Anthony Joshua was travelling in a black Lexus SUV, identified in preliminary reporting as registration KRD 850 HN. Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the vehicle lost control while overtaking and struck a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The agency attributed the crash to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, but that was a preliminary account—not a final forensic finding.
What car was Anthony Joshua travelling in?
Contemporaneous reports attributing details to the FRSC identified the vehicle as a black Lexus Jeep or SUV with registration KRD 850 HN. They do not establish its exact Lexus model. The other vehicle was described as a stationary red commercial truck. Premium Times and Channels Television reported the agency’s preliminary findings on 29 December 2025.
What caused the crash?
In its preliminary account, the FRSC said the Lexus was suspected of travelling above the prescribed speed limit, lost control while overtaking, and hit the stationary truck. The agency characterized excessive speed and wrongful overtaking as the primary causes. It stated that “the primary causes of the crash being excessive speed and wrongful overtaking constitute serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways,” as reported by Premium Times and Channels Television on 29 December 2025.
The cause has also been described differently in eyewitness reporting. The Associated Press reported that eyewitnesses said a tyre burst at high speed. That account does not establish that a tyre burst occurred or that it caused or contributed to the crash; the cited reports do not resolve the point. The FRSC’s preliminary attribution and the eyewitness account should therefore be kept distinct rather than treated as one confirmed explanation. Associated Press

Where and when did it happen?
The crash occurred on 29 December 2025 in the Makun/Sinoma area near Sagamu, Ogun State, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Reports said five adult men were involved: two died, one was injured, and two escaped unhurt. Joshua sustained minor injuries. Later AP reporting identified the two people who died as Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, friends and team members of Joshua.
What is known about the driver’s case?
On 2 January 2026, AP reported that driver Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode had been charged with four offences: dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence. The report said the case was adjourned to 20 January 2026 for trial. These are charges, not a finding of guilt, and the cited reporting does not establish a later case outcome. Associated Press
