1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe newest Audi RS 5 is officially quoted at 0–100 km/h in 3.6 seconds—not 0–60 mph. That distinction matters: 100 km/h equals 62.1 mph, and a manufacturer’s 0–100-km/h specification is not interchangeable with an independently tested 0–60-mph time.
The 2026 RS 5 is also a major departure from earlier versions. It is Audi Sport’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid, combining a twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor for a claimed 639 PS, 825 Nm of system torque, and up to 84 km of electric range under the cited European test method. But the RS 5 story began with a naturally aspirated V8—and its acceleration has improved significantly across three generations.

- 0–60 mph ends at 60 mph, or about 96.6 km/h.
- 0–100 km/h ends at 100 km/h, or about 62.1 mph.
- A 0–100-km/h result normally takes slightly longer than a 0–60-mph result, but the two figures should not be presented as if they were the same test.
- Audi’s numbers are manufacturer claims. They are not independent instrumented-test results.
So the accurate short answer is: the latest RS 5 is claimed to reach 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. A verified, independent 0–60-mph time would require a separate test of a specific car, on specific tires and road conditions.
1. The 2026 RS 5 is Audi Sport’s first high-performance plug-in hybrid
The latest RS 5 represents the biggest powertrain change in the model’s history. Instead of relying solely on gasoline power, it pairs an improved 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with an electric motor. Audi describes it as its first high-performance plug-in hybrid.
The European announcement identifies two body styles: the RS 5 Sedan and RS 5 Avant. That is a change from the previous generation’s Coupé and Sportback naming. Audi says the new models are built in Neckarsulm, Germany.
European order books were scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2026, with deliveries expected in summer 2026. Audi also quoted German starting prices of €106,200 for the Sedan and €107,850 for the Avant. Those are German-market prices, not U.S. MSRP, and the announcement does not establish U.S. availability.
2. Its V6 alone makes 510 PS
The combustion engine in the newest RS 5 produces 375 kW, or 510 PS, and 600 Nm of torque. That is already more power than the 450-PS engines used in both the original V8 RS 5 and the later twin-turbo V6 generation.
The electric motor adds up to 130 kW, or 177 PS, and 460 Nm. Because the engine and motor do not simply produce their peak figures at exactly the same time, the system output is not the arithmetic sum of every individual maximum. Audi quotes a combined peak of 470 kW, or 639 PS, and 825 Nm.
The electric motor is integrated into a hybridized eight-speed gearbox, allowing the RS 5 to combine electric propulsion with the transmission and all-wheel-drive system rather than treating the electric powertrain as an unrelated add-on.

3. It can travel up to 84 km electrically—under the European test method
The high-voltage battery has a 25.9-kWh gross capacity and a 22-kWh net capacity. Audi quotes an all-electric range of up to 84 km, rising to as much as 87 km in city driving under the cited European measurement terminology.
These are European-market figures and should not be relabeled as EPA range results. Real-world electric distance can vary with temperature, speed, traffic, terrain, tires, climate-control use, and battery condition.

This suction phone cradle obtained CP65 / REACH / RoHS safety certifications
Maximum AC charging power is 11 kW. Audi quotes approximately 2.5 hours for a full charge under the specified conditions. Charging time is therefore quick enough for regular overnight or workplace charging, but the quoted time is not a promise that every home installation will deliver the same result.
4. Audi claims a production-car world first for rear torque vectoring
One of the most technically unusual features is Audi’s quattro with Dynamic Torque Control. The rear transaxle uses electromechanical torque vectoring to vary the torque sent between the left and right rear wheels.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Audi describes this rear torque-vectoring arrangement as a world first in a production vehicle. That wording should be attributed to Audi rather than treated as an independently audited industry conclusion.
The system works with a new preloaded center differential that controls the front-to-rear torque split. Audi says its control software recalculates the target torque distribution every five milliseconds, while the rear torque-vectoring response can occur in approximately 15 milliseconds. Those are manufacturer technical claims, not independent laboratory measurements.
In practical terms, the hardware is intended to give the RS 5 more control over how its power is used when accelerating out of corners, changing direction, or managing different grip levels. It is not simply an all-wheel-drive system designed to prevent wheelspin in a straight line.
5. A ten-second boost unlocks maximum system performance
The newest RS 5 includes a ten-second boost function. At the push of a button, it makes the car’s full system performance available for a short period.
That feature is best understood as a temporary performance mode, not as evidence that the car produces its maximum combined output continuously. Battery charge, thermal conditions, drive mode, and other operating factors can affect how a hybrid system deploys power.
6. The RS 5 has a dedicated drift setting
Audi’s RS torque rear mode is designed for controlled drifting on a closed course. It changes the way torque is distributed so that the rear axle can play a much larger role in rotating the car.
This is a specialized driving mode—not a recommendation to use public roads for drifting. The result depends on the driver, surface, tires, safety environment, and vehicle settings. A factory drift mode makes a behavior more accessible; it does not eliminate the risks involved.

7. It can record drift angle and track information
The newest RS 5’s driving-experience function can record information such as lap times, distance, drift angle, and track-sector data. That turns the car’s performance systems into more than a collection of drive modes: the vehicle can also help document what happened during a closed-course session.
Recorded data can be useful for comparing laps or reviewing technique, but it should not be confused with independently validated timing equipment. Audi’s feature description establishes what the system is designed to record, not that every displayed measurement will match professional track instrumentation.
8. The original RS 5 used a naturally aspirated V8
The first production RS 5 was announced in Japan in 2010. It used a hand-assembled, high-revving 4.2-liter V8 FSI—a very different character from the current turbocharged plug-in-hybrid powertrain.
Audi listed:
- 450 PS
- 430 Nm of torque
- 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds
- 250 km/h electronically limited top speed
- A seven-speed S tronic transmission
- quattro all-wheel drive
The 2010 figure is again an Audi-quoted 0–100-km/h claim, not a 0–60-mph test result. Even so, it shows how the RS 5’s official acceleration claim has progressed: from 4.6 seconds in the V8 car to 3.9 seconds in the later V6 and 3.6 seconds in the latest hybrid.
9. The V8’s quattro system was advanced for its time
The original RS 5 was not just a big-engine coupe with four-wheel drive. Its quattro system used a crown-gear center differential capable of varying the front-to-rear torque distribution. Audi’s 2010 material also listed a rear sport differential and torque vectoring.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →That combination is one of the original RS 5’s most interesting engineering details. It paired a naturally aspirated, high-revving V8 with sophisticated power distribution rather than depending on turbocharging or electrification to deliver its performance.
10. The second-generation RS 5 traded the V8 for twin turbos
The later RS 5 generation replaced the naturally aspirated V8 with a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6. In Audi’s revised Coupé and Sportback documentation, the engine produced:
- 331 kW, or 450 PS
- 600 Nm of torque
- quattro permanent all-wheel drive
- An eight-speed tiptronic transmission
- A claimed 0–100 km/h time of 3.9 seconds
Audi listed a 250-km/h top speed, with an optional 280-km/h limit in the cited European documentation.
The V6 made the car’s peak torque much earlier and in a much larger quantity than the V8: 600 Nm versus 430 Nm. That illustrates why engine displacement alone does not tell the whole performance story. Turbocharging changed the torque curve even though the published peak power remained 450 PS.

11. The previous RS 5 came as both a Coupé and Sportback
The second-generation RS 5 was available as a two-door Coupé and a five-door Sportback. The Sportback added everyday practicality without abandoning the RS 5’s performance-oriented drivetrain.
Audi’s cited 2020 figures put the RS 5 Coupé’s luggage capacity at 410 liters and the Sportback’s at 465 liters. Those numbers are specification- and market-specific, but they highlight the practical difference between the body styles.
Audi also listed the Coupé at 1,707 kg without the driver and the Sportback at 1,742 kg in the cited specification. The extra five-door practicality came with a stated weight increase of 35 kg.
12. The RS 5’s design references Audi’s quattro past
The 2020 RS 5 design was deliberately connected to Audi’s rally and performance-car heritage. Audi identified the 1980 original quattro and the 1984 Sport quattro as design inspirations.
The visual link was not limited to a badge or a retro color. Audi said the RS 5’s wheel arches were widened by 15 mm on each side compared with the predecessor. The broader stance helped give the car the squared-off, muscular appearance associated with Audi’s quattro-era performance models.
13. The body-style story changes with the newest generation
There is an important naming difference between the generations:
| Generation or announcement | Body styles identified in the cited material | Powertrain | Audi-quoted acceleration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original RS 5, announced 2010 | Production RS 5 coupe | 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 | 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds |
| 2020 RS 5 documentation | Coupé and Sportback | 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 | 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds |
| Newest RS 5, announced February 2026 | RS 5 Sedan and RS 5 Avant in the cited European announcement | 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 plus electric motor | 0–100 km/h in 3.6 seconds |
This does not necessarily mean every market will use the same names or receive the same body styles. Audi’s 2026 announcement establishes the European models cited there; it does not confirm U.S. availability or U.S. naming.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.14. The acceleration progression is impressive—but not a laboratory comparison
Using Audi’s own published figures, the RS 5’s claimed 0–100-km/h time improved from 4.6 seconds in the original V8 to 3.9 seconds in the twin-turbo V6 and then to 3.6 seconds in the plug-in hybrid.

That progression is useful for understanding Audi’s development priorities, but it is not a perfectly controlled scientific comparison. The cars differ in powertrain, transmission, software, weight, tires, body style, battery state, launch strategy, market specification, and test conditions. A manufacturer’s quoted number may also be achieved using a procedure that differs from a magazine’s independent test.

15. The RS 5’s most interesting fact may be how much its mission has expanded
The RS 5 started as a high-revving V8 performance coupe. It then became a twin-turbo V6 available as both a Coupé and a practical Sportback. The newest car adds plug-in capability, electric driving, temporary system-output boosting, electronically managed rear torque distribution, and track-data recording.
That means the headline acceleration number tells only part of the story. The latest RS 5 is not merely a quicker version of the original. It is a different interpretation of the same performance-car idea: strong straight-line acceleration combined with increasingly sophisticated control over traction, torque, efficiency, and driver interaction.
What can change an RS 5 acceleration result?
Even when two cars carry the same RS 5 badge, their measured acceleration can differ. The most important variables include:
- Measurement endpoint: 0–60 mph and 0–100 km/h are different tests.
- Test method: Audi’s official specification is not the same as an independent instrumented test.
- Market and equipment: powertrain calibration, options, safety equipment, and speed-limit settings can vary.
- Body style: Coupé, Sportback, Sedan, and Avant versions can have different weights and aerodynamics.
- Tires and surface: tire compound, temperature, road grip, and preparation strongly influence a launch.
- Hybrid battery state: the latest RS 5’s electric performance depends on the battery and system operating conditions.
- Launch technique: driver inputs and launch-control procedures can materially affect the result.
- Altitude and weather: air density, heat, wind, and road gradient all matter.
For those reasons, a precise answer should always identify the exact model, market, body style, test endpoint, and source of the number.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Audi RS 5’s 3.6-second time a 0–60-mph result?
No. Audi quotes the newest RS 5 at 0–100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. That endpoint is about 62.1 mph, so it should not be labeled as a 0–60-mph time.
Which RS 5 had a V8?
The original production RS 5, announced in 2010, used a hand-assembled 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 producing 450 PS and 430 Nm.
How much power does the newest RS 5 make?
Audi quotes 510 PS and 600 Nm from the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, with total system output of up to 639 PS and 825 Nm when the electric motor is included.
Is the 2026 Audi RS 5 coming to the United States?
The cited Audi announcement covers European ordering and German pricing. It does not confirm U.S. availability or U.S. MSRP, so a U.S. launch should not be assumed without a separate Audi USA announcement.
The Bottom Line
The Audi RS 5’s quickest official acceleration figure is currently 3.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h for the newest 2026 plug-in-hybrid model. The original V8 managed a claimed 4.6 seconds, while the later twin-turbo V6 reduced that to 3.9 seconds. Just remember that these are Audi’s 0–100-km/h specifications—not independent 0–60-mph test results—and that market, body style, tires, battery state, and testing conditions can all change the outcome.
