Probably not at a glance. Hagerty’s July 2026 guide puts a 1984 Bitter SC coupe in good condition at $15,033, and its records show a 1984 coupe sale for $21,000 on June 23, 2025. Both are useful reference points, not an appraisal of the specific car advertised for $45,000: its identity, currency, condition, specification and repair history have not been established.
How does $45,000 compare with the available price evidence?

The first two figures are well below $45,000, but they are not directly interchangeable: one is a condition-based guide and the other is a dated transaction. The euro-denominated CLASSIC.COM result is a separate reference, not evidence that the headline car is the same listing or that $45,000 is its currency-equivalent value.

Before treating the asking price as fair or excessive, compare the car’s condition, country, currency, specification and sale terms with the reference being used. Hagerty describes its price guide as informational, not financial advice, so these numbers are context rather than a professional appraisal.
What makes the Bitter SC rare—and what does rarity tell you?
The SC was built from 1980 to 1986, but published production counts differ. Hagerty lists 460 coupes, 21 convertibles and five sedans; Hagerty UK gives an alternate tally of 450 coupes and 23 production convertibles. The sources do not reconcile the difference, so neither count should be presented as an uncontested total.

Those figures cover different body styles. A coupe should be compared with coupe references, not treated as directly equivalent to a convertible or sedan. Scarcity can make an SC distinctive, but by itself it does not establish that a particular car deserves a premium—especially when difficult-to-source body parts can make defects expensive to address.
Which specification is actually being offered?
Do not infer the engine or gearbox from the 1984 model year. Hagerty describes the standard coupe as having a fuel-injected 2,968 cc six-cylinder; its configuration label lists 170 hp, while the accompanying description says 177 hp. Because those figures conflict within the same source, they are best treated as a specification discrepancy rather than a precise claim about the car for sale.

The 3.9-liter Mantzel-stroked engine is another point to verify. Hagerty says it arrived in 1985 and gives 207 hp and 240 lb-ft; Hagerty UK says the option appeared in 1984 and gives roughly 210 bhp and 260 lb-ft. Confirm the engine fitted to the individual car and its documentation instead of relying on a year-based assumption.
Hagerty says most SCs had automatic transmissions and that a Getrag five-speed was available. It describes the five-speed as a more desirable driver specification, and original Ronal wheels as important to purists. Neither feature, on its own, proves that a $45,000 asking price is justified.

What should a buyer inspect before discussing a premium?
Rust deserves priority. Hagerty identifies it as the SC’s biggest issue, including trouble around window frames, and says spare body panels are nonexistent. It reports that roughly the first 100 cars used recycled Italian steel and developed rust; later cars could also suffer window-frame rust associated with acidic adhesive. A clean-looking exterior is not enough to establish the condition of hidden or structural areas.
- Structure and body: Have a marque specialist inspect the underbody, structural areas and window frames, and document the location and extent of any corrosion.
- Past rust work: Ask for invoices, photographs and repair details. Hagerty treats documentation of rust repairs as a plus; undocumented repairs leave their extent and quality uncertain.
- Interior: Check the woodwork and leather dashboard, which Hagerty identifies as areas of concern.
- Identity and specification: Match the VIN and vehicle documents to the car, then establish the engine, transmission, body style and originality.
- History and sale terms: Review service records and repair invoices; clarify mileage, location, asking currency and what fees or other costs are included.
A borescope can help view otherwise inaccessible cavities, but it cannot determine structural integrity and does not replace an inspection by a qualified classic-car specialist.

What would make $45,000 more—or less—plausible?
The available evidence alone cannot settle the price. A documented, well-preserved example with a verified specification and carefully recorded repairs is not directly comparable to a car with unresolved corrosion, missing history or uncertain identity. Conversely, rarity or a desirable gearbox is not enough to bridge the gap between the asking figure and the available references without evidence about this particular car.

Until those details are verified, the sound conclusion is conditional: $45,000 looks high against the available coupe references, but the exact car has not been established well enough to call it a deal—or to appraise it.
