The new entry-level Audi is the Audi A2 e-tron, not a Q2. Audi confirmed the name in March 2026 and revealed the electric compact in September. It is planned for production in Ingolstadt, with German orders already open and UK orders due to open in October 2026.
What was the Audi spotted in testing?
The camouflaged prototype reported by Autocar in November 2025 was an early test vehicle for what Audi later named the A2 e-tron. The spy report suggested the model could act as an indirect successor to the A1 and Q2, which it said were expected to retire in 2026. Autocar also interpreted the prototype’s shape as resembling a smaller Q4 e-tron with cues from the original A2. Those were visual impressions of a camouflaged car, not Audi-confirmed design intent. What is the A2 e-tron’s place in Audi’s range?
Audi positions the A2 e-tron as an entry point to its electric compact range. The company says the car will be built in Ingolstadt, Germany. That makes “electric Q2 or A2?” a question with a clear answer: the official model name is A2 e-tron. Whether it fills the role of a direct replacement for the Q2 or A1 is a separate question; Audi’s published material describes its positioning but does not make that replacement claim.
What range, battery and power options has Audi announced?
Audi’s September 2026 material lists four power levels, three gross battery capacities and rear-wheel drive. The exact combination depends on version and market; the published summary does not map each power level to a particular battery size.

The range and consumption figures are manufacturer WLTP figures, not results from an independent road test. The 12.8 kWh/100 km claim applies specifically to the 140 kW model with the optional efficiency package; Audi calls that configuration its most efficient model to date. Can the A2 e-tron power a home?
Audi lists optional bidirectional charging, including Vehicle-to-Home capability in Germany, Austria and Switzerland when paired with a suitable DC wallbox. The feature is optional and availability is market-specific. Audi’s announcement does not establish compatibility with a particular third-party charger, so buyers should confirm the required equipment for their country and vehicle version with Audi. What the early spy photos can—and cannot—tell you
The 2025 spy report matters because it documented Audi testing a new compact entry model before its official identity was known. It cannot establish the final specification, real-world range, interior practicality or whether the car replaces a particular existing model. Audi’s later releases provide the name, positioning and headline technical and market information, but the cited material does not provide independent test results or a like-for-like competitor comparison.
