An Army AH-64 Apache’s delayed arrival at the 2026 Claybank Jamboree in Ozark, Alabama, coincided with a car show in a public parking lot. Rotor wash sent dirt and debris across staged vehicles. What happened at the Claybank Jamboree?
Task & Purpose reported on October 6, 2026, that the Apache was expected to arrive before the public, but weather delayed it. By the time it reached the event, car-show registration was wrapping up and vehicles were already staged in a public parking lot. Organizer Tyler Williams, founder of Wiregrass Carshows, said the helicopter landed nearer the parking area than planned.

Williams said previous Army helicopter appearances at events had involved static displays or landings before the car show. The Ozark Area Chamber of Commerce oversees the Jamboree and coordinates exhibit locations, according to Williams’s account in the report.

What was the reported impact on the cars?
Williams told Task & Purpose, “Almost all cars were impacted in some way.” He said open windows and hoods left interiors and exteriors caked with dirt and debris. This is the organizer’s description, not a vehicle-by-vehicle damage assessment. The coverage provides no confirmed number of affected cars, repair costs, or total claims.
The Army’s reported acknowledgment that debris may have damaged several vehicles is distinct from Williams’s broader description of cars being affected. The reports do not establish that every vehicle needed repairs or that surface dirt amounted to paint damage.

Task & Purpose reported that the Army said the delayed landing had approval from event organizers and the Dale County Sheriff’s Office. Williams said the landing was closer to the parking area than planned. Those reported facts do not, by themselves, establish whether anyone made an error or violated an agreement.
