technicians, and genuine replacement parts. That is encouraging, but it is not a promise of indefinite availability. Inventory, production, superseded part numbers, and ordering rules can change by country and model year.

Before ordering anything, identify:

  • the exact model year;
  • the country-market version;
  • whether the motorcycle is an A, AE, ES, or AS variant;
  • the relevant VIN or factory part number; and
  • whether the item affects safety, fitment, electronics, luggage mounting, or suspension calibration.

This is especially important for bodywork, windshields, brake components, electrical parts, suspension components, and hard luggage.

Routine service still matters

Discontinuation does not eliminate ordinary maintenance. Batteries age whether a model is current or not, and a long-distance motorcycle that sits unused may need more attention—not less—to its battery, tires, fluids, brakes, seals, and fuel system.

If you are shopping for an FJR1300 motorcycle battery, confirm the battery size, terminal layout, physical dimensions, polarity, and model-year compatibility before ordering. FJR fitment should not be assumed across every year and market, and a listing’s generic “fits FJR1300” language may not be enough to establish compatibility.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The same caution applies to a FJR1300 touring windshield. Yamaha’s catalog confirms that FJR-specific windshields and related components exist, but screen shape, mounting hardware, height, and market version should be matched carefully. A FJR1300 service manual can also be useful for a DIY owner or technician, but manuals are model-year- and sometimes market-specific; verify the edition and seller before relying on it for repairs.

Recalls are still relevant

Used-bike buyers should check recalls by VIN rather than relying on general internet claims. NHTSA records include campaigns affecting particular FJR1300 model years, including a 2016–2021 FJR1300A campaign and an earlier 2006–2009 ground-wire-junction campaign.

Those records should not be generalized to every FJR1300. Before buying a used example, run its VIN through the current NHTSA recall database and Yamaha’s recall channels. Ask a Yamaha dealer whether completed recall work is recorded, and treat an unresolved safety recall as a buying and safety issue—not merely a bargaining opportunity.

Is the Tracer 9 the FJR1300’s replacement?

Yamaha’s current U.S. touring strategy emphasizes the Tracer 9 family rather than a new large-displacement FJR replacement. In Australia, Yamaha presents the Tracer 9 and Tracer 9 GT Plus alongside the FJR1300AE in its sport-touring range.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That does not make the Tracer 9 a formal, one-for-one successor. The two motorcycles represent different product concepts. The Tracer uses a smaller-displacement, more modern platform and is significantly lighter in character and specification than the big inline-four FJR. Depending on version, it offers contemporary rider aids and touring equipment, but it does not simply reproduce the FJR’s combination of 1,298cc inline-four power, substantial mass, shaft drive, and long-established chassis architecture.

It is fair to call the Tracer family a current Yamaha sport-touring alternative. It is not supported by the reviewed Yamaha sources to call it the officially named successor to the FJR1300.

Should you buy a used FJR1300?

For a buyer who specifically wants a large, shaft-drive sport-tourer, the FJR remains a rational used-bike candidate. Its discontinued or regionally limited status is not, by itself, a reason to reject a well-maintained example. It is a reason to inspect the motorcycle and plan ownership more carefully.

Before purchasing, check:

  1. VIN and recall status: verify open campaigns through NHTSA and Yamaha.
  2. Service history: look for documented maintenance, not just low mileage.
  3. Electrical condition: inspect battery health, charging-system operation, connectors, and accessories installed by previous owners.
  4. Suspension and controls: test electronic suspension settings, cruise control, traction-control functions where fitted, and the adjustable windscreen.
  5. Luggage: inspect side cases, locks, hinges, mounts, seals, and any top-case hardware.
  6. Consumables: budget for tires, brake pads, fluids, battery, and overdue maintenance.
  7. Parts planning: confirm that critical market-specific or cosmetic parts can still be sourced in your country.

A used FJR’s value will depend more on condition, history, mileage, specification, and local parts access than on a simplistic “discontinued” label.

The FJR1300’s real status: a regional legacy motorcycle

The Yamaha FJR1300 is not cleanly dead everywhere. It is dead—or at least absent from the new-bike lineup—in the United States after 2024, and Japan ended domestic production with the 2022 anniversary model. Yet official 2026 listings in Canada and Australia show that Yamaha has not treated the model as a universal worldwide cancellation as of August 11, 2026.

The better obituary is that the FJR is transitioning from a normal global product into a regional and increasingly limited platform. That is bad news for American buyers looking for a new one, but not necessarily bad news for owners. Parts catalogs, dealer support, used examples, and routine maintenance remain practical realities. The sensible approach is to verify everything by market, model year, VIN, and part number.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Yamaha FJR1300 discontinued worldwide?

No. Yamaha’s U.S. lineup ends with the 2024 FJR1300ES, and Japan ended domestic A/AS production with the 2022 20th Anniversary Edition. However, Yamaha still lists 2026 FJR1300 models in Canada and Australia as of August 11, 2026.

What was the last Yamaha FJR1300 model year in the United States?

The 2024 FJR1300ES was the last FJR1300 model year listed by Yamaha U.S. Yamaha said the model would not be offered in the U.S. for 2025.

Does Yamaha still support FJR1300 owners?

Yamaha’s U.S. parts store continues to list FJR-specific parts, accessories, and parts diagrams. Availability can change, however, so owners should confirm the exact year, market, variant, and part number before ordering.

Is the Yamaha Tracer 9 the FJR1300’s replacement?

The Tracer 9 is a current Yamaha sport-touring alternative, but the reviewed Yamaha material does not formally identify it as the FJR1300’s successor. It is a different, lighter-displacement product concept.

What should I check before buying a used FJR1300?

Check the VIN for open recalls, review service records, test the electrical and electronic systems, inspect the luggage and windscreen, verify suspension operation, and confirm local availability of important replacement parts.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The FJR1300 has gone six feet under in the U.S. new-bike market, and Japan’s domestic production ended with the 2022 anniversary edition. But it is not globally discontinued as of August 11, 2026: Canada and Australia still list 2026 versions. For owners and used-bike buyers, the key issue is not immediate obsolescence—it is increasingly regional parts, inventory, recall, and fitment support.
