RepairPal estimates average Audi Q5 repair and maintenance costs at $928 a year in its 2026 data. That is a national model-level benchmark, not a quote for your vehicle: year, engine, mileage, location, service history and unexpected repairs all affect the bill. For a used Q5, focus on the exact engine and model year, verify maintenance records, investigate any oil-consumption or carbon-buildup symptoms that apply, and check open recalls by VIN.
How much does it cost to maintain an Audi Q5?
RepairPal’s 2026 estimates put the Q5 above its luxury midsize SUV comparison average for annual repair and maintenance cost, but below it on the site’s severe-repair measure. The figures are aggregate estimates based on RepairPal data, not Audi service prices or a prediction for an individual vehicle.
| RepairPal measure (2026) | Audi Q5 | Luxury midsize SUVs | All vehicle models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Average annual repair and maintenance cost | $928 | $807 | $652 |
| Average unscheduled repair-shop visits per year | 1.2 | 0.6 | 0.4 |
| Probability of a severe repair | 9% | 11% | 12% |
RepairPal defines a severe repair as one costing three times the average annual repair cost across all models. Its figures describe its proprietary-data estimates, not Audi warranty statistics. A 9% severe-repair probability does not mean that 9% of Q5s will need the same repair, or that a particular vehicle’s costs will match the average. See RepairPal’s Q5 reliability estimates.
Use the $928 figure as a budgeting starting point, then get local estimates for work your car actually needs. Labor rates and parts pricing vary by location, and a vehicle’s age, engine, mileage and repair history can change the total substantially.

What maintenance schedule should an Audi Q5 follow?
Follow the owner’s manual and scheduled-maintenance information for the exact model year, engine and market. Do not apply an old schedule to every Q5: intervals and required items vary by year and powertrain. Compare service invoices with the applicable schedule when evaluating a used vehicle.
What Audi specified for the 2014 Q5
Audi’s 2014 model-year maintenance document calls for the first scheduled service at 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or one year after delivery, whichever comes first. It then specifies service every 10,000 miles or one year after the previous service, whichever comes first. Its table assigns work by interval and engine, including oil and filter service, inspections and dust-and-pollen-filter replacement; spark-plug intervals depend on engine. These are 2014-specific instructions, not a schedule for later Q5s. The document is available through NHTSA’s 2014 Audi Q5 materials.

What to check in service records
- Confirm the records correspond to the car’s model year and engine, rather than relying on a generic Q5 schedule.
- Compare dated invoices and odometer readings with the required intervals; note overdue or undocumented services.
- Check that any cabin or dust-and-pollen filter part is compatible with the specific year, engine and trim before buying a replacement.
What are common Audi Q5 problems?
Available reports point to questions worth investigating on particular Q5s, not defects that should be assumed on every vehicle. RepairPal highlights carbon buildup for certain older direct-injection engines; CarComplaints records oil-consumption complaints and model-year complaint counts. Neither source establishes the failure rate across all Q5s.
Carbon buildup on some 2009–2016 engines
RepairPal identifies carbon buildup as a reported problem associated with 2009–2016 Q5s equipped with 2.0 TFSI or 3.2 FSI direct-injection engines. That range is a reason to verify the vehicle’s engine and ask about relevant diagnosis or repair history; it is not proof that every example is affected. See RepairPal’s Audi Q5 problem overview.

Which Audi Q5 years have excessive oil consumption?
CarComplaints identifies excessive oil consumption as the most-reported Q5 problem for model year 2012. Its page also ranks 2014 as the Q5 year with the highest complaint count in its current comparison. These are reports submitted to that site, not a controlled reliability study: complaint totals do not show what share of vehicles were affected and cannot predict whether a specific Q5 will develop the issue. See CarComplaints’ Audi Q5 complaint data.
For a used Q5, ask whether the owner has had to add oil between services and look for records of diagnosis or repairs. Treat a vague answer or missing records as a reason for a pre-purchase inspection by a shop familiar with Audi vehicles, not as confirmation of a particular fault.

How to evaluate a used Audi Q5 before buying
Compare individual vehicles by their configuration and documented condition; the available complaint data is not sufficient to rank every Q5 year by total ownership cost or identify one universally best year.
- Identify the exact vehicle. Record model year, engine, powertrain configuration, mileage and market. Do not infer engine-specific risks from the badge alone.
- Review service history. Match dated work and mileage to the schedule for that year and engine. Follow up on gaps, overdue service and undocumented repairs.
- Ask about relevant symptoms and work. For the older direct-injection engines noted above, ask about carbon-buildup diagnosis or repair. For any Q5, ask about oil use between services and check supporting invoices.
- Arrange an inspection and itemized estimate. Have an Audi-capable shop assess reported symptoms and quote needed work using local parts and labor assumptions. RepairPal’s national estimate is only a comparison point.
- Check recalls by VIN. Confirm whether campaigns are open and whether required remedies are documented as complete.
How to check Audi Q5 recalls
A recall listing is not enough to establish that a specific Q5 is affected. RepairPal’s dynamic recall page includes NHTSA campaign 25V-294, concerning an engine cylinder head cover gasket oil leak, as well as high-voltage battery-related listings. Applicability depends on the vehicle and campaign; check the VIN and remedy status using the RepairPal recall listing and an official VIN lookup before buying or arranging work.
