What is the ARC LINX P9?
The LINX P9, also called the Hybrid Lynx P9 in a January 2023 report, is ARC Aero Systems’ proposed nine-seat passenger aircraft. ARC describes hybrid-electric and twin-turboprop variants. Its configuration combines a wing and rear pusher propellers with a slowed rotor; the company labels its takeoff “jump take-off” and landing “no roll.”

How far is the LINX P9 supposed to fly?
The reported range depends on the source and configuration. Kowatek Solar LTD’s Jan. 24, 2023 report attributes two figures to ARC: 950 km in standard configuration and 1,300 km with an extended-range tank. The headline’s 800 miles is a rounded conversion of 1,300 km, not a separate measured range.

ARC’s product page lists 1,400 km maximum range with a 10-minute reserve. That is a separate company-published specification; the reviewed material does not explain how its configuration or calculation compares with the earlier figures. These numbers should not be treated as equivalent-condition results or independently verified performance.

Is the LINX P9 a helicopter or an airplane?
ARC presents it as a hybrid aircraft using a slowed rotor, wing, and pusher propellers—not simply as a conventional helicopter. Its “jump take-off” and “no roll” landing descriptions indicate the company intends it to take off and land without a conventional runway roll. The available material does not provide enough technical detail to independently characterize its flight mechanics or compare its operating envelope with a particular helicopter or airplane.
What propulsion and fuel does ARC propose?
ARC describes hybrid-electric and twin-turboprop variants. Its announcement says the aircraft is intended to use sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), while hydrogen is framed as a possible future option. Are the cost and range advantages proven?
No. ARC’s announcement says, “The LINX P9 offers a 40% more cost-effective alternative to helicopters (based on the DARPA model) and 30% increased range compared to similar size helicopters (based on the Roskam method).” Those are company claims tied to named model bases, not independent comparative test findings.
Kowatek Solar LTD’s 2023 report also attributes an estimated cost of approximately US$505 per flight hour and a roughly 40% lower-cost claim to ARC. The reviewed material does not establish the assumptions behind that hourly estimate or show operating data supporting it. A meaningful comparison would require a defined helicopter, mission, passenger load, reserve policy, fuel and maintenance assumptions, and independently supported performance data.
