AutoX’s fully driverless RoboTaxi pilot was reported open to Shenzhen residents in 2021. At launch, residents could sign up through the company’s official WeChat account, AutoX_AI, and pilot users could pay with AutoX membership credits. That is a historical access route—not confirmation that the service can be booked today.
How Shenzhen residents accessed the 2021 pilot
A Pingshan District government report credited to Shenzhen Daily, updated April 12, 2021, said residents could sign up through AutoX’s official WeChat account, AutoX_AI, shown in Chinese as “AutoX无人驾驶.” Pilot users could use AutoX membership credits. AutoX’s own company timeline also places its early-rider program in 2021.
The same government report said the pilot’s operations center opened in Pingshan on January 28. These details describe how the launch was presented at the time; they do not establish a current signup process.
What “fully driverless” meant in the report
The launch report described rides without an accompanying in-car safety driver or a remote operator. It separately said passengers could contact a customer-support agent during the journey. Customer support should not be confused with someone remotely driving the vehicle.

Vehicle and reported driving examples
The vehicle was identified as a Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The report’s description of a demonstration video said it showed the vehicle navigating around other road users, yielding to pedestrians and workers, and making unprotected left turns and lane changes. Those are examples attributed to the report’s account of a demonstration, not an independent evaluation of the system.
Service area was not the same as fully driverless coverage
Later figures distinguish the wider RoboTaxi service area from the smaller area in which fully driverless operation was reported. Each figure is historical and attributed to its source:

| Source and date | Reported figure | What it describes |
|---|---|---|
| Shenzhen Daily via Shenzhen Government Online, February 11, 2022 | More than 1,000 vehicles | AutoX announced that its RoboTaxi fleet had passed this milestone; the figure was not presented as a government fleet audit. |
| Shenzhen Daily via Shenzhen Government Online, February 11, 2022 | More than 1,000 square kilometers | Reported RoboTaxi service area. |
| AutoX, March 22, 2023 | More than 1,000 square kilometers | Company-reported Shenzhen service area. |
| AutoX, March 22, 2023 | 168 square kilometers | Company-reported fully driverless operating zone within the larger service area. |
The 2022 figures appear in Shenzhen Government Online’s report, which also describes coverage in Pingshan. AutoX’s March 22, 2023 post makes the service-area/fully-driverless-zone distinction explicit. The larger service-area figure should not be read as a claim that every part of it had fully driverless operation.
Shenzhen’s targets were plans, not proof of results
A Shenzhen Municipal Government Office implementation plan published November 14, 2022 set targets of more than 100 autonomous taxis by the end of 2023 and “one city, one thousand vehicles” by the end of 2025. Those were policy goals for the city, not evidence that the targets were reached or that AutoX alone was responsible for meeting them. The 2022 Shenzhen report provides the historical context for the city’s autonomous-vehicle activity.

Can the public book an AutoX RoboTaxi in Shenzhen now?
The available official and company descriptions document the public pilot and reported operating details through 2023, but they do not confirm present-day passenger availability. They also do not establish current routes, fares, hours, eligibility rules, or whether AutoX_AI still accepts rider signups. Treat the WeChat details above as historical, not as current booking instructions.
