A lawsuit alleges that piston or piston-ring problems in certain 2012–2017 Audi vehicles with 2.0-liter turbocharged engines can cause excessive oil use and other engine damage. The allegations are not a court finding that the engines are defective, and the proposed class list does not establish that any particular vehicle qualifies for relief.
What does the lawsuit allege?
The complaint alleges that pistons or piston rings in certain Audi 2.0-liter turbocharged engines did not seat or function properly. Plaintiffs say the alleged problem may lead to excessive oil consumption, loss of compression, damage to engine components, or engine failure. The complaint also alleges that a failure could cause a sudden loss of engine power. These are claims in the lawsuit, not established engineering findings or conclusions reached by a court. Complaint
Which Audi vehicles does the complaint identify?
The complaint identifies the following 2012–2017 model-year Audi vehicles, when equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, as proposed class vehicles:
- Audi TT
- Audi A3
- Audi A4
- Audi A5
- Audi A6
- Audi Q3
- Audi Q5
This is the proposed scope described in the complaint, not a final eligibility list. Whether a vehicle is covered for any relief depends on the case definition and later court orders. Owners should compare their exact year, model, and engine with official case documents and current docket materials; the model list alone cannot confirm eligibility.

Does the lawsuit mean your engine is defective?
No. Filing a complaint states plaintiffs’ allegations; it does not prove a defect in every listed engine or diagnose an individual vehicle. Oil consumption or a loss of power can have more than one cause. A vehicle’s symptoms should be assessed on their own merits rather than treated as proof of the alleged piston or ring issue.
How is the related Mishkin case connected?
A federal court opinion in the related Mishkin matter says it was transferred to the District of New Jersey under the first-filed rule because the similar, earlier-filed Rieger case was already pending there. That procedural history explains why the cases were connected; it does not establish that the alleged defect is real. Mishkin opinion
