Aptera’s first production-intent vehicle has driven around a building in a low-speed function test, according to the company. That is a limited vehicle-function milestone—not a range test. Aptera’s current Launch Edition target is up to 400 miles per charge; the 1,000-mile figure is not a demonstrated production specification.
What did Aptera’s low-speed drive show?
Aptera’s company post described its first production-intent vehicle driving around the building during a low-speed function test. The company said track-based energy and range measurements would come later. The post’s text was surfaced in search, but the LinkedIn page itself could not be accessed, so these details should be understood as Aptera’s account, not an independently verified test result. Aptera company post
A low-speed drive can show that a vehicle moves under its own power and allow basic functions to be checked. It does not establish how far the car travels on a charge, how efficiently it uses energy at road speeds, or whether it is ready for customer delivery.
Does the Aptera really have a 1,000-mile range?
Not as a currently demonstrated Launch Edition specification. Aptera’s 2026 Form 10-K lists a target of up to 400 miles on a charge for the Launch Edition. That is a company target, not an independently measured road-test result. The available evidence does not establish an independent 1,000-mile test, so the larger figure should be treated as a possibility or earlier product aspiration—not a verified production-car range. How much range might the solar panels add?
Aptera’s 2026 filing targets approximately 700 watts of embedded solar cells and estimates up to 40 miles of solar-generated driving per day in optimal conditions. These are design estimates, not guaranteed daily mileage. The filing says Aptera’s solar testing indicates potential above 10,000 miles of solar-generated driving per year in optimal sunny locations; actual contribution will vary with sunlight, location, parking, weather, and use. Aptera Motors Corp. 2026 Form 10-K
Solar-generated driving is separate from the car’s battery range on a charge. It describes energy collected over time, rather than extending a single-charge range claim to 1,000 miles.

What are the current price and reservation terms?
On October 7, 2026, Aptera’s reservation page displayed a $40,000 target price, a 400-mile estimated range, and $100 due today. The page also said the vehicle shown remains in testing and validation, specifications may change, and the final purchase price will be announced before delivery. Treat the $40,000 as a target, not a confirmed final price. Aptera reservation page
The page’s displayed savings estimate—$1,500 a year and $7,500 over five years—assumes 10,000 miles of solar driving per year and compares that with a 30-MPG gasoline vehicle at $4.50 per gallon. Those are Aptera’s assumptions and calculation, not independently observed savings. Aptera reservation page

How close is Aptera to production and deliveries?
Aptera reported on August 12, 2026, that it had received an EPA Certificate of Conformity for its 2026 Launch Edition and, after the quarter ended, ordered bodies and chassis for its first 40 production vehicles. The certificate and component orders are meaningful milestones, but neither establishes that customer vehicles have been delivered. Aptera’s August 12, 2026 results release
Funding remains a material factor. Aptera said it had $10.1 million in cash as of June 30, 2026, and estimated it needed another $40 million to $45 million to fund initial low-volume production. In an October 1, 2026 release, the company identified risks including the need for additional capital, supply-chain performance, production scaling, regulatory approvals, and whether demand, pricing, and production costs meet assumptions. It said its ability to continue as a going concern depends on raising more capital and executing its business plan. These factors make any delivery timing dependent on execution and financing, not just vehicle testing. Aptera’s October 1, 2026 release
