Aptera has not yet established that its solar car has entered commercial production. Since unveiling a production-intent vehicle at CES in January 2025, the company has built validation vehicles and ordered body and chassis components for its first 40 intended production vehicles. Its latest stated plan is to begin those builds by the end of 2026 and start customer deliveries in early 2027, subject to financing, suppliers and regulatory approvals.
What Aptera showed at CES
On January 7, 2025, Aptera unveiled a production-intent version of its solar electric vehicle at CES. Its solar panels were integrated into four areas: the hood, dashboard, roof and hatch. The company described the body as carbon-fiber sheet molding compound and called the vehicle “production-ready.” In the same announcement, however, Aptera said it was moving from prototypes into validation vehicles. Aptera advertised up to 400 miles of range on a charge, up to 40 miles of solar-powered driving per day, and more than 10,000 solar-powered miles per year in sunny climates. These are company-promoted capabilities, not independently confirmed specifications for a production vehicle. Solar contribution also depends on exposure and conditions, so the advertised figures should not be read as guaranteed daily mileage for every owner.

Validation builds are for testing, not deliveries
In March 2026, Aptera said its first vehicle had completed a 14-station low-volume validation line. The company described the vehicles as test assets for thermal validation, brake performance, destructive testing, refining assembly processes and regulatory certification work. Solar results are tied to specific tests
In June 2026, Aptera reported that a production-intent validation vehicle generated 4.42 kWh over one real-world test day. Using its 100 Wh-per-mile design target, the company said that energy could represent up to 44 miles of driving. That conversion depends on the company’s stated efficiency target; it is not a measured promise of 44 miles of solar range in ordinary use. Aptera said third-party verification was scheduled. A subsequent company update reported that TÜV Rheinland independently measured the vehicle exceeding 4 kWh of solar energy on each of three test days. The result is meaningful evidence from those test days, but it does not establish a daily output or driving range that owners can expect across different locations, weather or seasons. Parts ordered for the first 40 intended production vehicles
In August 2026, Aptera said it had ordered body and chassis assemblies—including frame and suspension—for its first 40 production vehicles. The company expected component deliveries to begin in October and said it had solar cells in inventory for more than 100 vehicles. It also said it still needed remaining components, financing and final regulatory approvals. Aptera’s current production and delivery timetable
In an October 1, 2026 release, Aptera said it planned to begin building its first 40 production vehicles by the end of 2026, with customer deliveries planned for early 2027. Those are forward-looking company targets, not completed milestones. Aptera conditioned the estimates and schedule on obtaining financing in time, supplier performance and regulatory approvals, and also identified risks involving access to capital, supply chains, scaling production and regulatory compliance. The same release estimated that the company would need about $25 million to reach start of production, about $65 million to reach output of 500 vehicles per month, and about $115 million to scale toward 20,000 vehicles annually. These are management estimates for different stages of the proposed ramp, not independent assessments that the money is secured or that the production rates will be achieved.
Aptera Co-CEO Chris Anthony characterized the financing plan as “a fundamentally leaner path to getting Aptera into customers’ hands.” That is management’s description of the plan, not independent evidence that the schedule is feasible. The company has also stated: “There can be no assurance that Aptera will achieve start of production on the anticipated timeline or at all, or that it will obtain the regulatory approvals necessary to sell or operate its vehicles commercially.” Aptera’s August 2026 statement

So, will Aptera’s solar car go into production?
It is more accurate to say Aptera is working toward production than to say production is assured. The company has progressed from a CES production-intent showcase to validation-line builds and orders for initial production components. Its latest public timetable puts initial production builds at the end of 2026 and customer deliveries in early 2027, but both remain conditional plans. The cited company updates do not establish that commercial customer production or deliveries have started.
