For U.S. fans, Apple TV becomes Formula 1’s exclusive broadcast home beginning with the 2026 season. The five-year deal covers every practice session, qualifying session, Sprint, and Grand Prix live and on demand. The published price is $12.99 per month after a seven-day free trial, but viewers do not need Apple hardware, and all practice sessions plus selected race weekends will be available free.
The short version
For viewers in the United States, the 2026 Formula 1 season is the first covered by Apple’s new five-year deal. Apple TV becomes the exclusive U.S. broadcast home for the complete championship: every practice session, qualifying session, Sprint, and Grand Prix is scheduled to be available live and on demand through the Apple TV service.
The deal does not move Formula 1 exclusively to Apple worldwide. It applies to the U.S. market, replacing the previous ESPN-centered arrangement. U.S. fans also do not necessarily have to pay for every viewing opportunity: Apple says all practice sessions and selected race weekends will be available free, while Yahoo Sports and Tubi provide additional free coverage or alternate presentations.
The paid option costs $12.99 per month in the United States after a seven-day free trial, based on Apple’s published pricing. It includes the F1 package without a separate sports add-on. You need the Apple TV app or a compatible partner platform, not an Apple-made television or streaming box.

What the Apple-F1 deal actually includes
| Question | Answer for U.S. fans |
|---|---|
| When does it begin? | The 2026 Formula 1 season. |
| How long is the agreement? | Five years. |
| What is exclusive? | The U.S. broadcast home for the full F1 championship, not worldwide Formula 1 rights. |
| Which sessions are included? | Practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions at Sprint weekends, and every Grand Prix. |
| Are replays included? | Yes. The package includes full replays, highlights, interviews, press conferences, and related programming. |
| What does it cost? | $12.99 per month in the U.S. after a seven-day free trial, subject to Apple’s current terms. |
| Do you need Apple hardware? | No. The Apple TV app works on numerous smart TVs, streaming devices, consoles, browsers, and partner services. |
That distinction matters because the word Apple TV can refer to three different things:
- Apple TV service: the subscription that carries the F1 coverage.
- Apple TV app: the software used to watch on a television, phone, tablet, computer, console, or browser.
- Apple TV 4K: Apple’s separate streaming box. It is an optional way to run the app and use supported viewing features such as Multiview.
What a paid subscriber can watch
The full-season package is designed to cover the championship from the first track activity of a race weekend through the Grand Prix and its replay window. A subscriber can expect:
- Every Grand Prix live and on demand.
- All practice sessions.
- Qualifying for every round.
- Sprint sessions during the designated Sprint weekends.
- Full-session replays and race replays.
- Highlights, interviews, press conferences, and related F1 programming.
- English and Spanish commentary options.
- Access to F1 TV and Sky Sports broadcast feeds when selecting F1 content in Apple TV.
Apple’s U.S. presentation is therefore more than a package of selected Sunday races. Fans who watch practice, compare qualifying laps, follow the Sprint format, or prefer to catch events later should receive the same broad championship access in one service.
The exact interface, available feed combinations, language options, and replay presentation can still depend on the device and the current version of the app. Treat the rights package as confirmed, but check the live Apple and Formula 1 viewing information before committing to a long-term setup.

The published U.S. price is $12.99 per month following a seven-day free trial. Apple describes Formula 1 as included with the Apple TV subscription rather than requiring a separate F1 sports tier.
That monthly price is the clearest budget figure for a fan who wants every session, but it should not be treated as a permanent guarantee. Subscription prices, trial eligibility, billing rules, and partner-platform terms can change. A household using a partner subscription may also see different billing or account-management options from someone subscribing directly through Apple.
Your realistic total budget may include:
- The Apple TV monthly subscription if you want the complete live package.
- Internet service capable of handling live video reliably.
- A compatible screen or streaming device if your existing television does not support the Apple TV app.
- Optional 4K/HDR equipment if you want the highest supported picture quality.
You do not automatically need an Apple TV 4K box, a new television, or a separate F1 TV subscription to access the U.S. championship coverage described in the deal.
Where you can watch without Apple hardware
Apple lists the Apple TV app on a broad range of devices. Depending on the model and software version, U.S. viewers can use:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- iPhone and iPad
- Mac
- Apple TV 4K
- Apple Vision Pro
- Compatible Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, and TCL smart televisions
- Roku devices
- Amazon Fire TV devices
- Chromecast with Google TV
- PlayStation and Xbox consoles
- A web browser at tv.apple.com
Apple also identifies distribution through Xfinity, DIRECTV, Roku Premium Subscriptions, and Prime Video subscriptions that add Apple TV. Availability and sign-in steps can vary by partner, so a viewer should confirm that the specific television model or subscription package supports the Apple TV service before race day.
If you want a dedicated living-room device rather than relying on a smart-TV app, Apple TV 4K is the natural Apple option. It is also one of the devices Apple identifies for supported Multiview use, but it is an upgrade choice rather than a requirement for watching F1.

What you need for 4K and HDR
Most viewers can watch through an existing HD or UHD television. A 4K/HDR setup is optional. For 4K/HDR viewing through Apple TV 4K, Apple says you need a compatible 4K/HDR television and an HDMI cable.
Apple recommends HDMI 2.0 or later for 4K HDR and says HDMI 2.1 enables the full feature set of the Apple TV 4K device. That makes an HDMI 2.1 cable a sensible choice for someone building a new 4K setup, but it does not mean every F1 viewer needs one. If your display is HD, or if you are content with the capabilities supported by your existing equipment, buying a new cable will not create a better rights package or unlock every Apple TV feature by itself.
Before buying hardware, check three things:
- Whether your television already has the Apple TV app.
- Whether your television supports the desired resolution and HDR format.
- Whether your current HDMI connection supports the picture and audio features you want.
Can you watch F1 for free?
Yes, but free access is limited. Apple has announced that all practice sessions will be available free in the Apple TV app, along with a selected number of race weekends. Apple’s viewing information also describes every practice session as available without a subscription.
That does not mean every Grand Prix will be free. The specific free-race schedule can change, so do not plan an entire season around an assumption that all 24 rounds will be available without payment. Check the current event listing before each weekend.
Yahoo Sports
Apple has partnered with Yahoo Sports to stream live practice and qualifying sessions in the United States. Practice uses the main Apple TV broadcast feed, according to Apple. Qualifying uses a mixed onboard presentation that switches between driver cameras, so it may feel different from the standard television broadcast.
Yahoo Sports can therefore be useful for a free sample of the weekend, but it is not the same as a guaranteed full-season replacement for the Apple TV package.
Tubi alternate broadcasts
Tubi is offering free live F1 alternate broadcasts for multiple races during the 2026 season. These are creator-led altcasts intended to broaden the sport’s appeal, particularly among younger and digitally focused viewers.
An altcast is not necessarily the standard international broadcast. It may emphasize personality, discussion, humor, or a different style of race explanation. Tubi’s offering should be viewed as an additional way into selected races, not as a substitute for the complete Apple TV package, every session, or the traditional presentation.
Other public viewing options
Apple has also announced that selected IMAX theaters will show live 2026 F1 races. For commercial venues such as bars and restaurants, EverPass is serving as the distribution route. A bar or restaurant viewer should ask the venue whether it has the appropriate commercial coverage rather than assuming that a normal consumer subscription permits public display.
What happens to F1 TV in the United States?
F1 TV remains important, but its U.S. role changes. Formula 1 says Apple, as the official U.S. broadcaster, will host F1 TV within the Apple TV subscription for U.S. fans.

That arrangement preserves the importance of F1 TV’s specialized viewing tools, which can include:
- Multiple camera angles
- Onboard cameras
- Team radio
- Live timing
- Data overlays
- UHD/HDR coverage where available
- Support-series content in markets and subscription products that include it
The practical distinction is that Apple TV is the U.S. destination for live championship coverage, while F1 TV remains associated with many of the sport’s data-rich and camera-heavy viewing features. Do not assume that every F1 TV feature, feed, archive, or support series works identically in every country or on every device.
Existing U.S. F1 TV subscribers should also avoid assuming that an old subscription automatically transfers, converts, or continues with unchanged functionality. The availability and account treatment should be checked against the current Formula 1 and Apple terms.
Multiview could be the biggest upgrade for serious fans
On supported hardware, Apple says Multiview can show up to four feeds simultaneously. Apple identifies Apple TV 4K, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro among the supported devices.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat could let a viewer combine the main broadcast with selections such as:
- An onboard camera
- Live timing or data
- Another race feed
- A different commentary or broadcast option
Multiview is most useful during qualifying and a close race, when switching constantly between the main feed, timing screens, and onboard cameras can otherwise become distracting. It is less important if you watch casually on a phone or use a single television feed.
“Up to four” is important wording. The maximum depends on supported hardware, the feeds offered for that event, app behavior, and the viewer’s connection. It should not be interpreted as a promise that every possible F1 camera, timing screen, and broadcast is available simultaneously at every session.
Why 2026 is more than a change of streaming app
Apple’s arrival coincides with one of Formula 1’s biggest technical resets in years. The 2026 regulations change the cars and power units at the same time that the U.S. broadcast arrangement changes.
The major technical themes include:
- A redesigned power unit with a substantially larger electrical contribution.
- Removal of the MGU-H.
- Fuel described by the FIA as 100% sustainable.
- Active aerodynamics.
- A lighter-car concept.
- A Manual Override system intended to provide an on-demand electrical-power advantage in certain situations.
The FIA says the regulations are intended to improve efficiency, encourage closer racing, and increase road relevance. Whether the racing actually becomes closer is something the season itself must establish; it should not be presented as a guaranteed sporting result.
The technical framework is also not completely frozen in practical terms. After pre-season testing and early-season feedback, officials approved 2026 amendments involving compression-ratio monitoring and continued evaluation of energy-management rules. That means explanations of the 2026 cars should distinguish between the regulations as introduced and the details that may continue to be refined.

The 2026 grid gives new viewers more storylines
The 2026 calendar contains 24 rounds, beginning with Australia on March 6–8 and ending in Abu Dhabi on December 4–6. In the schedule snapshot dated August 12, 2026, the Hungarian Grand Prix had been completed and the Dutch Grand Prix was scheduled for August 21–23. Those dates and the championship status are time-sensitive, so readers should confirm the current calendar before planning travel or viewing parties.
Two team developments also stand out:
- Audi enters the grid after taking over the former Sauber operation.
- Cadillac debuts as Formula 1’s 11th team, with Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas as its 2026 race drivers.
Cadillac initially uses Ferrari power units. General Motors’ own power unit is planned for a later phase currently associated with 2029, but that future timing should not be treated as an already-delivered 2026 feature.

For new fans, these changes provide useful context for the Apple-era launch: the broadcast transition is happening alongside new technical rules, a new manufacturer identity, an additional team, and an unusually full 24-round season.
Apple’s likely effect on the F1 viewing experience
Apple is presenting the agreement as more than a conventional rights handoff. Its launch materials emphasize several ways to make F1 easier to discover and more flexible to follow:
- Availability across Apple devices and a large number of third-party platforms.
- Free practice sessions and selected free race weekends.
- Yahoo Sports practice and qualifying streams.
- Tubi alternate broadcasts.
- Multiview and access to multiple types of F1 feeds.
- F1-related updates through Apple Sports.
- Integration points involving Apple News and Apple Maps.
Apple Sports is intended to provide live updates, leaderboards, standings, Lock Screen Live Activities, and an iPhone widget for qualifying, Sprint, and race sessions. These features may help someone follow a race weekend even when they cannot watch every session.
The likely advantage for established fans is convenience and feed choice: broadcast coverage, alternate angles, commentary options, replays, and data can be brought into one ecosystem. The likely advantage for newcomers is discoverability through free practice, selected free weekends, Yahoo Sports, Tubi, and broad device support. Those are reasonable implications of the announced distribution strategy, not a guarantee that every fan will prefer Apple’s interface or presentation.

A practical setup checklist for the first race
- Confirm your market. The exclusive deal described here is for the United States. Viewers elsewhere remain subject to their local F1 broadcaster and rights arrangement.
- Choose the subscription route. Decide between a direct Apple TV subscription and an eligible partner platform such as a supported television, Xfinity, DIRECTV, Roku Premium Subscription, or Prime Video subscription that adds Apple TV.
- Check the app before race weekend. Install or open Apple TV on your smart TV, streaming device, console, mobile device, or browser and confirm that the specific hardware is supported.
- Choose your language and feeds. English and Spanish commentary options are part of the announced package. Explore the available F1 TV, Sky Sports, onboard, and timing feeds before the session begins.
- Test the display. If using Apple TV 4K for 4K/HDR, confirm that the television and HDMI connection support the desired features. Do not buy a new screen solely because the F1 rights moved to Apple.
- Check the free schedule. If you are relying on free viewing, verify whether that particular practice or race weekend is included. The selection can change.
- Plan for live-event reliability. Use a stable connection, update the app and device software, and have the browser or app ready before the formation lap. These basic steps matter more than owning Apple hardware.
Important limitations and misunderstandings to avoid
It is not a worldwide Apple takeover
The agreement is U.S.-specific. It does not make Apple TV Formula 1’s global home, and a viewer in another country should not assume that a U.S. Apple TV subscription provides the same rights abroad.
Not every race is free
All practice sessions and selected race weekends are the confirmed free-access categories. The complete season, including every Grand Prix and all sessions, is the paid-subscription use case.
Apple hardware is not mandatory
The Apple TV app is available on many non-Apple televisions, streaming devices, game consoles, and the web. Apple TV 4K is a convenience and performance option, not an access requirement.
F1 TV details can differ by territory
The U.S. integration changes how fans reach F1 TV-related content, but specialized features and support-series access can vary by market, product, and platform. Check current terms instead of relying on an older F1 TV subscription description.

Do not rebroadcast the races without rights
A cloud service that loops or retransmits user-owned or rights-cleared video is not a lawful substitute for watching Apple’s F1 coverage. Publicly restreaming a race requires the necessary rights, and a normal consumer subscription should not be treated as permission to rebroadcast it.
Bottom line for U.S. F1 fans
Apple TV becomes the main U.S. destination for Formula 1 in 2026, with a five-year arrangement covering every practice session, qualifying session, Sprint, and Grand Prix live and on demand. The published price is $12.99 per month after a seven-day trial, and Apple hardware is optional.
Fans who want the complete season should plan around the Apple TV subscription. Casual viewers have more flexibility than the word exclusive might suggest: all practice sessions, selected race weekends, Yahoo Sports coverage, Tubi altcasts, IMAX screenings, and commercial venue broadcasts create several lower-commitment ways to follow the new era. The biggest change is not just where the races appear, but how the 2026 technical reset, new teams, multiple feeds, and device-focused features may change the way U.S. fans watch them.
